A Quiet Passing Into The Night

With little note, this appeared in the Update this week: "GRAVESIDE service for Claude Caraway, 55" . Anyone who works around the courthouse square remembers Claude. He was the little guy that walked around (and I do mean walked around) the entire town handing out Messenger Updates every morning. I can't tell you the number of times he saw me and came walking across the street to hand me an Update. I always took one regardless of whether I had already read it or not.

Claude's taught me a lot. He taught us all, I think, that a person with limited resources can pass along rich blessings that can't be weighed or counted. He was the source of countless handshakes, smiles, and genuinely kind greetings. I'm a better person for having known Claude.

I knew claude for about 25 years,he always walked everywhere & I would usally stop & give him a ride, but for the last several years,I would just pass him by,thinking I was too busy,I kinda feel bad about it now.

I offered several times to give him a ride and he accepted several times. I only invited him to ride with me if his hands were empty. I knew if he had no more Updates, he was walking back to town.

Claude will be missed - the lesson of his life for me was that he treated everybody the same....

...a rare person these days!
