This is NOT news!
On January 19, 2003, the L.A. Times reported Saddam Housein had accepted the offer of exile and amnesty from an African nation. (Notice Saddam elected to crawl into a hole in Iraq rather than go to Africa)
On March 3, 2003, the Christian Science Monitor reported that the UAE had gone against their long standing resistance of interfering with the internal affairs of a neighboring country and offered exile and amnesty to Saddam Housein. (I have to believe that even if Saddam had accepted the UAE’s offerr he would have still ended up hiding in a hole in Iraq because his ego would NEVER have let him pack his bags and go to the United Arab Emirats and spend the remainder of his days shopping in their duty free mall.)
Leave it to a handful of half-baked news agencies to believe the world had forgotten someone else covered the story years ago.

The following quotes were taken from Bush's address to the nation on Monday, March 17, 2003.
"Saddam Hussein and his sons must leave Iraq within 48 hours..." "Their refusal to do so will result in military conflict, commenced at a time of our choosing."
Clearly "W" supported the prospect of Saddam and his sons going into exile. What do you bet that had something to do with Saddam either NOT accepting exile or failing to follow through with the deal cut with the United Arab Emirates!
Why is this huge?
annyon this huge because if we could have prevented our soliders form having to go to war and be killed and mamed and traumatized then we should have taken that route that why this is a big deal
If at all possible, we should have given this tyrant a way out. But cowboy George was pushing for a fight (at least a fight by some other soldiers - not by he himself).
So what if thousands of our soldiers are killed or maimed, George wanted to play "war president". We now have Saddam in prison and an interminable war. Quite a victory, huh?
Ahem!
Saddam Houssien was "given a way out." During the 3 months prior to the invasion of Iraq, countries such as Libya, Cuba, Bahrain, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt as well as the United Arab Emirates and an African nation offered Saddam exile. Bush, in a nationally televised speech told Saddam and his sons to take the deal, find a new country and get out of Iraq. Being an egomaniacal sociopath Saddam preferred being found cowering in a hole in Iraq rather than spare a single life of the people he had oppressed, murdered and terrorized for more than 2 decades.
Incidentally, many of the insurgents who are responsible for the majority of the civilian and coalition deaths in Iraq are Syrians and Saudis who have been displace from the "terror training camps" in Afghanistan due to the house cleaning being done in that country by coalition troops.
If you REALLY want to know how willing the US was to facilitate Saddam going into exile, do a Google search for "Saddam Houssein exile". If you want a real treat put in the word "Libya" with the search and you'll read where the US was willing to grant incentives to Libya if they would take Saddam. Make sure you check the URL and look for the year 2003 so you don't have to read the "new" news!
The "new" news regarding exile deals for Saddam is NOT a big deal because the offers were made and the US was MORE than willing to facilitate ANY deal that would have gotten Saddam and his sons out of Iraq.
Saddam REFUSED to go into EXILE!
