The Campaign For DA

Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • Someone sent me a comment yesterday asking if I could post the criminal history of a public figure. Sure. If it is true and newsworthy.
  • I record and watch NBC Nightly News almost every night when I get home. I'm a big fan of host Brian Williams and was really moved by a story last week when he reminisced about being in Iraq a decade ago when the helicopter he was in was hit by a small missile. So I was stunned last night when he admitted it didn't happen and, blamed it on the "fog of memory."  I want to believe he simply had a faulty memory, but that's hard to do. And Fox News went into full attack mode on the main stream media (as certainly will the comment section below).
  • An ironic twist on the day of the memorial service of the Pepper the dog: An off-duty Dallas police officer shot and killed a dog Wednesday afternoon moments before the memorial service began.
  • Jim Leavelle, the officer wearing that iconic white suit while escorting Lee Harvey Oswald at the moment of the shooting, was up at the offices of the Dallas Morning News yesterday. Picture. When I showed that to Mrs. LL, she asked, "Do you think anyone ever asks him to recreate that facial expression he had in that famous photo?"  Pause. Silence. And then I slowly turned my head towards her. (Girl ain't right.)
  • "Dallas mega-church pastor Ed Young is about to push your buttons again. The colorful and controversial minister is planning to baptize a copy of the book, Fifty Shades of Grey, this Sunday." Ed Young's antics may have him go down in history as the leader of worship's descent into Idiocracy. And they need to rename that church "The Place Which Worships Silly Bits."
  • A stat only Baylor fans will care about: Football team has gone 25-1 in last 26 home games, Men's Basketball is 17-1 in last 18 home games, and Women's Basketball is a shocking 88-2 in last home 90 games.
  • There was a Cessna plane crash in Argyle last night which caused the death of the pilot.  That was a pretty nice plane. The pilot, based upon my brief research which could be wrong, owned some company called "Dirt to Dough". But I can't find out much about it.
  • "President Obama met with American Muslim leaders this afternoon, according to the White House schedule, but so far the administration is unwilling to reveal who attended the meeting, which was closed to the press." You know why? Because in this day and time they would be harassed to no end by the nut cases out there. And I would fear for their safety.
  • "The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon spent eight whole minutes on a Saved By The Bell sketch featuring the original cast, almost 25 years after the NBC Saturday morning kid-com made its premiere." It was really funny even going so far as to do subtle jokes about  Elizabeth Berkley's racy Showgirls and Jessie's insane caffeine pill freakout

Brian Williams story and recant bothered you?
Well, how about the supposed front runner for the 2016 moonbat selection being totally refuted on her "Bosnian Sniper fire at the airfield as we got off the plane and had to run to our surburbans" story?

I know. As she is famous for saying--"Why/what does it matter anyway?"
Ya'll keep up the good work!

RTG: Why, so, serious?

Yeah, I've posted about Cheney's two DWIs and Bush's DWI plenty on here.

No, BagOfNothing will care, if only for spite.

as a hardened combat veteran I know what it's like to b.s. ocassionally, when the beer runs like water at VFW, the truth can get stretched a bit.

thing is, I always know when I'm full of it.

With that said, Brian Williams new damn well he was lying his ass off. I watch the guy every night, he does a great newscast. As much as I hate to say it, NBC should probably let him go.

We need to at least have the appearance of standards.

Muslim leaders at the white house?
Yep, bet your excuse is the "real" reason for the secrecy Barry, in this day of age for the most open executive administration in the history of the Republic.
They do make some goods meds now for delusional thought processes.

Anonymous said...

The Huffington Post also went into "full attack mode" in their readers comments.

Anonymous said...

Skippy, Could you please post the criminal record of Rep. Alcee Hastings(D) from Florida?

Anonymous said...

I seem to remember Hillary saying that she and Chelsea had to duck and run for cover from sniper fire after landing in Iraq. The army pilot of the plane that flew her when she was a senator at the time totally busted her along with other witnesses. But unlike Brian Williams, she never apologized. Ambassador Chris Stevens was unavailable for comment.

Brian William's "admission" was mitigated by additional "misleading" statements.

Oh no! Barry's whole world is falling apart!

Brian Williams is an Obama butt-kisser who helped get Obama elected.

So why am I not surprised to learn this morning that he never had any integrity anyway!?!

Brian Williams exaggerated the truth? Look, I'll put up with that when I watch Foxnews, but REAL news outlets need to have some integrity. He needs to step down.

Brian Williams has lost all credibilty with me. You dont lie about stuff like that.
we have been lied to so much i'm sceptical of everyone.

I seem to remember Hillary saying that she was named after Sir Edmond Hillary. Only one problem. Hillary was born to years before Edmond Hillary became famous by becoming the first person to climb Mt. Everest. Expect another apology in FOR-NEVER!

Seem like the news media and Obama is spending more time on the Jordanian victim than on the American who got his head chopped off. Obama never invited leaders of the Christian community to the White House.

If Mr. William's memory is that foggy, he should not be reporting the news.

Anonymous said...

This does it. I'm switching to FOX News. All they did was give away secret troop movements on air live during the invasion of Iraq.

What's a little treason compared to lying about getting shot at? I'm outraged.

Katy Anders said...

10:33 (the second one): I think there's something to your draft theory. We can mostly play armchair generals right now.

Of course, we DO all have skin in the game. I've been in the waiting room at the VA and talked to these guys. They're going to be with us a long time, and there are definitely repercussions here at home for these overseas excursions.

But I don't think it FEELS like there are to most people.

The draft would definitely make it feel like we all have skin in the game. (Not that I'm encouraging a draft!)

Anonymous said...

Regardless of the reason, flat out lie or foggy memory, a man in his position should not make such a mistake. He is on five nights a week to inform a nation through reporting the facts (or should be anyway). He has the ability to influence a nation and doing what he did is irresponsible to say the least. Likable or not............Brian needs to go. AND, as a Fox News viewer, I would say the very same thing about any of their reporters as well. NBC already has a credibility problem (remember when they rigged up the Chevy/GMC trucks to explode?) Just another example of sloppy journalism. Also, if I had the time, I'd write about the time I saved a lady from a burning car............wait, the more I think about it, that is what I once witnessed others doing while driving down the highway.

I am a Christian Republican dog lover. I am mortified about our recent dog funeral.
1. A church is where we go to worship, not honor dogs.
2. How much money did the government spend to send paid officers in police vehicles with taxpayer funded gasoline?
3. This whole deal feels like pandering to the sound bite folks.

wordkyle said...

You can bet that Brian Williams didn't count on the public reaction he's received. Those on the left are used to lying with impunity. When they get caught, they mumble some reply and expect the world to move on. That they should be held responsible for their lies never crosses their mind. (And yes, you can use Obama's "you can keep your doctor" as a prime example.)

Anonymous said...

Those on the right are used to lying with impunity. When they get caught, they mumble some reply about "they did it too!" and expect the world to move on.

Rage, et al:

With relatives in more than one branch of the service, a response seems compulsory to "Hardened Combat Veteran". After spending time listening to my family, few "Hardened Combat Veterans" will talk publicly like that. And when I showed my Lt. Col. nephew the story in the "Index" about the Alvord guy who had been in all four branches of the military, he rolled his eyes and said this guy was more concerned about defending his income and retirement than the country. Lt. Col. nephew described him as one of those few who was "tuggin' the tit". Lt. Col. nephew says he hates to make judgments like that, but when he sees someone who has moved from branch to branch to branch, that is a good indicator that there is something out of place. Also, one of the Wise County Veterans told me Sgt. Alvord separated himself from the Wise County Veterans Group for "behavior unbecoming of a WCVG member." His words, not mine. My perception is "Hardened Combat Veteran" may be one in the same.

I am a Christian Republican dog lover. I am ecstatic that a man that would shoot a dog and shoot at police officers was given immediate corporal punishment the same fashion that was given the dog. He wasn't allowed to sit on death row for twenty years to be treated humanely and then given an injection that would allow him to peacefully go to sleep to meet his maker. A thenthitive liberal weenie is concerned about the cost of taxpayer funded gasoline to send officers to a dogs funeral but they don't care what the cost is to house a criminal for life.

Brian Williams thinks David Letterman is awesome. Not the younger, edgy, funny Letterman, but the cranky, rich, democrat, one-foot-in-the-grave Letterman. That pretty much tells me what I need to know about the guy.

Ed Young ought to be ashamed of himself. I get moral outrage over Fifty Shades being seen by some as sort of a gateway excuse to infidelity. I don't necessarily agree with the position, but I get it. But taking the sanctity of baptism and using it as a publicity stunt is shamefully bad. To prove the point that it is, in fact, nothing more than a publicity stunt, note that Pastor, if you can call him that, Young hasn't got a track record for baptizing Hustler, Penthouse or other skin mags. But, we've got a movie due to premier in a week or so that is going to do couple hundred million bucks at the box office, and a lot of folks are excited to see on the big screen, so now he's going to baptize the book. Marvelous. Simply marvelous. Makes Jimmy Swaggart look good by comparison.

Rage, A twenty dollar injection of phenobarbitol is more expensive than housing a criminal for life? Take off your mask so you can see the real world. Do they have bouncy balls on your short bus for you to play with? I never said life was cheaper than execution. I said the gasoline that it took to send the officers to the dogs memorial was cheaper than the cost to house a criminal for life. But what really matters is if you believe your own lies like Brian Williams does, then that's all that really matters.

I used to know a vet who lied about his age, like many young men during the time, and joined the service. He did his 3 years (I think), was out about a year, when he was instructed to report for service with another branch of the military. All these years, he had a mess on his hands, because of 2 different services, and 2 different birthdates. When it came time to retire, those different birthdates came back to haunt him once more. He was injured in combat in Korea, along with several others, and he adamantly refused the Purple Heart. They were all angry because they made it out, when others didn't. At 20 or 25 years old, you don't think ahead to realize what a difference that Purple Heart would have made for his widow either, as it can't be awarded now. RIP Friend

Your Lt.Col nephew is about as stupid as you are.
I personally know "Sgt. Alvord" and know the story behind his various services.
Secondly, he did not leave the WCVG because of any "behavior unbecoming of a WCVG member." If your Lt.Col nephew said that, then he is a liar.
You can ask any member of the WCVG about him and the reason he doesn't attend. He did not "leave" the group and, in fact, is a life member in good standing.
Idiots like you spewing venom about things you "heard" 2nd and 3rd hand is typical of ignorant people and ignorant Lt.Col's.
