Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • I'm back at it this week but I'll wrap up with some post Spring Break thoughts.
  • After driving across the South, I'm now a big fan of the GPS. Yes, I love technology.
  • Vicksburg National Military Park Thoughts: (1) Fantastic place and thanks to whoever it was that suggested it, (2) I took a crash course in the history of it before I went through it, and I'm glad I did, (3) I was whipping everyone in the car with "fun facts", (4) and I also spent a lot of time saying "be reverent" to the jokesters in the car, (5) the fact that many people use the park for jogging is a little unnerving, (6) coming up upon the USS Cairo was a treat, (6) no matter how hard I tried to envision what that battle(s) was like,  I know I wasn't close.
  • Alabama might want to work on its roads a little bit.
  • Based upon the billboards, personal injury law is alive and well in the South.
  • I was stunned by how few confederate flags there were but how many azaleas covered the landscape.
  • Texas Monthly tweeted last night to check its site tomorrow "for an amazing personal essay by Wise County's asst DA [about] the death penalty." I'm really confused by that but will post a link as soon as I find one.
  • I'll also post a link for Liberally Lean March Madness 2013 in a bit. There may be just one prize this year -- last year I got beaten down by getting about seven different gift certificates sent out. Ain't nobody got time for that.
  • Stolen from Gordon Keith: The headline in the opinion section of the Dallas Morning News yesterday that read, "Should we put robots on trial?"
  • "Orange Beach looks to restrict obscene merchandise after mayor 'sickened' by T-shirt logos." The mayor hates some T-shirts sold during Spring Break. I don't know what the government can do about it (and I'm not sure they should have the right to do anything about it, but I agree with his sentiment. Classless.
  • I watched a little bit of the CPAC convention late at night while on vacation. Donald Trump. Sarah Palin. Rick Perry. Ted Cruz. Man, they work themselves up into a frenzy, and they are not helping their cause.
  • Saddest story that you may not have heard: The Seton Hill's lacrosse team bus was in a crash last week killing the bus driver and the coach who was pregnant.
  • Crazy plane crash yesterday in South Bend. One of the dead is Steve Davis who led OU as quarterback to two national championships in the 1970s.

Well, it was mostly just an outright siege. There were some flare ups, but mostly the North just surrounded Vicksburg and waited until they'd eaten all the shoe leather and rats they could stand to eat. Nothing too sexy, but majorly important to the outcome of the war.

You want a huge vainglorious shit storm of a bayonet charge, try to imagine Gettysburg, which occurred in the days just before Vicksburg fell. That's where the South lost the war, no matter what those morons who think it was Antietam believe. And it was Lee's fault, too. They don't want to believe that, either, but that's just because they get their civil war history from comic books and what their racist retarded family says about the war.

And of course, we all know the war was about slavery. Just thought I'd leave that there.

"Should we put robots on trial?"

There's an app for that, right?

They might have a point, though. Just look at the accused's (inter)face. That's a natural born-on-the-assembly-line criminal right there

From a commenter at WaPost:

"I heard that there is a recently passed GOP sponsored law that makes homeowners who happen to be in the path of a crashing private jet responsible of all damages to that jet. The law sounds fair and reasonable to me. After all, the person in that plane was a "job creator" and "money hoarder" and undoubtedly doing something very important with their tax deduction jet like flying their daughter to camp. They need all the help we can give them, and the homeowners are probably middle or lower middle class leeches of society, probably on medicare and social security and sucking our economy dry. We need to encourage the use of private jets and fuel consumption and increase the tax advantages of owning a private jet, so lets enlarge the loophole and let's make those homeowners pay.
(Someone told me this was a statement overheard at a coffee shop table where John Boner and Paul Ryandscotch were sitting.)"

On purpose this time, TF.

Glad to see your panties are untwisted at least a little bit, though.

Word:

If their "cause" is illustrated by the things that they say in public, and their supporters are illustrated by the people that show up at their conference then they did not help themselves at all. If their intent was to say crazy stuff to stir up the crazy people that show up and have a different "cause" that they are hiding, then I guess the joke is on us. But I think that most people will decide what to think about these guys based on what they say in public and what the people around them say in public. If that is OK, then the birther movement lives on, slavery was a big help to black people, women really are still property, etc etc etc.

The story of the pregnant coach is heartbreaking. The loss of the mom and the baby defies understanding as to the grief felt by this family. I'm not saying the following to be politically provocative at all but just looking for some understanding. When the unborn baby is lost in an accident, it is heartbreaking but when the unborn baby is aborted, it's just a choice. I'll never understand how the 2 events can be separated. Does the woman that aborts the baby still feel the same sense of loss? Does the father? Can this be discussed without name-calling?

I didn't know that Rage, Wordkyle and Triple Fake all worked at Sea World.

Anonymous said...

Word dummy, let me suggest that their "cause" is to get their types elected and enact their programs. As BG indicated, they're working in the wrong direction.

Rage has spoken...praise be to Rage, oh he of bloated ego.

I love how you throw around well known and accepted facts and act like these ideas are original.

I love how you throw around well known and accepted facts and act like these ideas are original.

Not at all. The things I say are all patently obvious and unoriginal.

I think you have me confused with Wordkyle, who is part of the Republican rebranding effort. Because he claims to have origingal ideas, and that they don't really believe those old things people blame them for--you know, things like privatizing everything from Social Security to warfare, and self-deportation. But we know, those aren't really what Republicans want. That's not their rell message--even if their candidates are talking about it non-stop.

"I heard that there is a recently passed Democrat sponsored law that makes the actual private jets who happen to crash into the homes, responsible of all damages to those homes. The law sounds fair and reasonable to me. After all, the plane was a "tool of evil" and a "burden on the environment" and undoubtedly in the hands of a person doing something very unimportant like flying an entourage to Camp David for a skeet shooting photo op. These planes may seem like they need all the help we can give them, as the homeowners are probably middle or lower middle class folks who are employed by companies who build, service and maintenance these planes, but their jobs are unimportant in the big picture and they can always sign up for food stamps and welfare. We need to discourage the use of private jets and fuel consumption and get these evil planes out of the hands of our citizens and create plane free zones, and find better ways to prevent the random crasher from obtaining planes.”

(Someone told me this was a statement overheard at a S&M shop where Nancy Pelosi and Harry ReidLDS were sitting.)"

9:57 -

I know two now-middle-aged women who each chose to have an abortion when they were younger. Both of them still feel a sense of loss and regret, but also discussed how they felt they had no choices at the time (due to economics, family issues, and other factors). I can't speak to how the fathers feel, and my experience certainly is limited in scope, but I know that there are at least some women who suffer from that loss. I find it hard to believe that very many women would just move forward with absolutely no impact on their lives.

I would love to see the pro-life movement shift their focus from demonizing those who find themselves in the situation of considering abortion and instead reach out with compassion and help find options/alternatives such as adoption and increased accessibility to birth control. From a pro-life standpoint, doesn't it make sense that the greater the number of pregnancies prevented, the greater the number of abortions prevented?

As I've said before, Liberals don't have a clue what Conservatives actually believe or want. Illustrated by the comments above. Easier to believe the caricatures they've been told to believe. Easier to make snarky remarks that hide how ill-informed they are.

I'll need to see some proof- Wordkyle

When did you start running the show around here? Why don't you go back to your own massively popular blog? Oh, wait... nobody reads yours. Coinkidink?

No, I have perpetually twisted panties.
And since you seem to know better than I do what my words actually mean, then interpret that however you want

and 9:59 -
I get mentioned in the same sentence with the big boys? YAY!
But it should be Rage, Triple Fake, WordKyle. I'm the middle-of-the-road meat in that sammitch.
The SeaWorld reference is kinda out of left field, though. Or am I missing something?
If I splashed any ambergris on you, feel free to use that to your advantage

I'm curious about the hospital too. What does it say on page 5A? That hospital is glamorous in and out. If they had just renovated an old building, they could've helped a lot of people.

Triple Fake took the bait, so I am guessing that actually puts you on the bottom bun, permitting we are not talking open face sammitches. You all picked the same day to jump the Orka, or maybe Shark Week just arrived early this year.

WK, As I've said before, Liberals don't have a clue what Conservatives actually believe or want. So are you telling us what we heard from the CPAC convention is what conservatives believe? Moving more to the fringe.

Anonymous said...

As I've said before, Liberals don't have a clue what Conservatives actually believe or want.

Especially when we listen to them on one or more occasion. Romney flip-flopped more than Kerry, and that's no small feat. Ryan voted for funds to be disbursed to his district, saying (in writing!) that they were essential to the creation of jobs in his district. Then he goes on the campaign trail against the stimulus! His proposed 'reforms' were also virtually identical to Obama's, but he called Obama's threat to our security?

Quit lying, Wordkyle. You can't escape what they said in writing and on tape.

Damn Rage, I call you out and you blame Wordkyle

I'd say you should go back and read what I wrote and try to understand it, but we both know that'll never happen.

Rage steps in it again. The Civil War was about states rights. You're welcome

Here's but a snippet of the Texas Articles of Secession for you:

"That in this free government all white men are and of right ought to be entitled to equal civil and political rights; that the servitude of the African race, as existing in these States, is mutually beneficial to both bond and free, and is abundantly authorized and justified by the experience of mankind, and the revealed will of the Almighty Creator, as recognized by all Christian nations; while the destruction of the existing relations between the two races, as advocated by our sectional enemies, would bring inevitable calamities upon both and desolation upon the fifteen slave-holding States. By the secession of six of the slave-holding States, and the certainty that others will speedily do likewise, Texas has no alternative but to remain in an isolated connection with the North, or unite her destinies with the South."

Overall slavery takes up the majority of the content. You'll even find exortations against the attacks upon "Southern rights," but not once will you see them complain about states' rights.

Do me a favor and get at least one degree that has something to do with this topic. Maybe then you can talk to me about it with some authority. Make sure it's not an on line degree, please, or one from Tech, if they're even still offering four year degrees there.

I will never understand the gays complaining about wanting to get married when they already can.

Nobody denies marriage to mentally challenged and handicap people.

Rage...My initial response was to your first comment. You speak down to people, acting as if you have new and vital information the lowly minions of Wise County have never heard before. The you change the conversation to Wordkyle so you can take your shots at him. What did he have to do with anything? My comprehension is fine, thank you. When confronted, even mildly confronted, you deflect the conversation elsewhere. It would probably be wise to hire you as an attorney but I sure would need a shower afterwords. Nah, I think I would have to take my chances with an attorney with a little more intellectual integrity.

1:34, you still don't get it. Quit crying.

12 Easy steps to get the Republican Party back in the White House:

1) Admit that you lost twice to a black man.

2) Admit that the majority of people that voted for the black man are not on welfare, stupid or crazy.

3) . . . .

Why bother with the rest of the list? They can't get past steps one and two.

And Wordkyle - We can only guess at what Conservaties believe in by listening to the people that they put behind the microphone.

Rage, When Wordkyle presents facts you call him a liar, so whenever you present facts that makes you just like him. You stepped in it again. 2:55, The majority of voters that voted for Obammy are low information voters. Watch Jimmy Kimmel sometime and you'll see what I mean.

I watched the little puppy video but can't read anymore. I am totally addicted to the old 6 seasons of Lost.

255 - That's fine. If that's the only way you get your information, you're resources will naturally be limited. You're saying that you don't really know what Conservatives believe, right?

"After driving across the South, I'm now a big fan of the GPS. Yes, I love technology"

In the same manner that calculators turned us math-stupid, your GPS will debilitate your navigation skills. I don't use either, preferring to program my brain instead. I'll be leaps and bounds ahead of you if it all ever crashes. And if it doesn't, it still seems a good idea to keep one's mind sharp.

Rage, you must have attended a school with a zero tolerance policy for fighting. You throw out comments knowing you will never have to defend them or yourself. You are smart ass little psuedo-intellectual and it is fun to slap you around (verbally) from time to time. A comment directed to you is met with liar, quit crying or my personal favorite, we are too dumb to grasp the meaning what you post. Thanks for proving my point. If you insist that the only reason Romney lost is that there are so many stupid people that voted for Obama, you will never be able to fix the real problems that the party has.
