Turnover in Decatur ISD at an all time high!

Unbelievable!

These two cute new DISD boardmembers must be amazed at some of the incompetence they have inherited. Ladies find out what changed since we were a recognized district and focused on athletics and not fences and signs find out why everyone is leaving or even if that is true? ladies don't fall for change is good cause there was a day when we all smiled, enjoyed work, and were recognized and exemplary! How in the world did things go so crazy so fast?

Those poor souls in Decatur have suffered through some strange board decisions. Can't blame them for bailing.

Anonymous said...

Maybe that's good? IMO they seemed to be stuck in the past and opposed to change.

I know let's buy a new JumboTron for every school so we can spell it out for you! Oh what we already have one at every entrance and 2 in the gym well my bad. We need Afro Turf it's for the kids

School changes all the time. Every time there is a new superintendent, there is a change. For some reason they think they have the solution and they bring in a new program and it is worked on for 3 to 5 years and they leave and in comes another one with a new program. The Circle of Schools!

The problem is we are losing our best, not the other group the board listens to and tries to keep happy! We are losing our best, excellent teachers that put kids first! I guess we don't want their kind around here!

9:16, they didn't bail. They lost the election.

Mr Kotter couldn't fix DISD. That's why people send their kids to Northwest.

as a parent, i am sick of the data that this district use on my children. I hear things such as "their reading fluency is below average", AR tests, and what are these nanos that my child had to use for reading assessments. I say start with firing the person in charge of all these bullshit assessments and data collecting and hire more teachers. I hope this last week of summer moves slowly. I am at a boiling point and may be forced to make some tough decisions at the end of the school year. Unlike the management of the schools, I put my kids first.

That dead horse is starting to smell.

2:30....the person in charge is your govt.

My kids go to BMS. I'm not paying $40 for my kid to have an iPad. I think the concept is ludicrous and want my student to learn without signing a contract saying my 12 yo won't destroy a $500 iPad. I don't even let them play with the one at the house much less carry it around.

Tell you what, Mr Bland, take the $500 dollars and split it between the math, science, history, art teacher and coaches.
Thanks.

As a teacher that left the district, I will say my reasons were directly related to a principal the holds no worth in the teachers who teach only to the teachers that bow to his/her favor and do little in the classroom. Good teachers are leaving because the administration is failing to do their part (with teachers and students) and work only toward the "numbers" needed to look good. If there was a higher level of trust and communication things would naturally improve. Instead teachers are made to feel expendable instead of valued.
As parents I urge you to visit your child's campus and meet with administrators and teachers to experience the climate for yourselves. There needs to be some shake up or everything will continue as is and this is only to the detriment of the students.

5:22, how sad for your child. Go visit a classroom where children are taught using technology. The children thrive in this type of learning environment. Be grateful that your child is given this opportunity. Or don't let them have an iPad and hinder their learning.

A board members responsibility is to keep the teachers happy. Not much else matters!

The article about the motocross rider is not newsworthy.People who do stupid s### ought be on dumbest stunts or jackas shows. The people who own the track built so other idiots would have a(safe) place to practice after their son got killed.horsehockey!!

Jerry Howard man.....where ya be when we need ya guy????????????????

Im getting tired of hearing the government is the problem. The school district is not mandated by the State to force these AR assessments down the throat of our kids. THAT IS THE DISTRICTS CHOICE! It seems that this statistical game is running good teachers off to other districts. Also, if the person who indicated that the government is the problem, and you are one that runs this district, do you accept this from the government and just draw your check? Or are you doing something about it? The excuse that the govt. is the problem is old..crap or get off the pot!

You cannot be forced to pay a $40 fee for an ipad nor can it be held against your children because they do not have one no matter what Mr. Bland says. If you don't believe me, I strongly suggest you conact TEA in Austin and find out what the actual rules are at your earliest convenience. I cannot believe that all the children at BMS can afford the $40 fee! We are living in tough economic times!

6:25 Progressives spoiled the Teacher pool.

Lots of complaning about schools, teachers and administrators. Problem is that less than 10% of parents take action. Administrations know the. Boards know this. That's why nothing seems to change.

Decatur is failing in a huge way....they need to start fresh....Melinda Reeves??????

"A board members responsibility is to keep the teachers happy. Not much else matters!"

Really?? I am hoping this is your idea of a joke.

9:08, OH HELL NO! She is the one who cut a lot of the Ag/ Vocational programs. The kids who didnt go to college in Decatur are the ones paying cash for their Dodge Dually's with welders on the back, and fabricating all fences and ornamental iron, all while making some serious cash doing it.

Did the "Mrs LL strenuously objects" direction ever get disclosed?

So, did the hahn guy compete in his little red bull deal this weekend?

I doubt either of the people named are future builders. I tend to think they led us to this point.

1:42,
That's Barry's schtick. To leave hanging.

He never told us whether she thought the Colleps sentence was too light or too heavy.
I'm guessing she thought it was light since he didn't comment.

But, she does have a husband who spends time combing the interweb for daily bikini pics......so maybe she thoughts colleps should have got off Scot free.

No pun intended.

That is what is wrong in Decatur!
The board members seem more interested in happy teachers than in student learning!

Seem such!

The BISD kids are given laptops and now IPads but the teachers are given very little training. Teachers are held responsible for test scores and content and expected to learn how to integrate technology on their own time. They even offer training during the 30 minute lunch break.

Results: teachers teach what they have to and the kids have a new toy to play games and socialize.

What's up with the two charged with neglect on the child drowning.

9:08 NO THAT IS NOT THE ANSWER!

The good news for Decatur ISD was last May's election was a step in the right direction. We can maintain the momentum come next May!

YOU parents wake up it is not the teachers or school board's problem!
It is the parent that the teachers have problems with--- because the parents don't try to take a little time with their precious little Johnny and do some teaching at home
Like spend time trying to help him.
Lessons and manners! teachers have problems with discipline because it isn't done at home!

Can you show pics of these 2 cute DISD chicks? You have my curiosity piqued.

Anonymous said...

The DISD Facebook page shows 31 new faces at DISD for the year.
Not all are replacements as some occupy newly creted positions.

That number is no where near the exodus a few years back at the HS alone.

My teacher friends tell me that the exodus of the three administrators was no great loss for the district.

However, those same friends hold little hope their replacements will be any better considering quality is not a criteria 10K-Rod includes in his search

Good to see the losers arrested in the drowning of the 5 yr. old from Paradise.

Now, if they would arrest all the losers who let their kids die in a hot car justice would be served.

Bet you only have to pay the $40 for the iPad in Bport because you are white. Hispanics are catered to and get everything for free. If you are white, you are the minority in Bport schools. But don't hold your breath waiting to get any benefits from being a minority and white!

disd will not move in the right direction until 4 things happen good teachers are rewarded and treated with the respect they deserve by all administrators. administrators learn to respect all teachers and punish kids equally across the board and look for ways to make sure that the programs like skills usa and ag are top priority since they help teach skills the students can use to make money wile getting a college education and #4 parents need to make sure that you punish your children when they are doing bad instead of doing nothing and hoping your child will straighten up

Anonymous said...

Wow, lots of parents bashing everyone but themselves. I have been a teacher in DISD. From others I have been in, it's pretty good. But the parents think they are not accountable. However, THEY ARE! I have heard them gripe that their kids don't know math tables. Well, did they work with them at home? It's taught in the classroom, but it takes more than that.
Parents, wake up. Do your part!!!

1:42 Yes, Barry said Mrs LL objected to the 5 yrs...she thought it was too much.

Anonymous said...

DISD doesnt care about you unless you have a business on the sqaure or a Reuinion cabin.

Anonymous said...

Not true, 7:59! Actually if your resume has 76234 on it, you can forget about getting a job in this school district.

Divide and conquer still works. Communities that stick together are dangerous.

Anonymous said...

Yes, i'm not sure why the principals are not wanting to hire in their community and are not questioned about this popular practice. Some of the school board members also think this is the new way of thinking.
I am just saying "karma" pretty much bites you in the butt! Heaven forbid that any of these principals or school board members have any sons or daughters, nieces, nephews that want to work at DISD after they finish college because hiring only from outside does not include the above. Oh I did hear that one principal just hired her niece as an aide which I'm sure is just going to be a stepping stone for her. (not right)
