Future Headline "Decatur Board Ends CSCOPE: Return to old days where teaches are free to select what they teach"

Anonymous said...

Maybe the petition signers that can't get to the gas station as easily as before would prefer that 380 be returned to a dirt road, or cattle trail.

II missed out on the " love lessons" that the soup said teachers used to teach. I wanna know about love lessons. Does that include manipulatives? Get that class back on the schedule! It's coed, right ?

What? No information about the car that drove into the Bridgeport Hooters (aka Brandy's) yesterday????

What was the highway number of 380 back in the 1960's. Thanks.

It's all about 3's at the home of RG3 and his Heisman.

Big Monday on ESPN.... PJ3 leads the 3rd ranked Baylor Bears who have 3 wins in conference and going for their 3rd road win.

It's a Baylor World

The super said that teachers can't teach "love lessons" anymore? WTH?! I must have been absent on that day!!! I was robbed! Did those lessons include manipulatives?

380 used to be Hwy 24.

These parents may be well meaning, but they sure sound like a bunch of spoiled brats. They have no clue what it takes to run a school. They want school to be all cuddles and smiles. It's true, their kids probably aren't learning the basics because they aren't spending the time at home it takes to reinforce what was learned in class.
Teachers used to have the time to do lessons by rote, simple and pure memorization. That's been killed by "progressive" education years ago. Now, teachers have to make sure kids can pass a test at the end of the year. CScope is nothing more than a guideline, a tool to help teachers stay in sequence. I don't like a scripted lesson, but I have seen some of the Cscope lessons and there are many creative ideas and games. Yes, there are mistakes in it, spelling, grammar, but taken at face value, it's a GUIDELINE.
Good teachers can take it and adapt it and make it their own. Good teachers can still be creative and make learning fun. What hurts this process is the interfering of helicopter parents, whining and crying that their children can't be silly or that they must be quiet at certain times. Life is like that!!!
Parents, you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. Be supportive, go to school, have the dads volunteer to be WATCHdogs, pat the teachers on the back, make your kids mind, do their homework without complaint, READ, READ, READ to your kids. Go over their math facts, ask leading questions, and don't leave all the education, nad life lessons to school.

Truth Headline
Parents of Dumb Kids disapprove of curriculum"

Truth article
"While above average students roll through the current curriculum with no problem, the average and below average students may struggle a bit. It may actually require that the parents of those kids actually make their dummy try harder"

Who pulls this puppets strings?

3:09 MUST be an administrator or an administrator's spouse. It is not written by a teacher that is REQUIRED to teach Cscope!

Anonymous said...

The board will follow the wishes of the teaches and drop CSCOPE

Anonymous said...

1:09, who is whining about their child that "can't be silly" or having to sit still? There wasn't anything about that in the newspaper story.

Anonymous said...

3:09 obviously didn't read the Messenger article or attend the meeting. That comment is just stupid and reeks of insecurity.

309--Now Im pissed. I have been a watch dog and have patted teachers on the back. I also go to work and when I get home, Im practicing math and reading way more than I should. I feel like I run a home school at my home in the evenings. It appears that my kids are bouncing around in math. One day its counting money another its telling time, then simple addition and subtraction. Then there is a unit math test. There is NO time telling, counting coins or numeric addition and subtraction. The test is nothing but word problem? She never does word problems throughout the course work, just on the unit test? These kids dont have a chance and are killing your "quotas". Shouldnt you master something before you move to something else? I am sick of my children being a pawn for your appraisals!!!!Dont tell me Im spoiled when Im busting my ass just trying to keep my head above water. Also why do we pay for a Curriculum Director when it comes from CSCOPE?? There is something bigger here than spoiled angry parents. I realize that the state has a part in this, and hopefulling DISD will be the epicenter for change no only in our schools but for the whole State. Im done listening to the BS from the administrators at my school. Its time for the school board to feel the pressure and listen to the tax payors. If not, there is enough outrage to clean house.

348--why didnt you and your brilliant child show up at the town hall meeting. I would have loved to see the look on your childs face after I knocked the piss out you!

Anonymous said...

Can no longer teach "love lessons." Hmmmm... is that directed at a certain middle school teacher?
I'm pretty sick of seeing adminstration doing everything possible to RUN OFF those teachers who are SENIORS in the profession!
Don't think that isn't happening, because it is. Our best teachers, experienced teachers, are being run out of the profession. Sickening!

Anonymous said...

I am 3:09--my husband has NO ties to DISD other than to pay taxes. I am a former teacher and I have seen Cscope lessons. A good teacher can teach with only a chalkboard and chalk anywhere, anytime. A good teacher can take guidelines and make them her own. It is simply a tool that most teachers didn't start out with in their career. Neither did we have computers, white boards, or any of the technology that teachers are blessed with today. We also didn't have to contend with standardized testing.
I can see why teachers don't like Cscope and I'm not defending it. I'm defending teachers and yes, administrators who are just trying to do their best in a field were the rules have changed.

10:52 ya make me laugh out loud!

Go back to work.

Anonymous said...

Only Mrs. Reeves can save us now!

Anonymous said...

10"52. You are wrong. There is time-telling, counting money, and all those things. I substitute all over the district and see those things over and over again. They do the word problems. Your teachers are teaching the basics along with many other things. It's just a lot more than we had to learn when we were their ages.

Anonymous said...

No I am not wrong. They aren't teaching anything. Not that it is their fault, but the teachers are just passing out worksheets. I went to the town hall and heard someone present some arguments that went way over the head of our superintendent. I find it strange that this meeting was about curriculum and the curriculum director was allowed to address the group. that tells me that they have no faith in the director and the cscope system. The argument that it is a problem @ the state level is no longer valid. The turn out for the meeting was another eye opener. This problem is recognized by many people. Now let's fix it

Anonymous said...

Trust the board to resolve this issue in the manner they have responded to ever other challenge they have faced.

Anonymous said...

9:27--go as fast as you can to another district if you think your children aren't learning. You are an insult to all the teachers in this district. They don't need you. These teachers are teaching and doing a great job. No, I'm not a teacher. I'm a college-educated grandparent who sees that his grandchildren are coming home everyday with new knowledge. And love their teachers, have fun, etc.

Anonymous said...

1057---if that is the case lets accept that teachers having to work 10-14 hours a day as the norm and let the board give this man another 10,000 raise.

Anonymous said...

The Supt should be given another raise. Cut a couple teachers if that is what it takes but we need to stop the bleeding and not lose any more good leaders.

Turf or Bust!

I will trade CSCOPE for new turf
