Dog Days #2

ABC - On Saturday, Florida Highway Patrol troopers say that a drunk driver fleeing the scene of a prior accident struck and killed a 53-year-old Sarasota woman while she was walking her dog. The driver of the vehicle, Blake C. Talman, 22, lost control of his Nissan Altima and hit Donna L. Chen and her dog Barney on a city sidewalk. Chen was killed in the accident, and Talman is facing DUI manslaughter charges while being held on $121,000 bail. The accident took place on State Road, and Barney was so terrified that he fled the scene, made his way to the beach, and swam for the horizon. Most would expect that to be the tragic end to an already sorrowful tale, but fate had other plans for Barney. A local fisherman in his kayak happened upon the waterlogged dog just as he was pulling far away from shore – likely too far to make it back.

Man, this has to stop before I want to adopt every dog in the country.

Not much is more satisfying than helping one of God's sweet creatures who cannot help themselves. Bless this fella who saved Barney!!!

That's a bizarre story, although I suppose it's a testament to how omnipresent cameras are in society.

Poor dog...

Why wouldn't you adopt the dogs? You already adopt every drunk as your personal crusade against DWI enforcement. I suppose you'll find someway to brush off the lady's death...

4:17 Mature response. He's right. As much as I dig BG and this blog he's got way too much animosity towards cops busting drunks.

Man, I hate to stir the pot on this, but if a police officer had taken stronger action to stop the fleeing suspect, this innocent woman would be alive.

Unfortunately, things like this have to be said to balance our "rights" and "responsibilities".

I'm right there with ya BG! As for the dog... That man was in the right place at the right time and did you notice that his front leg looked like it was bent backwards, the dogs that is. Sad but happy ending for that poor fellow!

So I fell for the "adopt a poor dog before we look them" bit.
I called them, you know, to maybe get a post Christmas puppy. Free?
Um..... no.
1. Adoption fee
2. Contract to spay
3. Contract for shots
4. Microchip
All in all it is over $100 to adopt a poor dog so it doesn't die.
For that money I will go buy a purebred.

How much does it cost to euthenize them again?

I've got beagles that'll run rabbits all day long for $100.

Go ahead and shoot the mutts.

An animal shelter is a waste of time and resources. If everyone would just shoot all stray dogs we would save thousands of dollars.

But some people need to create a "necessity" to make themselves feel better.
They things like create Facebook pages of pics of dogs to get attention for themselves.

It's like educating a retard (no offense new fairview). It doesn't really help but it makes you feel better.

I shoot stray dogs anyway. No collar no chance

9:32 nailed it. But there aren't enough real men left in this p#ssified excuse of a country to just do the smart thing any more. Feel-good liberalism has flushed a once great country right down history's toilet.

The Muslims got next. They're mean enough to make it work for the next 200 years. We sold our mojo so the women and gays could feel good.

Thanks a lot, butt-Heads

now you have to be scratching your heads and wondering who in the hell is posting these comments.

7:36 there is no way you can adopt a purebred for $100.00..cheep idiot.

I think shooting a stray dog is okay in the country. they are better off dead.

9:32 and other sorry a$$ redneck idiots on this blog. Do you not "get it" that some of those dogs are LOST and are people's pets? If you have ever had any pet that you even remotely cared about, wouldn't you like it if folks HELPED you get your pet back? God!!! It's morons like YOU ALL who make me and so many others sick! Actually aren't most rednecks like you the same as "stray dogs?" Maybe folks in society should do us a favor and rid us of our "people strays!"
You're even below the compliment of being called a moron!
