First Baptist Of Dallas Will Not Put Up With Secular Stores!! Calls 'Em Out

First Baptist Church of Dallas sends word that this morning on KCBI-FM (90.9), Robert Jeffress announced the launch of a website --Grinch Alert -- "dedicated to showcasing businesses that do not show outward signs of supporting Christmas." In other words: He's declaring war on those who've declared war on Christmas. . . . . more.

Jesus was a big fan of shaming people. Especially at the mall. Look it up.

Idiots. this is America. We have a right to choose religion or not. I am a christain, but choose not to go to church just because of the insane attitudes preachers have. God helps me make my decisions, even where I want to shop, no church is going to tell me what to do. I bet God is saying, oh come on boys give it a rest, my people don't need that kind of help.

So sad that a Church is stooping to this.,

I realize this post is another example of "baiting" but I think Jesus words in Matthew 5 could be considered as causing shame for a lot of us.

21"You have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT MURDER' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.'

22"But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the supreme court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell.

23"Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you,

24leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.

25"Make friends quickly with your opponent at law while you are with him on the way, so that your opponent may not hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the officer, and you be thrown into prison.

26"Truly I say to you, you will not come out of there until you have paid up the last cent.

27"You have heard that it was said, YOU SHALL NOT COMMIT ADULTERY';

28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman (with lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

29"If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell.

30"If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell.

31"It was said, 'WHOEVER SENDS HIS WIFE AWAY, LET HIM GIVE HER A CERTIFICATE OF DIVORCE';

32but I say to you that everyone who divorces his wife, except for the reason of unchastity, makes her commit adultery; and whoever marries a divorced woman commits adultery.

33"Again, you have heard that the ancients were told, 'YOU SHALL NOT MAKE FALSE VOWS, BUT SHALL FULFILL YOUR VOWS TO THE LORD.'

34"But I say to you, make no oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God,

35or by the earth, for it is the footstool of His feet, or by Jerusalem, for it is THE CITY OF THE GREAT KING.

36"Nor shall you make an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.

37"But let your statement be, 'Yes, yes' or 'No, no'; anything beyond these is of evil.

38"You have heard that it was said, 'AN EYE FOR AN EYE, AND A TOOTH FOR A TOOTH.'

39"But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

40"If anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, let him have your coat also.

41"Whoever forces you to go one mile, go with him two.

42"Give to him who asks of you, and do not turn away from him who wants to borrow from you.

43"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'

44"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

45so that you may be sons of your Father who is in heaven; for He causes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous.

46"For if you love those who love you, what reward do you have? Do not even the tax collectors do the same?

47"If you greet only your brothers, what more are you doing than others? Do not even the Gentiles do the same?

48"Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

Jesus is the reason for Xmas.
However, in this country there are lots of other religions that celebrate there "holiday" at the same time. (If you study all religions there is a holiday celebrated during this time) To be technical most religious scholars believe Jesus was born in April, but the holiday was switch to winter to "compete" with other pagan holidays.....Anyway business's are not declaring war on Xmas but welcoming all shoppers of all religious orientation. They are being kind, smart and inclusive. Hanakah is in it's 7th day and those consumers shop for their children on behave of their religion too.

I realize this post is just baiting to cause an argument between Christians and others but I would question your comment about "shame". I urge you to read Matthew 5:21-48 and see if you come to the same conclusion. I feel shame when I read it.

Just a couple of examples:

v27 You have heard that it was said, 'You shall not commit adultery';

28but I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lust for her has already committed
adultery with her in his heart.

OR:43"You have heard that it was said, 'YOU SHALL LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOR and hate your enemy.'

44"But I say to you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you,

Or: Therefore you are to be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect.

What's interesting is that the comments to the story you linked to are almost exact replicas of the ones we had here last week.

How brazen of those Christians to push back against the non-Christmasization of Christmas.

I think this whole saga over the "war on Christmas" is just ridiculous. I am a Christian, and nothing makes me happier than setting up my Christmas tree every year, going to the New Year's Eve service, and giving gifts to those in need. It's what I love about this time of year!

But this country welcomes people of all religions; it's A FOUNDING PRINCIPAL. And if a business doesn't want to alienate valuable Jewish or Muslim customers, for example, that's their business. Who cares?

This time of year, Christians should work extra hard to be more like Jesus, and that means being inclusive of all kinds of people. Those business owners who choose to not put up trees or Nativities aren't "anti-Christmas," they are just trying to be welcoming to all kinds of people.

How come Americans forget that at some point or another, almost all of us have ancestors who came from somewhere else, with a whole different set of beliefs? It's what makes America so awesome. And it means that we celebrate different things over the holidays. Be glad that we live somewhere that you have the freedom to celebrate whatever you want in your own home, and quit worrying about public places. Geez.

I am beginning to think this whole "melting-pot" thing wasn't such a good idea!

11:19 and 1:37 I say amen to both of you!

12:29 Shut the hell up.

WordKyle: I disagree. By joining such a stupid battle the Christians who feel the need to "push back" are just are petty as those they're fighting against.
I believe in GOD, I love Christmas because of the spirit and the fun, not because it's one prophet's imaginary birthday. I am among the many who feel that a belief in GOD doesn't require the worship of a particular prophet, but includes ALL religions who worship the Supreme Being. Once again, Christians are so EXclusive they believe it's all about them, but it's NOT.

Anonymous said...

Once again the Baptists prove what idiots and unforgiving exclusionists that denomination is. God hates denominations; I'm sure of it. It's not necessary to link up to a doctrine and go to "church" to worship/believe in God.

Anonymous said...

1:37--you exemplify Christianity! You are loving everyone, which is the message Jesus gave us. FBC only loves FBC. I have personal experience with this group and it ain't pretty.
Thanks for your post. It reminds of the Methodists--Open minds, open hearts, open doors.
Of course there are some who aren't open, but as a whole, they are more accepting everyone.

Goober said...

Perhaps I over looked, but no seems ready to address the fact that christmas originated from a pagan ritual worshiping the sun at the time of the Roman harvest. The early religious leaders decidied to adopt the festival to entice the pagan revelers to join in their "christian" beliefs and activities. It only has religious implications because man said it did, certainly not based on any biblical teachings or reference. Instead of making a big deal out of one day or season, how abaout we worship Christ each day as the scriptures direct?

Anonymous said...

Goober: I didn't overlook your comment, but I agree totally. The Christian bunch like to pretend they have the exclusionary rights to Christmas, but they are so wrong. They just stole the holiday from the pagans because they couldn't fight them, so decided to join 'em. It's IGNORANCE which allows them to pretend it's only their holiday.

2:00 I agree. I have stopped attending church entirely because I don't believe it's a requirement for a belief in God, but if I went back, it could only be to a Methodist church. They're the only ones who understand that God isn't in the business of excluding people.

Add Jefferies to the idiot preacher concerned about the athiest signs on four Ft Worth busses, even tho he had the same opportunity to rent the signs for a Christian message,

The evangelicals love to use government (that they often criticize) to advance their cause or at least allow them to be lazy about it. Not to mention force their religious beliefs on everyone. Abortion, gay issues, Muslim churches.

And the most lazy of their preachers are not above extortion blackmail to get their way.

What is a belief system if it is not voluntary?

Anonymous said...

You do not have to attend any Church to believe/have faith in Christ. We attend church as an act of obidence. Christans tend to get a bad reputation when they stand up for their faith and what we feel is right/wrong. Sometimes it does come off way wrong to those who are looking at it from the outside.

In any christian based religion we all have as many faults/sins as the next man. That's because we live in a fallen world. So yes, we are all suppose to have halos and wings and live a very perfect life, but we all fall short of that. I think it is something that all of us struggle with on a daily basis.

It is our holiday so it is our business. If you are not a Christian why are you celebrating Christmas?

Anonymous said...

I don't get it. Why would Jeffers say, "I WANTED to do something positive to encourage businesses to acknowledge Christmas and not bow to the strident voices of a minority who object to the holiday.

He should be thinking about folks supporting other folks in making a living for heaven's sake. We are in a bad economy. Who cares whether the businesses push the sacred or the secular? That won't change the way Christians feel about the season. Sheesh.

What's next? Slamming Walmart for selling Christmas ornaments that are not Christian in nature?

Just don't get those pushy Baptists. And don't want to.

Nothing can transform secularists into biblical scholars as quickly as Christians supporting seventeen centuries of tradition.

Businesses are moving to "Happy Holidays" and away from "Merry Christmas" because of the threats of lawsuits and the potential consequences of "offending" a tiny portion of the population. This change hardly raises an eyebrow. Yet when some of the vast majority are offended at the change and dare to speak up, it becomes an issue.

203 & 201 - You seem to feel as though you're exposing some big secret. You're not. Many Christmas practices (including celebrating it on December 25) have been incorporated into Christian tradition without being strictly based on Christian theology.

"land in a nest of pit vipers on the side of the road?.....only if you are driving in Wise County. If you are driving in Gawd's County, you'll land in a nest of bunny rabbits and butterflies, 2:53PM.

House of York said...

OMG 2:57, if "Christmas" is your holiday and no one else is allowed to enjoy it in any way they believe it to be, I sure hope YOU don't celebrate other holiday's during the year that aren't Christian because they are not "yours".

Anonymous said...

2:48 It's only obedience IF you believe the bible, written by men to control the masses. I don't believe God requires that nor cares whether you attend a church or not. That's the societal control portion, not necessarily God's desire. Think for yourself...don't believe everything they preach. They wanted everyone to go to church to be controlled, brainwashed, and give their $$$ to support it, hence wrote it as a desire of God....big lie.

2:57 You are just an idiot. It's NOT 'your' holiday, dude. Read the comments here...Christians stole it from the pagan. We all enjoy the holiday, the time with family, the lights, the warmth. You don't have to be into the fake (i.e. not REAL) b'day of Jesus to enjoy and celebrate with family and friends. Get your head out.

2:48 to 3:26 It is by faith that we live. So yes we do believe what the Bible says. \

Weather Dallas Baptist is right or wrong in their stradegy to make this "campain" is opinion. I (am Baptist)personally believe it is a wrong way to go about it.

Actions such as these are sure no way for us to show our faith and showing our ultimate goal which is to lead others to Christ.

Which is why I don't put Christian bumperstickers on my car....that way when you cut me off in traffic I can blow my horn and flip you off. Not because I'm bad, but because I am human and a sinner.

Christians love to support their beliefs by the bible, which means nothing if you don't accept the bible as the 'be all and end all' to life. You can't prove something by citing the very item upon which your belief is founded to prove a point. All texts were written by men, and as you so aptly pointed out, men aren't perfect and have hidden agendas. I believe there's some basic truth to the bible, he koran, the Tao, and all other texts which have been held sacred throughout the millenia. christians are the new kids on the block and think they have all the answers....laughable.

You folks who pick Christians apart are sad beings. Time will tell that. If you don't like the Christmas tree, then call it what you like, but you will never ever change the fact that it is a CHRISTMAS tree to Christians. This holiday in the USA was not set for pagans...... and who cares if Christians adopted some of their symbols...... it is a holiday set aside for Christmas. . . if you don't believe it is a celebration of Christ's birth, then feel free to excuse yourself from the holiday!
Christians NEED to stand our ground! If not, then we are cowards to what we believe!

651 - The religion of "the new kids on the block" was in existence 600 years before Islam and the Koran. As for the rest of your comment, you are correct in criticizing circular logic as a debate tool. It's a bad practice when anyone does it, including Christians. However, it's also a bad practice to laugh at things you're not sure about.

I continue to be amazed by the whole "WAR ON CHRISTMAS!!!!!!" campaign that Churches put out there each year.

As a Christian, I would much rather they go out and spend their energies celebrating Easter and Ressurection Sunday rather than being the Christmas police. For Christians, Easter is what its all about, IMHO.

Anywho... I'll keep it Germane to FBC Dallas. If they are so worried about shaming others who don't measure up to their measure of Christmasanity... then how about they ponder what Jesus would think about that multimillion dollar fountain they have planned in front of their building.

Don't get me wrong, I want Churches to honor Him. And we should want our best for Him, including nice churches. But a multi million dollar fountain? Methinks the $$$ could be better used elsewhere....
