Random Friday Morning Thoughts

  • Yeah, it's cute, but the Evian "skating babies" commercial doesn't jazz me like it does everyone else. I'm just not a fan of the overly tricked up computer generated video.
  • Twice this week, I've driven by down a street in the morning only to see a guy walk out of his house, shirtless, and fire up a cigarette.
  • I wonder if other cultures get as freaked out as the U.S. does over "sex crimes."
  • I don't think I've ever seen a "victim impact statement" delivered to a defendant after a trial but while the jury was still in the jury box. At least not in Wise County.
  • And that legal right of the victim is simply odd: It can only occur after a sentence has been handed down.
  • But the defendant yesterday will certainly remember it. Heck, I will.
  • The photo of Obama checking out the girl yesterday was pretty funny. Headline winner may go here but our local Fox 4 gave it a good effort.
  • College football fans only: ESPN's Big 12 Blog has been counting down to the 25 biggest moments in the conference's history. Good stuff. The only one left to be disclosed is #1, but it has to be UT's Vince Young's scramble on 4th down to win the National Championship.
  • The capital murder indictment of Steven York by a Wise County Grand Jury this week kind of flew under the radar. The next big announcement is whether the DA's office will seek the death penalty -- something that hasn't occurred in almost 30 years.
  • I think a new Harry Potter movie is coming out. I've never seen any of them nor do I have any desire to.
  • Running of the Bulls update: Bulls 1, Humans 0
  • Our Congress woman, Kay Granger, visited a Wise County ranch a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday she was hospitalized due to dehydration. Coincidence?
  • Movie critic Gary Gogill called the new Bruno movie the most shocking R rated movie he's ever seen. That's saying something.
  • 14 of 17 dogs at the Jacksboro animal shelter were euthanized. It's like a puppy holocaust.
  • [Post about Steve McNair's killer failing field sobriety tests deleted because even I was bored by it.]
  • What temperature do you keep your home thermostat at? Me: 77 in the evening. 74 at night.

The photo implies that Obama was checking out the Brazilian girl (17yo!) Butt, can't fault him for that...Brazilian girls are famous for the bunda
And some are using the video footage to acquit him...nah, he was sneakin' a peek

The gal in today's pic looks like a little dynamo

Did you know that they kill the bulls in bull fights? I thought they just danced around with the bull like the cartoons, but the first (and only) time I saw a bull fight I couldn't believe that they killed the bull.

So the bull that killed this 27 year old, will be dead in a few days too...

77? Holy smokes- I would suffocate. 69 and 72 baby.

yeah 8:45 it's one of those circle of life kind of things

RE thermostat:

82 daytime (no one is home) and 76 to 78 at night (depending on degree of hot flashes).

Anonymous said...

Come on Barry, thermostat at 77 day and 74 at night? I thought you were responsible and trying to save the planet. You have to support Al Gore and your party with your actions.

Seriously, each of us can help our own power consumption if you want to. If you have east and west facing windows you need to shut these solar heaters down this time of the year. Block the heat/light before it gets in. All those fancy windows are pretty much a scam. What good is raising the R value from 1 to 2 or even to 3? That is little help. Cheap solar screens that prevent the light impacting the glass are your best investment. Here is a little elementary school science project: Hang a thermometer inside your house in front of a east or west window while the sun is striking it near perpendicular, and take a reading. The room temperature away from the window may be 75 degrees but in proximity to the solar heater (window) you will see high readings. Now block the light on the outside of the window to prevent penetration and watch the inside temperature drop.

Some people install the mirrored films to reflect the sun. This is good in the summer but in the winter you will miss a lot of free solar heat.

Kay Granger - to dumb to drink water, but running our country. No wonder we're screwed.

Good gosh - today's pic is either bad photography or a composite. Legs are kinda short for the body........

...and what's with the eyes?

Anonymous said...

COOL, at 73 any time I'm in the house, down to 72 if I come in hot!

Anonymous said...

8:45, of COURSE they kill the bull. That's why bullfights are considered brutal!

* Yes! Cultures that value their women and children "get as freaked out as the U.S. does over 'sex crimes.'"

* Obama ogling a young woman's booty is Obama's idea of being a class act.

* Kay Granger has been a dried up political stooge for years and should have been institutionalized years ago.

* I know Star Kinder and she would NEVER leave animals unattended in any conditions much less puppies in killer heat. Star puts in as much time taking care of shelter animals on her "days off" as she does during "work hours."

* The house a/c is set at 70 in the summer when someone is in the house. When we are gone for more than 3 hours the temp is set at 78 and scheduled to go back to 70 within 30 minutes of arrival at the house. The house temp stays a constant 60 degrees in the winter.

Why is it "odd" that the victim can only give their impact statement after the sentencing? Seems like that's sensible since most victim's statements are hate-filled and aimed at wringing sympathy out of everyone present? If we gave the vics a chance to spew out their venom prior to sentencing, wouldn't that potentially influence the sentence? I find the impact statements stupid and ridiculous, but if they help the person to heal, I guess it's worth the emotional blathering. I would be extremely ashamed and disappointed at a daughter who damned someone to hell, and would think she needed some major counseling and possibly a bit of Christian teaching!

They did not get the death penalty when James Bennett was shot and killed so why do you think a auto accident will get the death penalty? Is that any more than a shooting in cold blood 30 years ago should get?

Anonymous said...

Look at me 77 and 74, must be nice to have all that fancy lawyer money and all your conditioned air.

Been to Spain and did the whole running of the bulls thing. I also went to the bullfights too in the evening. Believe me, the score does not end up being Bulls 1, Humans 0.

Well, Barry, (Mr. Liberal), I see you are doing some very heavy handed censoring here on your blog. The last two comments I have made just somehow haven't shown up. I think it strange how you put up topics for our comments, yet you only show those you think "appropriate." And you call yourself a liberal - - a fighter for the rights? You're more controlling than any conservative I've ever met. Hypocrit! Let's just see if this comment appears on your blog.

Lots of pain and anger to work through before reaching the ability to forgive. I've NEVER trusted those who seem to easily "forgive" those who have done them horrific wrong-there's a big difference in true "forgivness" and burying the rage in denial. The rage is legitimate and deserved.

Alvord has a lot to be happy about! Coach Chaney decided to leave and our good fortune is Iraan's bad luck! Thanks to the sentencing we now have 1 less pervert in town. Now when will we see Mr. Brazile in court?

Anonymous said...

0948 I am pretty sure the case in Bennett's suspect was his age. The guy guy did get life in prison though.

And that was not an auto "accident" it was an intentional act and last time I checks a 2000 pound car can kill you just as easily as a 22 round.

This summer, I decided to be as energy efficient as possible, since we have a big house. I put power strips in everywhere possible, so I could totally turn off TVs, DVDs, satellite stuff, computer stuff, and totally turned off the AC in the big part of the house when we weren't in there.

Got the electric bill for month before last and it was $62...I was thrilled......the previous year, it was over $200 for the same time period.........then my son who lives on the place told me he saw a Wise County truck out at the power pole and they were checking the meter......seems according to their records, we had a suspicious drop in power usage, so they changed the meter......my hubby called them, told them what we had been doing to save energy, and got a different story than the one my son got from the lineman.......got this month's electric bill and it was almost $200 again.......go figure.

We are the last Wise County Coop customer on the line in Montague County, our well across the road is on Cooke County Coop........our house power sucks. We get surges and brownouts all the time, and I have expensive battery backups on all the computers and important electronics to protect them. Our neighbors up the road on Cooke County are doing fine when we are sitting here without power......I wish we had Cooke County Coop power at the house.

I did not get Borat at all, so I am not planning to see Bruno. Does that make me a curmudgeon? Oh well. Guess that is why the largest portion of my DVD library revolves around John Wayne and Robert Mitchum. Ahhh, Hatari and Home from the Hill - a true double feature.

Random Thought--
Let's do a roll back. Pick a time and we will go back in history and do away with all the government laws and regulations that have been put in place since that point. Yep, those from the city, state and federal governments. We will just wipe them from the books and have a do-over. Now the question is what date should we pick?

Anonymous said...

I keep my thermostat set to 80 all the time. If I cut it down lower it makes it harder to adjust to the heat outside.

77 inside today at 1 pm, 102 on my porch. We are entering an ice age. Of the record high temperatures for the 50 States, 17 highs were set after WWII, the others (a majority) were set prior to the war. 1936 was a very hot year. Seymour, Texas reached 120 on August 12, 1936. Global warming is a fraud.

Anonymous said...

Hey 3:31 we can hope can't we? I honestly don't know what Iraan can see in him to want him as an AD but oh well. I would tell Chaney that he will be moving to West Texas and they do take their football very seriously out that way and he might want to brush up on his rules and coaching abilities.

"The photo of Obama checking out the girl yesterday was pretty funny." This reminds me of the post from the other day of a woman giving an excuse for being fat: "I can tell you why women become "fatter" after marriage If you men had any idea how women have to deal with "hitters" constantly! Even after marriage they don't care if you have a ring, they just care if you look good) they come sniffin' around looking for bootie." I guess that what Obama is doing in the photo staring at a girl young enough to be his daughter, sniffin' around for bootie. You liberals can find some low life ones. Reminds me of Clinton.

Yep, bad reporting. Iraan, yes, AD - not hardly. Get the facts right before you put them in the update. Who you been talking to? THE ALVORD INQUIRER?

Anonymous said...

Video proves President Obama being a gentleman, not gawking at girl.

This clearly demonstrates how easily led right-wing nuts are. If it something you want to be true, you swallow hook, line and sinker. Never giving it any critical thought.

This non-thinking mentality brought us 8 yrs of GW Bush, wars, torture, economic disaster, Katrina/Fema disaster, etc.
