Fire!

Emailer Kasie writes: Van on fire on Hwy 114 between Boyd and Rhome, has hwy closed!!! Yeah, it was in pink. (Click to enlarge.) With an update from emailer Leland: "Noticed you already had a post on this. Here’s some video from my phone (poor quality). From what I’ve heard, these folks were 3 miles from home when they noticed smoke coming out the rear A/C vents. By the time they were able to stop and unload, which included a man in a wheel chair, flames were coming out the vents. It was surprising how fast the entire van was engulfed in flames. Thank God every one made it out." Video now uploaded to youtube:

Wow, people take the burn ban lifted seriously. Let's burn some vehicles and stuff like... that building behind would be cool to torch.

Well, this is turning out to be a sucky day. At my house, first, a dead kitten killed by a dropped dog, which said dog will be on his way to the animal shelter shortly, second, snake in back yard trying to get into house, because most all of our cats have already been killed by that damned dog, then this van fire. OMG, when will it end.

they was just waitin fer the burn ban to be lifted.

It would have been funny if someone would have run up to that van and said,"My Baby!" rushed in, pulled out a flaming baby and then punted it out into the field and said," Ta Da" And then "Psych!" because it wasn't a real baby, that would have been funny and I would have laughed.

12:17 I think you meant the BURN VAN had been lifted.

Things like this wouldn't get out of hand if more people would spend just a little on a fire extinguisher and keep it handy.

My initial reaction on looking at the picture was also concern for the seeming indifference of the people in the vehicles. But what would you expect them to do when the van is a raging inferno? And we don't know what took place immediately before the picture was taken. Probably best that they get out of the way, because the emergency vehicles are a-coming.
I'm just sayin'

At least they won't have far to go to replace it. Looks like it's a sellers' market
There could finally be some truth in advertising if the car dealer had a fire sale, although I think he just does consignment

Nice "F" bomb of the video.

Sorry, 1:21PM, I just got back from the shelter, and left a nice donation to cover feed and the cost of putting the little bastard down, unless someone just wants a cow shasin', cat killin' dog. Sorry, but I didn't have any extra antifreeze, rat poison or crushed light bulbs to sneak into a nice clump of ground hamburger meat, or any ammo, because I'm a pacifist and only shoot rabid skunks, you ass.

So you don't mind if the dog dies, just so long as somebody else has blood on their hands (figuratively, of course). Plus, you get to assuage your guilt by throwing money at the problem

Hey, 3:06PM, No, I don't mind if the dog dies. I had to hustle him out before my son shot him this morning - hell, I would have saved gas and the donation bucks, and fed some buzzards.

Maybe I'll go get him, give 'em another donation and bring him over to your house if you'd like! Hope you don't have any cats or cows. Or small children. He tends to snarl at them. I guess that was why he was dropped here to begin with. He's been neutered, has all his shots, and was fed well. Just like we do to all the dropped dogs, unless they turn in to killing machines.

Let me know your decision - I think he probably has ten days or so. The scumbag dumper humans are the ones that should be shot in the first place.

I still have two more - a beagle/basset mix (Danny) and a boxer (Butch), that I wouldn't give up for the world. They got dumped as a pair, and I foolishly thought they perhaps had gotten lost during a varmint hunt or something. I put signs up and ads all that stuff. And that doesn't count the collie drop that recently got hit by an oil tanker truck that we loved dearly as well.

Honestly, instead of jacking with me about this, what would you do, other than just be another ass, verbally?

3:41, and anyone that takes dogs to shelters or dumps them out somewhere: Really, if you care about animals, why put this dog in a shelter? He obviously needs to be killed, especially if he has the slightest chance of being a threat to children. Perhaps his demeanor is what got him dropped in the first place. The shelter sure doesn't need him. Most are overcrowded already, even with some dogs that would make good pets. The kindest thing to do to him would be to put him down yourself or get the vet to do it.

Rubbernecking at its finest. Let's pull out the cell phone, update the blog and take a video.

Wait, there are people in the there?!?! Well, God got them out. I couldn't have helped.

Chill 3:41. You're getting all worked up just because people are pointing out that you could have handled the problem just as easily. No one has claimed that putting down the dog was the wrong thing to do. But really, what's the difference between a rabid skunk that you would have no problem shooting and a dangerous dog? Just relax a little.....have you ever thought about taking up yoga, or just having a good stiff drink?

Ping, 4:14PM, you are spot on. Yep, Bear, the dog that is now in the shelter, falls under the "he needed killin' law" that secretly exists in Texas. Oh, and even though he was neutered, he always red rocketed......funny sometimes, but mostly embarrassing, especially when old people came to visit.

However, we chose the "limited optimist" reaction.

WOW, I said to myself as I was driving him to the shelter: someone might actually want a cat killin', cow chasin', kid snarlin' chow mix dog.

And yes, I am fairly sure that's why he was dropped here in the first place.

I can only hope some weird person will see him and adopt him.

And to re-address the situation in the first place, I wouldn't have the snakes hanging around if the cats hadn't been killed by said bad dog.

I remember when we had a herd of Siamese mix cats, about seven of 'em...they were like ninjas, and traveled in a pack, it was so cool to watch them move around the place.....and, back then, we had no mice, and hence to and therefore, no snakes, but sadly, said dump dogs (over the years) killed 'em or chased them all for the most part.

To make it up to all of you, do we get credit for going back to the same shelter and taking some kitties to replace our cat stock? That's our current plan, and the shelter is way cool with that.

Well, I thought the doggie drama was the worst I could experience today, until a nice, respectable lady from town came to visit, and told me about the family that lives about 3 miles away, who are fighting about oil well royalty money, and sadly, they are, for the most part, potential mental patients, and all the grandkids and hangers on are creating great havoc. I am fascinated about the effect greed has on people - disgusting, but fascinating.

I just about lost it when she told me about the maggots in the fridge, and the 35 quarts of milk, some of which were dated over a year ago, that were still there, along with all the rotten Parade brand hot dogs.......and that made me think that I was feeling vaklempt about a f^cking dog.....shiate.......I need to go help that old lady and her sister, and even if I do, and only make a little difference, for a little while, I WILL DO IT.

Which makes me wonder exactly how many of you Wiseguys, or neocons would or could even bring yourselves to become involved in such a mess.

Me and that nice lady already agreed we would go in totally "gloved and masked up" because the stink is unbearable. Oh, and we will bring lots of bleach.

Wish us well, you heartless Wise County Assholes.
