Were those participants housed in the same encampment as the opening ceremony folk?

When I watch all the Chinese people perform, I wonder how many who were killed because they were second daughters would be out there performing if they weren't dead.

Looking forward to the closing ceremonies tonight. Opening C's were absolutely incredible.

On a side note, can you start a little section about the screw up most of the new principals in town are doing? Especially the Intermediate and Rann new administrations.

The gentleman at intermediate has an abundant of mistakes on what most people would call basic leadership/management decisions.

The principal at Rann has managed to make a lot of enemies and also prove her incompetence. Even today she has managed to drop the ball. Sending out new directions for drop-off and pick-up the day before school. This should have been taken care of while we were there for meet the teacher.

I actually watched some of the closing ceremonies and had a "duh" moment.

So I'm watching all those drummers and the sparkly women and the guys riding those glowing snowflake looking thingys around and I think to myself... "where in the hell do they get all these people to do this"?

Then I remember: it's China you moron.

They got 'em down at the compound.

I can't imagine the massive unemployment that is looming ahead for all those involved with the construction of the stadiums & infrastructure and the production of the ceremonies.

5:37 Unfortunately you are correct on both counts and especially the one at intermediate. That school is full of talented hard-working teachers. He has yet to recognize how well it was run by the previous leadership.

IMO a lot of the problems are a very poor reflection of the overall leadership above the principals.

The principal at intermediate has proven to be unqualified for the position he holds.

Sad but true.

I was actually bummed out at last nights closing ceremonies. The opening ceremonies were abolutely awesome. I was wondering how they would top that. But to me they didn't. I was dissapointed.

917 you just don't get it, that's the beauty of communism you see, those workers will now go back to making inferior shit to sell to wal-mart to resell to us..so don't feel sorry for them..feel sorry for us..!!

Those of you who drone on with false information about China and the Chinese are doomed to wonder what hit you later in the century when they dominate the world's economy even more than the do today. But don’t let facts get in the way of the Limbaughish drivel you so eagerly sop up.

As for the closing ceremony - I liked the opening better. But I can only wonder if there could be anymore fireworks left in the entire world?

1033 - When referring to "Limbaughish drivel," are you referring to China's forced abortion, forced sterilization and infanticide policies? Perhaps we should embrace such harsh but effective methods to alleviate some of America's ills. We want to emulate successful models, don't we?

On the other hand, China's social security system is in worse trouble than ours, with an aging population and fewer workers supporting more dependents. They have to deal with Tibet and Taiwan, with surging inflation and the effects -- both physical and political -- of heavy-duty pollution.

You may be right about its potential, but China also has its share of problems.

What I'd like to see is a suspension of China for the next several Olympics, due to their rampant and blatant cheating on the gymnast's ages. Why a blanket suspension? Because the cheating is government instigated, endorsed, encouraged, and supported (much like the East German swim team situation). However, I doubt anyone will have the cajones to do it at the IOC level. They'll probably do a sham investigation and use the government-issued documents as "proof" of no violations. (Let's see, the government is the one involved with the cheating, and we'll take the government's documents as proof that they weren't?)

wordkyle still professes knowledge of China's population control methods - unfortunately he's just wrong - again. OK, kyle, demonstrate the specific policies you believe to be "official" without just regurgitating Rush's babble.
