I missed that the story appeared on Fox News, but today the D Magazine Blog points out that it has been learned that the whole thing was more than just fake: it was a marketing ploy. And I learned a new phrase: "Link Bait." Thought you could get 2 to 20 for that.

Idiots like this may accomplish what the mainstream media would like to accomplish, but have so far been unable to accomplish. That is, discredit the news worthiness of the internet. If this becomes common, the news on the internet will lose credibility and things will be as they were (i.e. fucked - or as it used to be "ignorance is bliss").
Red Eye is one of the lamest programs on television. It is chock full of self important 40-somethings posing as 20-something hipsters. Greg Gutfeld and the ridiculous, bogus baritone voice he uses to announce the fact he believes he is saying something important makes me want to shove a pencil through is neck.
Red Eye is Fox's weak attempt at drawing in a younger crowd. Only Fox would think 40-somethings would draw a younger demographic.
This is all a ploy. The story we heard was true. It was on FoxNews!!!
F-bomb in first post was rather surprising...some really need to expand their lexicon.
I would lick her toes
Where'd that come from there ole, 10:07?
Barry, linkbaiting wasn't such a bad term before. But thanks to phony stories like this, linkbaiting is now seen as a notorious practice.
