Decatur High School Chaos

For some crazy reason, every person driving into Decatur High School is being checked for driver's license and insurance. Which might be an illegal stop. Haven't seen this in years. Edit: A driver's license checkpoint was held to be illegal recently in State v. Luxon, 230 S.W.23d 440 (Tex. App. - Eastland 2007, no pet.). The fact it is school property does give it an interesting twist.

I remember about ten years ago that happening.....the claim was to make sure the kids driving to school really should have been. I know many that would catch a ride with someone else and come back later for their car.

I think that's SOP round these parts. I tend to see a Trooper parked near our school right at the end of May every year, checking all drivers for the correct papers. You know how those farm kids are - they think if they can drive a tractor, they can drive the family truck to school, even though they are barely twelve!

They did this on West Thompson Street when I was in high school in the late 1990's...they checked for a DL and an insurance card.

its illegal you S.O.Bs

don't decatur cops got bigger fish to fry? good grief.

We are seeing the emergence of a police state in our lifetime. They were probably looking for contraband. Like books to burn or Rollo Candies to steal from glove compartments.

It's illegal, huh? Well I guess you need to do something about it huh?

It's a yearly thing; been going on since the 90s at DHS. What are you people crying for? Update the tags and insurance on your kids cars and drive legally like the rest of us!

Big Brother is watching you, even in Wise county. Keep ignoring government intrusions into your life while you vote republican. Good times.

I missed the chaos thank goodness, but when I got to the high school at 4:25 there were still 4 Decatur police cars parked along the side of Eagle Summit Drive. School gets out at 3:40, so that's a long time for 4 of our police officers to be at the high school. Any crimes committed around that time anywhere else in town? Just wondering..........

In reference to the edit stating that they were on school property: Is that road leading up to the high school city property or school property? Anyone know about that?

They did that on W. Thompson St. when I was a junior. I graduated in 2006.

i remember in the 80's when they first passed the POI law. the b'port pd set up a road block right on Halsel street in front of the index.
some school kids were stopped over and over every lap. so instead of whining to the paper they egged the road block. not sure who it was but they didnt get caught.

good times LOL

That road in front of the school is PUBLIC! Some of us have to work that was freaking crazy! I was late! How are we expected to get things done in this county???

Why do parents let their children drive vehicles without a license? It makes no sense to me.

They weren't just checking teenage drivers. They checked every single car. It took some people over half an hour to get out of that parking lot. After 4:00 however, the gate that leads to Carson was opened up, so many students went that way and avoided the situation completely.

re: 8:33

When's the last time anyone egged a hayride? AAAHHH, sweet memories!

Sexy Rexy has been doing this since the 80's. It has nothing to do with your interests, it's all about revanue.

How do you spell revenue?

Anonymous said...

11:18 I bet sexy Rexy knows how to spell!

What 8:24 meant was that if it really is illegal, then file a report or something.

I think you'll find out that this instance is NOT illegal.

The case sighted might have been, but how many of you have read that case and compared it to the situation in Decatur?

Pulleeeeeaaaaasssseeeee - don't believe everything you read here or anywhere else. Use your brain and check it out for yourself.
