It Just Might Happen

(Language warning.) This is the first three minutes of Idiocracy, a movie about a normal guy who ends up in the future and automatically becomes the "smartest man in the world" - simply because the rest of society had been dumbed down. (The president of the United States is a former ultimate fighting champion, and the House of Representatives has been renamed The House of Representin'. Oh yeah, the #1 television show is a program that constantly shows men being hit in the crotch.) Anyway, the first three minutes shows how it could happen. Ever since I first saw it, I can't get it out of my mind. It's supposed to be a comedy, but most of my friends who have seen it believe it's not that far fetched. Interestingly, a study came out in London last week saying it will happen.

Sounds like the old novel "A Conneticutt Yankee in King Arthur's Court." Same idea.

Yep!

It does seem likely.

After reading this article, it makes me wonder why it'll take 1,000 years for this to happen?

As long as the dim witted religious fundamentalist keep marrying each other and producing children we should have a split within the next 200 years.

Well, smart attorney boy, get out there and start reproducing so the dumb rednecks (and minorities) don’t overpopulate our world.

I think it has already happened.

I'm going to have to go with Enormo on this one. Go to Walmart or the courthouse on any given day if you disagree.

I'm with enormo too, reading 99% of the comments is proof enough for me.

Our health insurance programs contribute to this socially degenarative situation. HMO's, for example, charge you the same amount of premium if you have 1 or 21 children. I just signed up for next years health insurance. If I do not include my ONLY child, I pay like $600/year. If I add just my ONLY child(we call him Prince William), he adds another $1000/year, taking my total bill to $1600. The funny thing is if I had 21 kids, it would be the same price.

What's up with that???

I'm not even going to bring up the tax deductions the IRS gives you for dependents. If I had the 21 kids, I'd get one hell of a refund check every year....you know what???...That gives me an idea....I need to get moving on this procreation thing...the wife is still pretty hot, even though she's 44 years old...she looked like Bridget Nielson for Halloween...by the time I file my taxes in 2020....damn....it would be like hitting the LOTTERY!!!

Double Fake Yep It's Us

Idiocracy is one of the best movies I've seen in a while.

A hundred years ago when only the children of people who could and would provide sufficiently for THEIR children to survive had grandchildren who knew to provide for THEIR children thus creating a population of people who realized they had to provide for THEMSELVES. Now that people have the abiility to control procreation there is a decreasing segment of responsible members of society who only have the number of children for whom THEY can and will provide.

With the advent of "Social Engineering" whereby society has assumed the burden of assuring the care and survival of EVERY child produced by parents who are either incapable or unwilling to provide for THEIR children there is a growing population of citizens who have come to realize it is not necessary to provide for themselves.

Survival of the fittest worked to the benefit of humans for MILLIONS of years. I do believe it will take LESS than a 1000 years for "Social Engineering" to FORCE humans to take SEVERAL steps back DOWN the evolutionary ladder.
