History Revision: Today Baylor Beat Oklahoma Two Years Ago

OKLAHOMA CITY - The Oklahoma football program must forfeit its wins from the 2005 season and will lose two scholarships for the 2008-09 and 2009-10 school years. The penalties, announced Wednesday by the NCAA, stem from a case involving two players, including the Sooners' starting quarterback, who were kicked off the team for being paid for work they had not performed at a Norman car dealership.

The Sooners went 8-4 and beat Oregon in the Holiday Bowl to end the 2005 season. Records from that season involving quarterback Rhett Bomar [pictured] and offensive lineman J.D. Quinn must be vacated, the NCAA said, and coach Bob Stoops' career record will be amended to reflect the forfeitures, dropping it from 86-19 in eight seasons to 78-27.

That's crazy.

Why is that crazy? They got of with a wrist slap. Should have been the death penalty like SMU received.

Gig 'Em Aggies--a program clean as a whistle ever since Jackie Sherill

I've done some reading on this subject this afternoon and if you do your homework you realize that OU (whether I want to admit it or not) took care of business when they found out about the issues. They did their own self-reporting and also imposed penalties that some other universities felt were probably more severe than necessary.

The problem here lies in that if a player wants cheat/take money and a booster wants to give money then it is extremely difficult for an institution to find out about it unless someone on the outside reports it. As happened in this case if I am correct.

This is part of the reason why USC will never get punished for the Reggie Bush stuff.

I would be that OU has one of the best compliance departments in the country since this has happened.

Anyway, Go Horns and I hope we beat them into the ground this year.

STILL CHEATING in Norman. Self imposed sanctions?

Yes, we all know OU has an untarnished reputation in all things such as student athlete graduation rates to various penal institutions. Integrity and OU are as synonymous as stating Championship and Baylor.
