Edit: Man, I'm confused. Just saw a hard copy of the Messenger and the story says Decatur won in overtime. Somebody answer this for me: Bridgeport goes first in OT and kicks a field goal. Decatur goes next and scores a touchdown and then (here's where I'm confused) kicks an extra point. Kicks an extra point when you just won the game in overtime?

Edit yet again: Someone commented that "the point system" decides ties at the end of the year for the district championship. Makes sense. I didn't know you were allowed to kick an extra point after scoring the game winning touchdown in overtime. Learn something every day.

One helluva game tonight, boys and girls! Hated to see either team lose. WOW!

I heard Bridgeport would have won the game except some kid tried to block 2 Decatur players on different sides of the field and it ended in total disaster.

the decatur coaching staff never ceases stops amazing me. what they do to put the boys in the best possible chance to win a game is beautiful.

one of many smart coaching moves ... game tied 27-27 in the third quarter, decatur onsides kicks, recovers, goes down and scores. bridgeport coaches scratching their heads

priceless

I congratulate ALL those kids! Both teams battled bravely to represent their towns and to earn a win in this annual saga. It is the KIDS who deserve the pats on the backs because that is who the games are for. Neither team should hang their heads after such a ballgame. In fact, I appreciate their providing such unbelievable exciting entertainment for Wise County fans! Winners on all sides of this one!

DO you think Bridgeport will ever get the mental game going and beat Decatur?

Good game on both sides!

In district play if there is a tie(at the end of regular season)then they go to a point system. Hence the extra point.

1:14. I really think the speed of Trant and the leg of the Decatur kicker had a lot more to do with the outcome of the game rather than any folklore about any superiority of Decatur coaching. Both coaches are very good at what they do.

We could argue this one all year. Players can't win without coaches; coaches can't win without players.

Coaches who don't win usually ease on down the road.

Good game - both teams!

Newsflash...

5 Decatur players tested positive for steroids last night when the UIL administered surprise UA's on both teams. Test results were made public around 10 this morning.

UIL officials said they recieved an anonymous tip that many of the Decatur players had exibited unusually small scrotums in the locker room, which is normally a side effect of the drug.

The players will face probation and possible suspension, depending on their willingness to get help and have sex with their probation officer.

7:56AM, this isn't World War II. Its just a football game.

Story owns Henson, plain and simple.

This year Bridgeport let one slip away from them. Completely were not looking for the onsides attempt with game tied at 27. The front line of the Bulls did not even look back to see the ball kicked, just turned and ran as soon as the Eagles started running. I think it was the play of the game.

The much vaunted and talked up Bridgeport D never materialized. Which is absolutely postively why you had to go for two at the end of the game. Of course, if you make that PAT at half you never have to worry about it.

Funny to see Unger and Trant playing defense at critical points in the game? I thought your really good skill players could only play offense?

Oh well, in the end people will talk about how tough we played em, how good Decatur really was, etc... Rubbish. Just another year Decatur beats Bridgeport... six in a row if you are counting. Isn't that 8 of 9 that Story has taken from Henson? Amazing...

eatme, it appears you would be the the anonymous tipster with you interest in scrotums.

About the extra point - both sides were exiting the field as the game was over - Decatur celebrating; Brigdeport dejected. Then the refs called them back for the extra point. I didn't know it was for the point system - I'm glad to know there was some reason for it. I'm a Decatur fan & I felt bad for Bridgeport when they did that.

Great game! Most entertaining! And 1:34, that's all 7:56 was saying - it was great entertainment! A war is hardly that.

AND - the Bridgeport kids & Decatur kids meeting at center field between the 3rd & 4th quarters so that Bridgeport could give the money they raised for Jackie Murphree - UNBELIEVABLY touching. I had goose bumps and a catch in my throat. The Decatur crowd clapped a long time to express the gratitude they felt towards Bridgeport for doing that. Now THAT moment WAS more than just a game.

That's funny, rpm.

What coach would let a kid with his face painted up like a clown out on the football field? (see front of sports page on Sunday's WC Messenger)What a tool. Parents must be real proud.

If that is a symptom of taking steriods then anyone could obviously see that I have never taken any steriods in my life and the the - well you know - to prove it!

1:34, are you an idiot or what? WWII? If you can't tell that 7:56's comment was just about that football game then you must be an idiot! Just because the word "battled" was used doesn't mean it was a WW! Obviously you have never played football if you don't believe there was an intense battle going on during that game. Get a grip! dunce!

Bottom Line:

Great game played by both teams,
Helicoptor delivering the game ball was classic,
Bridgeport handing over collection for Jackie was awesome, and it would be fair to say play selection by Story was just better than Hensons.
Score was back and forth all night so you can't blame it on the players.
