I've debated about posting this pic, but I couldn't hold back any longer. You guys hate sports posts. I know that. I hate baseball. You know that. But this is an actual photo of a Florida Marlins game in progress held on Wednesday, September 12th.There aren't any exceptional circumstances. No rain delay. No screw ups as to the starting time.
Just America's past time on its death bed.

That's sad...and they won the World Series a few years ago.
WOW!
It looks like Barry and The Blog are not the ONLY people who think baseball sucks!
*;)
Barry,
I like, & sometimes love, your sports posts. You do a great job here - you have great instincts & you are quite witty. I hope you continue to trust your instincts about what to post. It is your blog, after all. The growing popularity shows that people enjoy looking at what you have to say.
There is only one thing I don't like about this blog......and that's the guys who continually make comments that I think of, at best, is "locker room" talk. You know - the crude sexual comments that teenage or college-age boys say about women when no women are around. I've always assumed that with maturity and sophistication, guys outgrow that. But apparently that's not true for all guys. It's quite offensive, but oh well. I still like to maintain (in my head anyway) that these bloggers would not make those comments if they were standing in a room with woment all around, that they somehow just conveniently forget that this blog audience is 50% women.
Well, I got off on a tangent there. BAck to my original reason for posting - Barry, you do a great job and add bright spots in the days of many people. Keep up the good work.
ANON 6:14
Bless you for your stance.
Barry, here's a perfect POLL OPPORTUNITY.
Perhaps, a showing poll would convince the potty mouths that not everyone thinks with their thoughtless head. Seems maybe the potty mouth bunch are truly lacking and find this blog to bolster their deficiency.
Help us clean it up, Barry.
6:14,
Here's a quarter.
You may not like baseball but the Miami Marlins are NOT an example of the game's popularity. Baseball at all professional level is doing quite well. Non-fans can cite many strange aspects to the game but so can non-fans of any sport. Some think all organized sport is a waste of time. Well, each to his/her own.
Well, for one reason, It takes FOREVER to play a game. Talk about a game that has lost its "pace", professional baseball is one of the worst. Of course, it takes FOREVER to play professional football, also, and a close basketball game is ridiculous with all the timeouts the rules allow!
shut up, mzchief
We are still waiting for you to post your new poll(something to get us all going)............drum roll please...............and the topic is.......(HURRY UP-OK)....
Barry, --- and maybe you just meant the use of the term "past time" as a pun, which is kind of appropriate --- but the correct word to use here is "pastime", as in "an activity used to pass the time", or "something that amuses, to make time pass agreeably". "Past time" is a reference to history.
If you want a world class blog here ... and really, you're on your way ... you really need to work out these little WiseCountism kinks.
Why is it that the free market system is appreciated everywhere but in professional sports? If people wanted to go, they would take time off from their jobs, pay way too much, and go. Hooray for the Miami fans for showing who's boss.
Baseball is like life...You kind of cruise along through a couple of long innings and just think man how boring where is this going? Then you hear the crack of the bat....you look up and something big is happening...you stand up and cheer (or catcall) and think man what was I thinking not following the game. Then after your rush settles you go back to your peanuts and cracker jacks.
Baseball is a waiting game, waiting for the big moments to happen (that may never come)between the mundane moments, but when that gem comes....it will thrill your soul.
Go Cubbies!!!!!
That would be the Florida Marlins that happen to play their games in Miami. Kind of like the Texas Rangers that happen to play their games in Arlington.
If I'm in Miami, FL, during the summertime, there is no way I spend 3-4 hour sitting in a baseball stadium. Especially when South Beach, golf, fishing, boating and other earthly pleasures are only minutes away.
I think we should have a poll on who doesn't care what 6:14 and 7:30 think.
OMG 9:06 Are you for real? Only an IDIOT would do what you just did, on a BLOG. WOW!
I'll also pitch in a dime for 6:14. Pssst... 6:14, when you get to be a big girl, you'll realize that boys will be boys and there's not much you can do about it. Show them a pretty girl and here they go, their tongues start wagging. They’re either going to say it or think it. It doesn't matter how old they are.
Geez...7:30, if you can't hang with the big dogs, there's always other blogs for you to browse or a church service somewhere. I don’t know if you noticed or not but, this blog has cleaned up quite a bit. Evidently, that's not good enough for you.
Barry, I guess you will have to cut out all the fun to satisfy these two.
They need the Texas Tech swimteam
I consider this an insult to Boyd, now it looks like there are less people then let's say Chico or Alvord.
Poll; Boyd or Bridgeport!
You see more people on the VISITORS' side at a Boyd game, and those stands are tiny.
By the way, 6:14 - maybe you forgot that the posts on this blog are moderated nowadays. They all have to be approved before they are posted. Most of them are double entendres and harmless. Much better than it used to be, especially with all the flaming posts and personal attacks. That's what made it really hard to wade through for me.
Keep up the good work, Barron!
7:51 - Yes, I agree - good point.
My point, which I obviously didn't make too well, was that I come to this blog for a lot of things, first & foremost, Barry's posts, as well as bloggers' comments. The only thing I could do without & skim through with a shake of my head are the locker room comments, which you so correctly stated, are usually double entendres. I don't expect or want Barry to censor those; I just making the point that I find nothing inspiring, amusing, helpful, thought-provoking, etc. about those comments. THat is just my opinion and is probably worth about the .35 I was offered here. :)
Barry,
Since I know you prefer rumor to fact, I thought you might want to know that your erroneous post almost worked.
"There aren't any exceptional circumstances. No rain delay."
This game was delayed 40 minutes in the 7th, but don't take my word for it.
