Incomplete News

I could have sworn I just heard a report on WBAP about a bad accident at Stephen F. Austin [Edit: Tarleton?] One or two students were killed and a young man from Alvord was injured. I'm trying to track it down. Edit: Maybe this is it. Motorcycles wreck on Sunday. One of the two died today. Does the name Apollo Long ring a bell to anyone? Double Edit: Maybe that wasn't it. Edit: Now WBAP hasn't run with the story again. Edit: Finally got confirmation that Ryan Crutsinger (as a commenter pointed out) was involved in the wreck at around 2:30 a.m. at Tarleton. No alcohol involved (that's what the email said). Despite suffering a broken jaw, three broken vertabrae, and a broken shoulder blade, he is expected to fully recover.

Not him. The kid from Alvord is Ryan Crutsinger. He was the quarterback last year, Great kid. We understand that he only had a broken jaw and a hip injury.

From the Stephenville newspaper:

" Weekend accident claims two lives

Two people have died after sustaining injuries in an accident last Sunday night.

Timothy Cunningham, a 29-year-old Stephenville resident, died at approximately 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. Lora Wulfjen, an 18-year-old Tarleton State University freshman from Breckenridge, died Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred on West Washington Street, when a 16-year-old Dublin male turned left onto Dale Street. Wulfjen was Cunningham’s passenger on a motorcycle that careened into the 1994 Geo Prism.

Both were airlifted to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.

Also airlifted to Harris Methodist Hospital in Fort Worth, was 17-year old Julie Ohnemus. Hospital officials said Wednesday morning that Ohnemus was still in the Intensive Care Unit, listed in fair condition.

Ohnemus was the passenger on the motorcycle driven by Apollo Long, 21, who was treated at Harris Methodist Erath County Hospital and released.

The driver of the Prism and his 15-year-old female passenger were also treated and released at HMEC.

Stephenville Police Chief Roy Halsell said no charges have been filed against the car’s driver and that the investigation into the accident is ongoing.

Rusty Jergins, associate vice president of student life and dean of students for Tarleton, called Wulfgen’s death “a tragic loss” for the university.

“We extend our prayers and sympathy to the family during this difficult time,” he said.

Jergins said grief counseling will be available for students through the Student Counseling Center.

So, like there were TWO wrecks in Stephenville this weekend? AND a wreck in Nachodoches too? All involving a kid from Alvoid? Amazing.

Jesus, I hope you don't defend your clients the same way you report the news...

RE: original post
Why would anyone assume that if it was Tarleton and 2:30 a.m., there would be alcohol involved?

Where's the news story on this accident? I've looked and can't find any information.

Mom of 2 Tarleton Grads (again)
Been to City Limits - have seen the exit when Last Cigarette/Empty Glass is played. Had to be there when one son dunked his ring - drove him home.
The other son had his wedding reception at City Hall (City Limits).

Wonder if the lady that danced by herself is still alive.

It's in the Update today.

Anybody been to Bostocks?

Anonymous said...

I saw the update, but is there any other news report that gives more info?

Anonymous said...

Never been to Bostock's but I have been in a few Buttocks and they aren't all they're cracked up to be if you axed me.

Although it was the wrong news, the Stephenville newspaper article was worded poorly. Were Apollo Long & Julie Ohnemus riding on a motorcycle next to Timothy Cunningham & Lora Wulfjen?

This entire thread reminds me of playing the game "telephone." That's the game where each person down the line whispers the information to the next person. At the end of the line, the information is totally wrong and confusing.

That's why I wanted to know if there was a news report that could shine light on the true story.

sad that so many adults, comment with such childish remarks! for christ sake, there has been an accident and a fatality, and people no matter who or what did or did not happen, the young man is from wise county so let's be more caring and try to refrain from being the idiots that you are! my prayers are with all these young adults and their families.
