When you get a chance to see the Messenger today, count the number of bullet holes in the driver's side door of Kevin Wood's vehicle.
(The paper reproduced the photo on its web site but it's very small and can't be enlarged).

I'm sure the Officers were a little nervous! I love the way the Blog is trying to make us feel sorry for this guy because he continues to drink & drive. He made that choice over & over and if his parents were so worried about him then they should have tried to help him. Had the Officers not pulled him over, he might have killed someone. I would bet that after everything is said & done we will find out that he was extremely intoxicated or high or something. The officers did what they had to do and I'm sure they all wish it had ended differently. I'm glad none of them were hurt by someone so careless!
I counted 8 holes, unless a couple were already there. But seriously 8 holes? Do the sherriffs dept. officers train for situations like that? I guess they would, but 8 shots makes me think someone needs target practice.
I think it's probably a case of doing enough damage to make sure the job is done, although I think, for example, the Bonnie and Clyde killing was a bit overdone. But the guy shouldn't have been stupid enough to have a gun and shoot at cops. GO COPS!!!
one bullet per officer, whats the point? Good shootin' to me. They should have filled his body full of lead for not only drinking and driving and putting my life at risk, but also for shooting at a peace officer. Die!
I would be willing to bet that the officers who did the shooting aren't as fired up about killing someone - as all of you above are. How sad. Everybody's life has value to someone.
What would you want them to do? Shoot once and stop, attempt to see if the threat was over, possibly get shot at again. The officers did what was necessary in an unfortunate situation.
Thank you to those of you that support law enforcement in their effort to make Wise County a safer place for all of us.
BLOG, your statement would leave a person that doesn't know you to believe that you feel it may have been overkill. Be glad that you will never be put in that position.
So, I guess the officers should have stood around, asking each other who was going to shoot first...not likely. Unfortunately they were shot at and retaliated. The man was going to die...one or eight...doesn't really matter. If the officers were one of your sons, brothers, fathers...what would you feel then?
Hey, the cops in this case were Reactive, not PRO active. They waited until they absolutely couldn't wait anymore. Had they fired first, then maybe that would be different, but they did what they had to do. And BTW, it's not the cops cheerleading here, it's those of us who unabashedly support law enforcement in what they do. Thank GOD for law enforcement men and women.
i am just glad this 3-time drunk driver is now off the streets. it was much better him than my child possibly driving home from work (or anyone else's for that matter) only to get hit by this repeat offender.
Its very sad that the situation had to end this way, but if he had produced a weapon and fired upon officers it wouldnt have ended up this way. The officers did what had to be done, put yourself in their shoes, if someone was firing at you would you just stand there and think of whatelse could be done, think not. If you read the Wise County Messenger Sunday Addition (10/30/05,read the article that the father of Kevin Wood said .. He states that anyone who is upset about the incident they need to boycott decatur businesses, why, Decatur Police Department didnt exchange gun fire with the suspect, so why boycott... sas
Its sad when you read that someone was shot and killed. To those who oppose of the outcome, put yourself in the officers shoes, would you just stand there and let someone shoot at you, most likely not. Also the father made a comment that anyone who is upset of how this ended up, if Kevin Wood wouldnt had pointed and fired his weapon at officers it wouldnt have ended up this way.. so as to his fathers comment to boycott decatur businesses is very bad choice of words as to Decatur Police Department Offices didnt exchange in the gun fight.

Death by cop is a recognized form of suicide. He fired first right???????

ONE shot ONE kill. NOT 8 shots ONE kill.
