Maybe I Don't Understand Politics At All

The Republicans control both houses of Congress. They have a president that is twice elected. The electorate is composed of a majority of conservatives. So, call me naive, but why doesn't Bush simply throw down the gauntlet: Nominate a person to the Supreme Court that will say he/she is conservative, is a strict constructionist and, without any qualification, say that Roe v. Wade was wrongly decided and, if presented with the same facts, would overturn the decision. The Republicans will not always be in power. Minorities are generally Democrats and, as the years pass, the minority population will dwarf white, conservative, and Republican America. Why doesn't W take charge while he has an opportunity?

Elected twice, appointed once, elected once.

Why can't Bush pick another strict reconstructionist to the Supreme Court? He said he would when he ran for office.

Bush has a base of Big Business and right wing fundamentalist poltical Christians. Big Business will win out. If Bush picks a right wing nut, the moderate Republicans will join with the Democrats and not confirm the right wing nut.

Big Business owns both parties in Washington. They will get decide who serves on the Supreme Court.

He does not take charge for 2 reasons:
reason 1: Laura Bush
reason 2: Barbara Bush (MAMA)

I absolutely agree with anon 10:03......Laura said, "get a woman" and he did. And Barbara Bush has made her views on abortion pretty clear, as has Laura. So all of this doesn't sit well with the religious right when Miers came on the scene.

If James Dobson is so "right" why doesn't he run for President?

Stupid comments: 4 out of 4.

Barry: Under Senate rules, it would take 60 votes to prevent some moron demo (there are many to choose from) from filabustering the nomination. The Republicans don't have 60 votes.

Actually the Republicians should change the rules and go to a simple majority. then he could nominate whoever he wanted and tell the demos to go pee up a burnt rope.

Perhaps he is too honorable to think like you do. There are many out here like that.

I get so disgusted. The Republicans still act as if the Democrats are the majority. Stand up and fight for what you believe. So what if they whine. We were elected. It's our turn now.

If the elected republicans don't change the way they do things, they may not be in office long. I know I'm ready to fire at least the entire state legislature. I'm thinking of firing more than that given the opportunity.
