Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Two boats, carrying eight kids, collided on Lake Lewisville on Sunday. Odd: Both were rentals, alcohol was not involved, and everyone had their life jackets on.  I've never been on that lake, but I've heard it's crazy dangerous on weekend afternoons.
  • And what was up with that sultry look from a Redskins cheerleader last night?
  • I know no one probably reads him, but Star-Telegram "sports humorist" David Thomas is anything but.
  • The VMAs were on last night and I didn't see a second of them. Whose bright idea was to put it on opposite of the NFL on opening weekend?
  • Lot's of emergency vehicles just off College Street in Decatur this morning.
  • I thought that Tony Romo lateral to the wide receiver that ended up with a fumble and a touchdown right before the half was improvised. But apparently it was a called play. Dumb.
  • I've said it for two years: The Cowboys will never win with Wade Phillips as the head coach.
  • TCU begins as a 17 point favorite over Baylor on Saturday. The Empire is a 7 1/2 point favorite over Tech (who wore white helmets last weekend?)
  • Weird dream last night: I lived in a high rise condo on Lake Bridgeport at the end of a dirt road that was closed due to bad weather. When I finally made it there, Britney Spears was made at me for not asking her out. Yeah, that's normal.
  • Jessica?
  • Another ceiling fan installed (although it was a little dicey when the little dog knocked over a king size
  • mattress that I had balanced on one end and it crashed into the ladder I was standing on. How it didn't go down is a miracle.)
  • "But I’m also respectful that people of different faiths can practice their religion, even if they don't subscribe to the exact same notions that I do, and that they are still good people, and they are my neighbors and they are my friends, and they are fighting alongside us in our battles." - President Obama at last week's press conference (and to think their are people that will actually criticize him for that.)
  • Odd DWI accident last night in Dallas: Two homeless guys sleeping at a bus stop get killed when a car plows into them.
  • Watched the NFL RedZone this weekend. I can't tell you enough how great it is.

Obama's statement is great as a sound bite. It's his specialty -- a feel-good platitude which doesn't reveal anything new in policy or thought. (I wonder if recent polls showing increasing confusion about his religion were on his mind?) Like most of the things he's said while in the public eye, Obama wasn't pressed about the details of his remark.

Is Obama respectful of sharia law that practices mutilation and stoning? How does he feel about the rights of women under sharia law? How does he reconcile his remark with such "notions?" If he believes Americans should be tolerant of these practices, don't we have the right to know?

"I’m also respectful that people of different faiths can practice their religion". Problem is there are a lot of people in the religion he is talking about who believe they should murder those who will not convert to their religion. And they have practiced this belief on American soil. The Kenyan can keep talking in his ignorant way of thinking but watch what happens in November.

What would people have said after WWII if Americans of Japanese ancestory decided to build a "Community Center" at the docks at Pearl Harbor? What would the Japanese say if Americans decided to build American "Community Centers" at ground zero of the atomic blasts in Japan?

Barry, you go right ahead and "hug" the Muslims...they may call it religion, but there goal is to kill and destroy...no one has a right to their religious beliefs if that religion's goal is to kill and destroy human beings...do some research on the Barbary Powers War in the 1800s, the Muslims have tried to take over America before...if you and millions like you and the president continue to embrace the muslim way of life out of ignorance, they will take over, and you will be forced to bow to them and their way of violence. Wake up, America!

Anything on the wreck in Boyd on Friday night/Saturday morning? Teenagers driving while intoxicated, hit a tree, one was killed, one was taken to hospital, and two left the scene..Anyone?

The Rangers sweep the Yankees (a likely first round opponent), are winning the AL West going away, playing arguably the best baseball ever in DFW, and finally get a fantastic outing from Cliff Lee to pull in the fanatics off the ledge...

...and all you hear this Monday morning from Barry and everyone is Cowboys blah blah blah?

DFW doesn't deserve a Baseball team.

How about those Rangers?? Swept the Yankees. Maybe this will be our year!

There was a bunch of oil floating in the water in the cove that I live in on Lake Bridgeport yesterday. Has anyone heard anything about it?

The Buddhist Byodo-in Temple, rebuilt in the 1960's, is directly across the bay from the Marine Corps Base on Honolulu in Hawaii. There is a Buddhist temple outside the main gate of Hickman AFB. Honolulu, Hawaii. There are countless Buddhist temples and shrines in Pearl City, Honolulu, Hawaii. The Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbour were....wait for it....Buddhist. Just like today's Muslims, not all Buddhist wanted to kill Americans during WWII. I would have hoped, Americans would have learned from past unjust acts of wrongfully imprisoning US born citizens of Japanese descent and the wanton destruction of American Buddhist temples/shrines in the 1940's.

"But I’m also respectful that people of different faiths can practice their religion, even if they don't subscribe to the exact same notions that I do" -- NOTIONS? What notions? I would truely love to know his religious beliefs. But then I don't think he understands, either. Sad state of heart..................

Whoa, that Jess picture scared me a little, not sure if it was just her outfit or if she is ballooning again. At first glance I could have sworn I seen her caught on River Monsters last week....I think it was the Goonch!!!!

DFW has a baseball team?

I don't think of Dave Thomas as "haha' funny, but he is a refreshing change of pace from grumpy grandpa Galloway and hateful Jen Engel

You call that a sultry look? I've seen better from the Dallas cheerleaders...with one breasteses tied behind their backs

I don't have a problem with the play called at the end of the first half - just in the execution. If it had gone for a TD, everyone would be saying how brilliant it was. Hindsight is 20/20, and everyone is reaching for their corrective bifocals on this one

As others have mentioned, the Rangers swept New York and you made no mention of it.
The Yanks are in a tight pennant race and can't afford to fall behind, in spite of having the best record in the majors. It's a big deal not just that they won, but how they did it. Walk-off homer in 13 innings, and a walk-off hit-by-pitch. Plus a good old fashioned small-ball whooping yesterday
Let's not forget the Rangers amid all the sky-is-falling football talk

Mzchief....the Japanese never bombed anyone in the name of Buddha. The Japanese, at the time of WWII, were imperialist/nationalist and swore their faith and allegiance to their emperor only. It amazes me how many times you are wrong and no one calls you out on it. You form some half-assed opinion and expect people to accept it as fact. Maybe people in Wise County are not as stupid as you assume.

Mzchief said not all Buddhist
want to kill Americans any more than all Muslims want to either.
I also would assume that some of the Americans who dropped the atomic bomb on Hiroshima were 'Christians'.

Ohhhhh, now I understand. You are using the actions of ZEALOTS, who have used the Qur'an, in an attempt, to justify their hatred for and murder of everyone who is not them, as your justification for attempting to keep a religious organization from building a religious community centre and house of worship.

You do realize, the KKK used the Christian Bible, for nearly 70 years, to justify their hatred, victimization and murder of Blacks and Whites who defended Blacks, right? Using your "logic" there should not be a Christian church in a Black neighbourhood. Let us further implement your "logic" and demolish every Catholic church in neighbourhoods with young boys. Bishops and Cardinals covered up, for decades, for the pedophile priests. I realize it was just a small percentage of priests who, used their position, within the Catholic church, to gain access to and sexually abuse young boys but based on your "logic" ALL Catholics approve of sexually abusing young boys.

Obviously, YOU know NOTHING about the VAST majority of Muslims, who adhere to mainstream Islam, but feel comfortable wrapping your hatred up in YOUR IGNORANCE and judging many by the actions of a few. Personally, I believe ALL religions are little more than social clubs that organize for the purpose of forcing their agenda on as many people as possible.

I have never assumed people in Wise County are stupid but I most assuredly KNOW you are STUPID.

In the future you might want to remember and apply the sage advice of Mark Twain.
"It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt."

BTW...Thank you for calling me on my original comment. It was incomplete.

10:36, Just be patient. Obammy has been working on the oil spill since day one and will have BP issue you a check for any inconvenience you might experience.

wordkyle said...

mzchief - I think what most Americans would like is for mainstream, peaceful Muslims to put pressure on the radical behavior to make it stop -- just as Americans (including Christians) did with the KKK, and Catholics did with their own church when news of the priest molestings became known.

While radical Islamic terrorism does not reflect all of Islam, it is certainly a dangerous and powerful movement within Islam. Until the rest of Islam clamps down on those within their midst, it's natural for Americans to view the subject with an eye toward self preservation.

To judge the entire group by the extremists in the group is a dangerous thought process indeed. America will never learn this lesson, as arrogance is its primary tenet. It hold itself superior to other races, religions, political systems. That is why we kill others in the name of our righteous arrogance. We are NO BETTER than any of them.

Mzchief...12:08 here...Wrong again.
You obviously do not understand. At no point in my post did I mention anything to do with Muslims, Christians or any religion
other than Buddhism. I merely stated the Japanese did not bomb in the name of Buddha. While not all Buddhist are bombers, according to you, all bombers were Buddhist which is a stretch. How could you know that? You stated "The Japanese who bombed Pearl Harbour were....wait for it....Buddhist." The Japanese Army at the time swore their allegiance to the emperor. Where did you come up will all the other garbage? Is that your way of putting up a smokescreen to hide your ignorance?
You can use bold letters and CAPS all you want but it does not make it true and it does not make you relevant. Suck on that for awhile.

9:50 Easy on the "best baseball ever in DFW" comments. I'll need to look up the current stat, but as of last week, they were 2 games behind where they were the same time a year ago, when they were in 3rd place and didn't stand a chance of the playoffs. Instead of "best baseball ever in DFW" how about "worst collective baseball ever by OAK, LAA, and SEA."

But with all that said, I hope they find a way to repeat this weekend come next month.

I think alot of Americans would also like to hear from some of the Christians , Republicans, Tea Baggers etc to put pressure on some of their members to stop the lies, hate and disrepect of the President of the US.

wordkyle said...

Liz - What are "tea baggers?" You guys are obviously familiar with that term because you use it all the time. The only thing close phonetically is the Tea Party movement, but it doesn't have anything to do with bags. I guess that's a Liberal Democrat thing.

As for "lies, hate and disrespect," if you'll provide an example I'll see what I can explain. If it's about what's allegedly said at Tea Party rallies, it's hard to differentiate between actual nutjobs and the Liberal Democrat infiltrators.

Liz, respect is earned through deeds. Obama has not earned any respect. Intelligent folk don't fall for his "everyday" speech bs! Too bad you do.

Liz, you are so correct. I remember all the love that was shown George Bush by the democrats. I feel so bad that the conservatives are slamming the annointed one who is lowering the sea levels, spending us out of debt, giving us all free health care, bringing back respect from around the world, ending the Iraq war, bringing Bin Laden to justice, surrounding himself with people that love this country, reaching out to Muslims through NASA, working hard from day one to plug the gulf oil spill, putting millions out of work, and playing more golf than Tiger Woods. The only problem I have with him is that he gave the order to shoot Somalia pirates. Now that was cold blooded murder.

To wordkyle @ 3:55...
Are you serious? Stop and look/think about the numerous MUSLIM nations that have assisted the US, by allowing the US military as well as CIA and NSA operatives to base out of their country, to fight, capture and surveil MUSLIM TERRORISTS. Incidentally, it is a violation of Islamic law and teaching for a Muslim to aid an "infidel" who seeks to harm/destroy a Muslim.

In 2005 Abdul Rauf, the Imam, associated with the Park51/Ground Zero mosque, clearly stated in his book;

"“The truth is that killing innocent people is always wrong — and no argument or excuse, no matter how deeply believed, can ever make it right. No religion on earth condones the killing of innocent people, no faith tradition tolerates the random killing of our brothers and sisters on this earth. ... Islamic law is clearly against terrorism, against any kind of deliberate killing of civilians or similar ‘collateral damage.’”
Source

Just a few nights ago, on CNN, Rauf reiterated his condemnation of all acts of terrorism, including Hamas. Rauf went so far as to out Hamas as a terrorist organization.

"I condemn everyone and anyone who commits acts of terrorism. And Hamas has committed acts of terrorism."
Source

Just because Muslims do not use the words YOU want them to use and do not make their statements on FOX News does not mean mainstream Islam is not speaking out against Islamic extremists.

Nice job of back-peddling. It seems as though you have had quite a bit of experience.

To Liz...

Where was your concern for the lack of respect being paid the POTUS when "W" was in office?

wordkyle said...

mzchief - I don't deny, and never claimed to the contrary, that Muslims have fought against the terrorists. However, the terrorism continues, so the pressure other Muslims have put on their radical brethren to make them stop (since every American action seems to "add to terrorist recruitment") has been insufficient. Using your example, the KKK was emasculated when American social pressure shut them down. (Incidentally, google "stetson kennedy" to see how Superman did it.) The right amount of social pressure to stop terrorism apparently is not there. Yet. I simply wish for that pressure to manifest itself sooner rather than later.

Frankly, how Muslims end Islamic terrorism is up to them, as long as they do it. Until then, Americans have the right -- out of a sense of self preservation -- to view the situation uneasily. How do you tell a radical Islamic terrorist from a peaceful Muslim until it is too late?

Mzchief....5:12 here. Is that all you have? There is no back peddling here, just re-stated the facts so you can understand them. Most people respect a person that can admit when they are wrong but that is one of those life lessons not everyone has learned.
