Craziness

The BCS rankings were just released and, as expected, OU leap frogged the Evil Empire which means (1) they will go to the Big 12 Championship game, and (2) to the National Championship game after they thump Missouri in that game. Texas has every right to be upset considering they beat Oklahoma on a neutral field back in October. But so it goes. Since I haven't heard anyone talk about it, I presume that if Florida beats Alabama in the SEC Championship Game (and they probably will), they jump Texas as well leaving us with 1. Oklahoma 2. Florida 3. Texas. I haven't heard any serious talk of a Texas/OU rematch in the National Championship game, but I think I'll go snoop around for it.

this makes me sick. I was there when Texas beat OU and if they played again, I would bet on Texas!

I think all the top 10 teams will lose in the coming weeks leaving TCU #1. Mark my words. It will come to pass.

And damned if BU didn't almost beat Tech.

That would have been funny.

CAN YOU PROVE IT IN A COURT OF LAW? said...

yes! We live to play another week. Sucks for Texas, indeed.

There's nothing worse than an uneducated person who somehow finds it his duty to be an Oklahoma Sooner fan.

BTW....David Boren is a proved homosexual. So basically, if you root for Oklahoma you are pro-homosexuality.

May God have mercy on your soul.

Love see Florida beat Bama and OU beat Mizzou and somehow coaches and computers put OU 1 and UT 2 and FL 3. Remote, but only shot for that game.

This just proves how outrageous the BCS rankings are.
Texas beat OU soundly....fact
OU barely beat OSU....fact
Tech barely got away with a win over Baylor....fact
Texas beat A&M 49-9....fact..40 point margin

SO WHY IN THE HECK SHOULD OU BE ABOVE TEXAS????????????

BCS is a sham and should be done away with. True championship games should be based on a bracket system like all other play-off systems. Get the true winner from each division and play for the championship.

Mike Leach was correct. The tie breaker should be who has the best graduation rate, they are student athletes first. Texas beat OU, OU beat Tech and Tech beat Texas. What really gets me is that USC and Utah who has a lame schedule is still considered highly ranked. OU, Tech and Texas should all be ranked top 5.

and i also forrgot to mention
.............."The Southeastern Conference tiebreaker says that in the event of a three-way tie, the team that is rated the highest will be the division champion unless the second-highest team is within five places in the BCS standings. Then it reverts to head-to-head competition.........." You can bet emphasis is added. And you can bet that the Big 12 will revisit this rule after the season.

As a Texas graduate and fan, I'm disappointed. Yes, it's unfair, but the BCS is unfair to several teams - each year. But until a better system is devised, that's what we have. What's frustrating is that the Big 12 Championship will be played next week, and Texas has already beaten both teams soundly. When Oklahoma wins, they'll play the winner of the Florida - Alabama game for the national champioship.

The only consolation is that Oklahoma will choke once again in its bowl game.

If the shoe was on the other foot all you Horns fans would say the BCS is wonderful for finally coming through. Take care of business when you have to and none of this would matter. Do you honestly think UT is one of the 2 best teams in the country? Personally, both of them, maybe 3 of them are in the SEC.

Oh, and Anon-6:23, there are seems to be more Horns fans that don't speak a word of English than those who are, so please, don't even try that crap. UT probably gets money from Wal-Mart every quarter for all of the Longhorn shirts they sell there. You can't deny it, so don't even try.

Would be nice to see the re-match of OU vs. UT again. Probably would be the most exciting National Championship matchup ever considering the Big XII being the most competitive conference, most hated out of state rivals and toughest opponents in the country.

Great season for all three teams: OU UT TTU. Sux it had to be decided by the Tradition, Prestige, Politics, Money and Control of Power that is the BCS.

OU FANS/ALUMNI: You got your wish. Now win the big one, And don't choke like the last couple of BCS Games: WVU, Boise st, USC and LSU...Good Luck!

TEXAS FANS/ALUMNI: Sorry your snuffed out of the BCS National Championship talk at the moment, But look on the bright side. You will still see your Horns in a BCS Bowl game which isn't as good as the NC, but it's gotta be better than the Cotton Bowl...Right?

TECH FANS/ALUMNI: I feel your pain.

Ou is just better said...

Anon 8:16 - you've listed 1 fact and 3 opinions...
texas beat ou, but far from soundly. it was much closer than the final 10 pt margin.
OU won on the road against Okie St by 20 pts, texas beat them in austin by just 4.
Tech eeking out a win vs baylor brings into question why texas lost to them in a game tech dominated everywhere but the scoreboard.

I'm not affiliated with any of the 3 schools, but here is why OU is deserving of being the Big 12 south champion:

Best non-conf strength of schedule - OU
Only Big 12 road win vs a ranked team - OU
Best point differential in the 3 games - OU

How can anyone argue that OU is not the best team in the Big 12 south right NOW out of the 3. Yeah 2 months ago they lost a close game to texas and I understand the texas argument of we won head to head, but its not valid in a 3-way tie or Tech could claim they top billing for beating texas. If texas and Ou lined up now and played, every texas fan would be worried as OU right now is playing better than any team in the country. Doesn't it make sense that the team that should go play in the champ. game is the best team right now at the end of the season and not the best team in early October? Yes the whole season should and does matter but this texas team right now gets thumped by fla, ala, ou or usc. Just ask the next best 2 teams in the big 12, tech and okie st, both said OU was a better team. Like it or not, like the system or not, OU is going to play missouri, and thats the way it should be.

8:16, how does winning by 10 equate to "soundly" winning, while winning by 20 is "barely" winning???

anon 8:43

in regard to the SEC tiebreaker for a 3-team tie, thats not even close to the rule... their tie-breaker rule in this same scenario is to drop the lowest rated team (via BcS) rankings and then break the 2-way tie via head to head. I dont see how that is any better as its still voters/comps determining who is dropped out as the lowest ranked and as we saw with the voting today, thats easily manipulated.

Here's somethin I was just thinkin about a little earlier:

If you could transplant ear hair to bald spots, you'd never be bald again but you'd have to get haircuts like twice a week.

That stuff grows fast as hell.

For all you people who are claiming that USC or the other SEC teams are better than Texas, get a grip.

Anonymous said...

Why can't some other bowl schedule Texas against USC and call THAT the "alternative national championship game?"

Anonymous said...

Poor ol spittin Mack.

Anonymous said...

Hey OU is just better,

Tech scored 21 unanswered points against Baylor and that was with Crabtree out and Harrell hurt.

Anonymous said...

8:16 So, Texas beating OU by 10 at a neutral site is described as " winning soundly", but OU beating OSU by 20 in Stillwater is described as "barely winning." What alternate universe are you living in? Oh, I know, the Longhorn, whiney Mack Brown universe. Even all of his campaigning last week didn't convince the college football world that his team deserved it. Sorry.

Anonymous said...

Yes Texas Tech got an ugly backyard butt whipping by OU which makes be believe OU should be #1, Alabama #2, and so on. But seriously believe Texas Tech should be in front of Texas since they beat them. And you're probably saying, "Well Texas beat OU" yes they did......at the beginning of the season. Right now OU is a machine and can definitely complete in the Big 12 Championship and possible for the national title. UT will lose their bowl game, and I think Texas Tech will do so as well. Both teams are not playing like they were earlier in the season.

Anonymous said...

Actually, 9:18, all but one of the human polls agreed with Mack Brown, it was the computers who did not.

I guess he needs to learn to speak computer.

11:37. Only voters in 1 of the 2 human polls used in the BCS formula fell for Mack Brown's whining campaign. Therefore 2 out of the 3 BCS elements put OU ahead of Texas.

11:56. You are a perfect example of why everyone thinks that UT fans are rude and have no class. And if you didn't care about the Big 12 Championship you wouldn't be on this blog with your obnoxious comments.

OU is famous for blowing opportunities in big games, so maybe you'll still get your chance at the MNC. However, when it comes down to the other co-champs of the Big 12 South (Tech & Texas) will you be pushing for a head-to-head comparison then? Probably not.

How about this for far out thinking.
Draw an imaginary line from N.Dakota to Galveston. Everyone on the right is Eastern and everybody on the right is Western>(How cool is that?)
Then, bracket each conference and get a Conference championship by virtue of wins...(kinda out in left field like the NFL). Then, each conference champion plad playoff games and move up the bracket to the Eastern Championship and Western championship...or National Championship Game.
Played in Kansas.

How far out is that.....damn.....win a title by virtue of who really is the best team.......on the field.....no computers, biased voting or money involved.

Is that like..."Can man ever walk on the moon?"
