Don't get drunk and play with guns.
The details are sketchy, but the Star Telegram is reporting that this 17 year old girl was arrested this morning for manslaughter. The only thing that tells me is that the cops believe, at this point, that she didn't intend to kill anyone but that she did something incredibly stupid that caused the death of another.
That's the face of a scared little girl.

Her we go! The gun control nuts will now point out how some more laws will fix this terrible tragedy.
First, it's not even a tragedy. Shit happens. The world is not running out of dumb teenagers.
Second, it has nothing to do with guns, period. It all goes back to bad parenting, and judging from the percentage of overweight, lazy, ill adjusted kids we seem to be raising, bad parenting is still legal.
The sad thing(about the punishment/yes the death was the saddest part) is this girl is going to probably be jailed as a convicted felon over a stupid, tragic accident. I agree that there needs to be some punishment, but this is a clear case where you are only ruining more lives by entering this girl into the criminal justice system. This girl will be punished for the remainder of her life by the guilt and remorse of her actions on that fateful day. To the victim rights people...do not jump on me here, if this was an intentional killing I would support a punishment to the fullest extent of the law. This case will have a different dynamic to it and I feel her punishment has already begun.
First ... "it's not even a tragedy" ... 11:45, WHAT ARE YOU THINKING??? Jesus, if you love your gun more than you love kids, you need therapy.
Second ... "that's the face of a scared little girl"??? Sorry, Barry, but I don't detect any emotion from that picture.
Third, devil ... so this is a "stupid, tragic accident"??? Have you got more facts than were in the article?? I agree, reading between the lines it SOUNDS like it was LIKELY some stupid kid stuff, but why don't we all hold off on judgment calls about this case until some more facts are in. At this point, for all we know there could have been some kind of argument involved. All we really know right now is that a 14 year-old girl sneaked out of her house and got herself killed.
And - for the record - that IS a "tragedy."
I absolutely agree with anonyNOTHING and 11:45 regarding "bad parenting" and the devil regarding the unfairness of the punishment to Diana Womack.
HORRIBLE parenting of the parents of the underage drinkers as well as NEGLIGENCE of the gun owner for failing to ADEQUATELY secure their weapon.
The person who failed to secure their weapon is MOST at fault and should bear the brunt of ANY punishment. If it had NOT been for the NEGLIGENCE of the ADULT gun owner the 14 year old would NOT have been shot and killed.
Incidentally, WHAT is the difference between a 17 year old girl ACCIDENTALLY shooting and killing a 14 year old girl and a 17 year old girl who was driving an auto and runs a stop sign and kills another 17 year old motorist? One is named Diana Womack and is charged with manslaughter and the other NEVER so much as received a citation and was named Laura Welch currently named Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States of America.
2:03...I agree I was projecting a bit; my campaign to include built in disclaimers within my posts has failed. The end of my first sentence should have read, "if in fact this was just a stupid, tragic accident".
Handling a loaded gun when you're drunk is NOT an accident. I knew not to handle guns since before I could walk or talk. At 17, I damn sure knew not to play with guns, especially while drinking. If you can't lock people up just for being stupid, then it's a good thing they can get locked up for their stupid actions. One less idiot out in society. Oh gee, I think I'll go cry now.
Hey MZGUIDED, one was a drunk female with a loaded gun and the other was a careless female with a car. A female (drunk or not) with a gun has to be one of the scariest things on earth.
Plus life is full of injustices, deal with it!
Annie The Joke....Drinking reduces your inhabitions, thus leading to poor decision making! I am sure she would take back her stupid actions if she could. Since she was probably not an experienced drinker, and most likely did not have your experience level with firearms, I have difficulty seeing how jailing her would be a just punishment. All 17 year olds are idiots, but we cannnot lock them all up. If you say you are experienced with guns then you should know that securing your guns so they do not fall into the wrong hands is imperical. This is one of the main responsiblities that comes with gun ownership! Mzchief has it exactly right that the burden of guilt should be placed on the gun's owner. In this case this girl was really no different than the gun itself...the gun owner might as well have pulled the trigger!
Uh, she is a lilly white female. She'll get a slap on the wrist.
They should change the charge to what it really is: girlslaughter.
And I rarely do this to MzCreep, but kudos for this one:
"One is named Diana Womack and is charged with manslaughter and the other NEVER so much as received a citation and was named Laura Welch currently named Laura Bush, First Lady of the United States of America."
Love, Anonynothing whatever
I don't see anywhere in the story where it says that an unsecured gun was taken from an adult, so I'm not jumping to any conclusions there. It's not like a 17 year old can't illegally get a hold of a gun just as easily as they can illegally get a hold of alkeehawl. If I get drunk tonight and crash my car into a family of 4, I'll feel sorry for my actions tomorrow. Does that make it better? I don't buy the bullshit that all 17 year olds are idiots. At 17, you KNOW it's not a good idea to drink and wave a gun around. And I don't immediately blame all parents for everything wrong with the world today.
By the way, devil, I always thought you should have won that fiddle contest down in Georgia.

One girl, Laura Welch was wielding a 6,000+ pound deadly weapon (annually 40,000+ people are killed in auto accidents in the U.S.) while she BROKE the law and ran a STOP sign and killed a 17 year old motorist.
The other girl, Diana Womack was wielding a 16oz+ deadly weapon (annually 800+ people are accidentally killed with handguns in the U.S. of which approx. 350 are nonadults) while BREAKING the law by engaging in underage drinking and killed a 14 year old engaged in underage drinking.
MY opinion is that BOTH events are YOUTHFUL ERRORS OF JUDGEMENT resulting in the TRAGIC death of someone's child.
CLEARLY, I understand the situation as well as YOUR position that because one girl makes the irresponsible CHOICE to DRINK and handle a firearm causing the death of another youth is FAR worse than the irresponsible CHOICE of not paying proper attention while driving and causing the death of another youth.
My understanding YOUR position does NOTHING to improve MY opinion of YOU thus PROVING I am NOT "mzguided."
Vehicles are used everyday by the majority of citizens. They are a necessity of life. Guns are not. One handles a gun for the "power" sensation. Talk to any shrink for that lecture. One knows when holding a gun, they hold life and death. Vehicles are NOT in the same category! Mzchief, for you to try to compare these two incidents is stupid. Apples and Oranges!
I read somewhere that: Guns don't kill people! It just makes it a hell of a lot easier.
larry the cable guy said:'if guns kill people, my pencil made me flunk math .'
To anonyNOTHING 8:04...
If you are NOT aware of the FACT that EVERY time you drive/ride in an auto you are risking your life and the lives of EVERYONE else on the road you have NOT been paying attention.
United States statistics indicate that 40,000+ people die EACH year in auto accidents 1/2 of which are alcohol related.
Each year 26,000+ people are killed by handguns in the United States. The TRULY horrible fact of that statistic is that 16,000+ (MORE than 50%) are SUICIDES.
Personal statistics...I have had THREE people in my life killed in auto accidents. I have known one person who committed suicide and they used a gun. I have NEVER had ANYONE I personally know or know through an acquaintance murdered with a handgun. I have personally known one person who was murdered and they were 10 and stabbed to death by their mother's ex-boyfriend/dealer while having a weekend visit with their mother (Truly tragic tale. I knew the father who divorced the druggy mum but still had to force their child to participate in weekend visits to the mum's even though it was unsafe.)
Thus, according to NATIONAL statistics and my PERSONAL experience, AUTOS are bloody DEADLY a fact of which MOST people are PAINFULLY aware.
CLEARLY, both guns and autos are DEADLY and no doubt acting irresponsibly around EITHER can result in someone's DEATH.
I would first like to say i'm apart of the girls family that was shot an you guys really need to shut the hell up if you dont know the whole story if this was so accidental then why did the gun never get found there is way more to the story then what you hear in the news or papers. An goes for you saying bad parenting you can go to hell on that note name one kid that hasent snuck around there parents back an did something they wearnt suppose too... Really now you should take all your bullshit answer an shove them right up your guys asses.... It simply was her being at the wrong place at the wrong time. If you dont know what really went on i think you all should shut your mouths!
