Today's Update mentions that the city of Rhome is considering requiring all new employees to undergo a polygraph.
Say what? There certainly is no widespread acceptance as to whether the machines are scientically reliable. (They still aren't admissible in court). And the cost would be insane. Respected polygraphers (sounds dirty, huh?) wil charge about $500 a pop. I'm sure a better package deal could be cut than that, but you always get what to you pay for.
And who in the world would want to work for Rhome that badly?
(But now I can't get the Seinfeld episode out of my head when Jerry was hooked up to one to determine if he really didn't watch Melrose Place.)

That is the most ridiculous thing that I have heard coming out of Rhome yet. For one thing, the testing is VERY unreliable. Gee, maybe they could do a "thorough" background check. Bizarre.

Not only do they want to test all potential employees, but they want to test all potential volunteers as well? Somehow "Bat arse crazy" does not convey the magnitude of ineptness that is occuring in Rhome.
"Scientically" reliable? Does that mean the test is inconclusive unless someone in a lab coat rubs a big feather under your chin to make you laugh the whole time?
I'd like to try that pleasemograph thing but be sure there's lots of paper in it.
Again, Rhome is the laughing stock of the county.
You'd think they would work on other areas of the city such as trying not to look like Newark.
If the council member(female)would concentrate on other items, then maybe other things could get done.

Aside from the cost and the accuracy issue, I'm curious to know exactly what questions they intend to ask.
What can you ask a job applicant on a polygraph that you can't verify through other means? Criminal record and credit history are both easily verifiable (though with respect to the latter, I'm not sure how relevant it is to most jobs).
Are they going to ask a clerk or secretary whether they've ever cheated on their income tax? If they've ever committed a crime that they weren't caught for? Cheated on their spouse? Engaged in sodomy?
The point being, a lot of questions you might ask (that can't otherwise be verified) would appear to be highly inappropriate, especially given the actual jobs involved. I mean, I can understand why the CIA or FBI might need polygraphs for job applicants. Certain jobs involve the worker having access to very sensitive information, and you want to make sure that the worker will not be a target for potential blackmail, etc.
Do people like this ever give any thought to what they do or say? Someone needs to suggest that the city council members themselves submit to a polygraph examination. I'll volunteer to come up with the questions.
She needs to crawl back under her rock. The council needs to focus on building Rhome instead of trying to destoy it. Rhome is always going to have a black eye if she is allowed to continue with this type of crap. Rhome has alot more important things they could be spending time on.
It APPEARS as though Rhome is a wee bit ENVIOUS of Newark's reputation and will spare no expense to one-up Newark.

Ha Ha! Rhome never ceases to amaze me. They kinda of remind me of Reno 911 but with a bunch of redneck idiots. I hope they never change because it is hilarious and where else can you get this quality of free entertainment!
Most larger municipalities make you pass one as well, especially employees in the public safety sector. ie, fire/police/ems.

what is wrong with this woman??does she not think that there are more important things to be done to make this a better place to live than give lie detector tests to rhome employees?? if this be the case, SHE should be the 1st one to take it!! who does she think is going to pay for it?? if this is what she wants....let her foot the bill!! the women that belong to the womens club need to look out...they will be the next ones on her agenda to take this test!! what a doo doo!!
What is the incident that prompted this reaction? Someone must have been caught doing something for such a drastic measure to be taken.
