This little girl was on The Today Show this morning for this reason: She has had a violent case of the hiccups for three weeks and they won't go away. All I had time for was to see the "teases" to the segment and there she sat, hiccupping in the most painful of ways.
It was one of the saddest things I've ever seen. (Ok, maybe an overstatement, but it was pretty sad.)
NBC has the video up on its website (and is surprisingly fast loading.)

If I remember correctly, the Guinness record for longest case of hiccups was something on the order of years. The person finally got rid of them by committing suicide.
Sadly, we don't have a pill for that. I hope she's tried everything in the book. Me? I usually bend myself over backwards on a chair, or the bed, do deep breathing, get in touch with myself, get to know my diaphragm, and they go away. It's much harder to do if I drank too much tequila, with lime and salt, straight up though. Anybody know what I mean?
Sometimes, a large spoonful of sugar works quite well.
I haven't had hiccups in a long while. Yeah!
ROFLMFAO!!!!
Actually bending over a chair while having sex cleared my problem right up.
She's faking for attention.
Many years ago, in the 50s, my high school principal's son died as a result of having hiccups for several months. I believed they weakened his heart. Very sad.
Hopefully without an G & L .....er per shew
