The Ticket was discussing the 40th anniversary of the UT Tower shootings (and, man, the new issue of
Texas Monthly sounds fascinating), and they mentioned that the ambulances involved in the case were
run by funeral homes.
You know, as a boy in Bridgeport, I remember Hawkins funeral home being dispatched to traffic accidents.
I had forgotten that odd bit of history.

This is fascinating. So..... did funeral homes arrive in a hearse to the accident scene or an ambulance? What about medical attention, was that provided by the funeral home also?
Christian Funeral Home in Decatur used to run the ambulance, also. It was an ambulance, and they would take the victims to the local hospital.
They used to deliver milk to your door and you had to put your finger in a hole to dial your phone.
