First Amendment vs. Police Protection Of Gay Rights Parade In Fort Worth: Who Ya Got?

This opinion was handed down this morning from the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.

I'll be honest: I haven't read it yet but that first sentence indicates this is going to be good legal stuff. "Skirmish line?"

(Side note: Every Wednesday morning I look at the opinions handed down by that court.)

As a non-fascist, this phrase frightens me a bit:

"the Fort Worth Police Department assigned several teams of police officers from the Zero Tolerance Unit as tactical response to control the crowd, maintain peace, and handle any physical altercations that might occur."

WTF is a "Zero Tolerance Unit"?? What is FWPD zero tolerating, and how much of it is there that they need several teams?

it's just one of many steps taken over the years.

might want to keep your boots nearby

The Zero Tolerance team is the team that they call when there is no tolerance for those who are intolerant of those who wish for tolerance but also have no tolerance for the intolerance of other's. Clearly this is a zero tolerance situation.

As a matter of principal, and self preservation, I tend to avoid any event involving homosexual behavior and "skirmish lines"!

Gay and rights should never be used in the same story.
