I had forgotten that one of the lawyers killed in the Fort Worth courthouse shooting in 1992 was named John Edwards. (A name now associated when a disgraced politician).
- I was in another courthouse two blocks away when that happened.
- Most of the animals sold at auction at the Wise County Youth Fair were purchased by a group(s) called "Wise County Youth Fair Champions and Blue Ribbons Club." Who are they? And the fact that local banks no longer are big spenders at the auction is a definite sign of the times.
- Yep, Baylor lost to Duke in the Elite 6. Oddly, the Baylor women play Duke tonight in the women's Elite 8.
- I can't believe Tarleton State cratered and canceled the gay Jesus play.
- If you haven't seen it you won't understand, but there is nothing nerdier that Steve Doocey saying the "morning slogan" on Fox and Friends at the top of the 6 o'clock hour.
- Somebody is mad at me for not posting a comment about a rumor the private life of a particular public official but won't sign their name. Riiiight.
- I scalped my lawn this weekend. For some reason I really enjoy doing that every Spring.
- You are one strange bird if you won't return the census form.
- Kelly Rasberry on KISS FM this morning called The Grapes of Wrath and 12 Angry Men "boring."
- I stayed up too late on Saturday.
- I watched a great 10 year old documentary this weekend regarding the killing of three kids in Arkansas (the specific one was Paradise Lost 2: Revelations.) I keep seeing that case resurface in the news.

The Champions Blue Ribbon club is another form of socialism and control. If they would just let people bid on stuff without them feeling like that have stepped on someones toes then the auction would draw more money, but too many companies are afraid to bid on a item for fear of being approached and asked why they bought it cause the "Champions Club" was suppose to.
Census defiers are baffling. Any business with whom you do business on credit has more information on file about you than what you provide in the census form. And they trade that info to other companies, and that info can be compromised. The gov't, by law, is required to keep your census info confidential, even from other federal agencies. Your information isn't linked to your name. Think about it - if they could match your name against birth certificates, wouldn't there be a huge immigration sweep of non-citizens? Or of houses that didn't return the form?
Oh you just wait, there is more to come on that 2010 Wise County Youth Fair??????

Tarleton was faced with protestors on Saturday because one student chose a play to direct to make a political statement! The Jesus character performs a same sex marriage. I've been to plays when the theatre opened because of generous donations from alumni. Does anything go under "freedom of speech". Not when you mess with the Bible in a very conservative community!

Actually Barry, there were four local banks that were members of the Champions and Blue Ribbon Club this year - Legend, North Texas, First State and DATCU. In addition to the $60,000 plus paid for champion and reserve champion projects (from steers to rabbits, to ag mechanics to cakes and pies) the club gave $43,200 to the seven buyers associations and another $2000 for premiums at the heifer show. There were 35 members of the club this year -

I wonder why they even have an auction. Why don't they just have a parade of items and say who bought what and how much. All sale prices are predetermined by the Champions Club and Buyers Association before the auction ever starts, so they could cut the event about 3 hours short and just parade the things through the ring.

I agree...to All those that support the kids at the WCYF....Thank you! We (as parents and grandparents) do notice and we appreciate it very much! I will always try to do business with the people that support our young people. Great job this year as always...to all the folks that help put it together, Thanks for a wonderful time and the special memories!
to 11:53--I remain anonymous for a reason but it is nice to read a "thank you" (I was one of MANY who had a hand in the success of the week--a VERY small hand!!) It's nice to know that someone notices that the WCYF doesn't happen on it's own! The reason I do what I do: The kids. Years ago, someone gave time for me, and not as long ago, for my own kids. Now it's my turn to give back! The week was a success and I'll be back next year!

It doesn't help and can potentially damage your lawn, especially in areas where the turf gets scalped to the soil because of a small hole or swale. It also causes unnecessary wear and tear on your mower.
If it makes you feel better to mow it, then cut it, but there's no reason to scalp it.

Has anyone else heard about judges being paid off to pick certain people's animals at the Youth Fair? Supposedly, it happens every year, but this year must have been very obvious.

Unless there is a video from behind closed doors, I would seriously doubt that the "payment" is on film. BUT - the excuses made by the judge to justify the selection -is on film - as well as the poor condition that the animal was in. Now - find out where the animal came from and you will have all the answers you need. Debt owed - sale made. And the tradition continues!

Guess what, I pay school taxes, so it is MY BUSINESS. Guess what, my taxes help pay for those employees to print what I ask for on a Open Records. Guess what, I haven't judged anybody.
