The girl gets naked in public back in March and nobody cares. So now the City of Dallas decides to prosecute her for Disorderly Conduct which carries the stiff penalty of ... wait for it ... a $500 fine.
Dear Ms. Badu, please demand a jury trial and send out as many press releases as you can as the trial date approaches. It's publicity gold.
And, girl, I'll represent you for free. Seriously. Like I said, it's publicity gold.

The mother of a child filed a complaint. Not the "state that has too much time" but someone that was offended, as I would have been if I'd been there with my 10 year old.
The "state" has too much time, counselor? Isn't the City of Dallas bringing the action?
And what would you prefer they do?
Look the other way and allow just anyone who wishes to to create a public (pubic?) nuisance in order to create their 'jumping the shark' moment?
Come on, you're smarter than that.
Aren't you?
Perhaps a man will strip naked and approach small children in the toy aisles in the Decatur Wal Mart tomorrow in the name of art. Of course that's a private place, so not quite the same. Ok, maybe he'll course through a public place, such as an elementary school hallway on Monday. Not bothering anyone or even saying anything, mind you. Not hurting a flea. Just expressing himself. Basically doing exactly the same thing as this lady did in Dallas....it's all good, clean "nobody cares" and nobody gets hurt publicity gold, right?
Why wait 2 weeks and complain only after the story hit the news? If she was truely offeneded and not looking for her 15 mins then she would have complained that day!
Im the mother of a 11 yrs old boy, and if anyone would of done that in front of my son i would be pissed...but I feel like this is all because of who it was and all they seen was $$$$$. Im sorry but kids see people do crazy things all the time and see it on every t.v. channel they watch..If it was a normal person would the same action of been taken? i doubt it..
So, it is ok to get naked anywhere in public, in front of kids, whatever?
How about pervs going naked in a preschool?
Wow. I see anarchy.
Not that I disagree with you, but by saying "back in March" on April 2 is trying to sugarcoat things, no?
I am just still in shock that you had never heard of EB before this. Where the gold @?
I don't agree with what happened at all, however I agree that the mother waited to long to say she was offended.
Grow up people, seriously talking all the trash just makes all yall weak.
John
Perhaps it wasn't until the video became popular that anyone knew who the perpetrator was.
I know the legal profession isn't the most respected to begin with, but pretending to offer your services as a publicity getter doesn't seem too well thought out.
Like you, I attended NTSU, degree in marketing. Took some business law classes.
Unlike you, I think that both Ms. Badu and whatever grandstander that chooses to represent her will look like perfect idiots in the court of public opinion, not to mention an actual courtroom, should they continue to spin this as some sort of cause célèbre.
I am not aware of any enshrined right to public nudity with a film crew in tow, whether in the Constitution or natural law, that will resonate with a majority of the populace. I do believe, however, that most will see this for exactly what it is - a publicity stunt that constituted a nuisance in Dealey Plaza.
Nonetheless, should you get the gig, let us know how that works out for you.
Lighten up, chill, loosen your butt cheeks, 4:07!
Most agree that the publicity for this performer is worth much more than the $500 fine. I guess I don't know what the legal defense would be so don't know how you could get her off. She doesn't expect to be exonerated but just get even more publicity. I see lots of wins for her, lots of trouble for the "state" in prosecution.
Erykah Badu is just another pseudo-celebrity, attention whore, in an ever growing line, making a desperate attempt to be relevant. Erykah Badu is nothing more than a dusky, fleshier version of Sean Penn.
More than likely, Badu's attorney will mount a defense based on a claim of "freedom of speech" while making art. It has been successfully argued that government does not have the right to determine what is "obscene" when it comes to "art." We, as a people, have the freedom of speech but not the freedom from being offended.
If people are truly offended by the antics of attention whore, celebritards, I highly suggest, people who are offended, refuse to patronize the work product of the offending celebritard. I will NEVER pay to view a project that involves Sean Penn, Michael Moore, Susan Sarandon, Bill Maher, Jennin Garofolo, Tim Robbins, Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, Glen Beck, Ann Colter and any other members of their hate spewing ilk.
If she had squatted and peed while this filming was taking place in this public area, would that also be considered "freedom of speech/expression?" What if she pulled a gun and began to shoot it into the air several times (with live ammo)...isn't that also considered freedom of expression? I guess she could meet up with some guy/gal and begin to have sex right there on the public street... I KNOW that is freedom of expression. So, hey, it's all good, right?
I'm surprised at your ignorance, Barry. Good grief!
ever seen a grown man naked?
mzchief - While not defending any of the others -- contrary to popular opinion, I don't listen to much talk radio -- I will say that I have listened to Rush Limbaugh off and on over the years and have never, ever heard him "spew hate" or anything remotely like it. Matt Towery had the best description: "...anyone who listens to his show knows that Limbaugh plays the role of pompous ringmaster, but in jest. After five minutes it is clear that he is not a hatemonger."

I have not listened to Limbaugh since Clinton was POTUS. One of the most hateful things I recall Limbaugh saying was calling, 13 year old, Chelsea Clinton a "dog" for merely failing to meet Limbaugh's ideal of what is a pretty girl. Having been a girl with long, unruly, über curly hair who went through an unfortunately awkward phase as a teenager, I felt badly for Chelsea, who did not have a radio show to counter the malicious attack of a cigar puffing, balding, fat man.
Limbaugh, seemingly, reveled in the marital woes of Bill and Hillary Clinton. By anyone's standards, that type of schadenfreude is hateful.
I agree, Limbaugh is an entertainer but that does not preclude his being a hateful, rat-bastard equal to that of David Letterman.
mzchief - I had not heard the story about Chelsea Clinton, so I researched it a bit. The claim was made by Al Franken in his book, and by Molly Ivins in a column (and repeated endlessly throughout the Liberal echo chamber.) The most often repeated claim was that it was on an episode of his early-90s TV show. No clips verifying the claim have turned up in any of my searches. However, one person turned up a transcript of the incident via Lexis-Nexis. As he says, "The tale grew in the telling a little bit." (Another account, giving a bit more context, is available here.) So I don't know if the rumor is busted or not, but if the incident had actually happened the way they claim, Liberals would have video of it online somewhere. They're very resourceful when it comes to such things.

I heard Limbaugh, the day after Clinton's inauguration, say that the Clintons would not need to get a "White House dog" since they have Chelsea. Limbaugh also commented that Chelsea looked "horrible" and "they should have done something with her hair." Limbaugh made his comment in reference to the Bushes and Milly greeting and welcoming Bill, Hillary and Chelsea to the White House. I remember the hateful comments due to the inappropriateness of a fat, balding old man making mean comments about the appearance of a young girl/child. I also get a sense of satisfaction from the fact that Chelsea has grown into a lovely young woman who has done quite well for herself without ever being photographed falling down drunk or removing her panties in public and flashing her girl parts.
Video of Bushes greeting Clintons
Without doubting the trustworthiness of your memory, I'll only say that yours is the only such version of the account that I've been able to find.
She is scum. Feel sorry that some part of our society feels her actions are acceptable at any level!

I did manage to find this account, by the Washington Post, of Limbaugh referencing Chelsea as the "White House Dog" on his television program. If you look more closely at the link you provided of the Democrat Underground you will note that a commentor with the alias "eleny" stated, "Maybe he said it a number of times on radio as well as his old tv program. But I recall hearing it while driving and changing the channel in disgust." Obviously, I am not the only person to have heard and remembered Limbaugh referred to Chelsea as a "dog" and expressly the "White House dog."
Mzchief, what did you call Rush?
Where did you learn about God?
