Random Monday Morning Thoughts

  • Sometimes I can't decide which picture to post.
  • You wouldn't think an anteater could survive eating just ants. That would take a lot of ants.
  • I mentioned a couple of months ago that I had heard that the State had screwed up the appeal of the judge's decision to suppress the blood results in Tarrant County district judge Elizabeth Berry's DWI case. I completely missed last week that I was right.
  • You had to see it appreciate it, but I was watching one of the couples of the show 16 and Pregnant being interviewed. The child suffered from some type of condition (I don't remember what it was called) but my jaw dropped when the mother started crying as she said, "I'm sad because when he gets old enough to go to a party that he won't be able to drink like his friends."
  • The person next to me yelled at the screen, "Hey, you aren't even old enough to drink!"
  • The ceremonial stage of Tour de France (the last phase wihich is pretty much a parade) is 101 miles. I rode 40 miles once and almost died.
  • I watched Gran Torino while on vacation. It wasn't as bad as I thought it would be (the "Get off my lawn" line by Clint Eastwod in the previews made my head explode), but the script was extremely corny and cliched. Great concept. Poorly executed.
  • But not as bad as Eastwood''s "Million Dollar Baby." (Which I still despise to this day.)
  • Before I forget: The worst movie ever is "Death To Smoochy" (which has been showing up on the movie channels again.)
  • Sarah Palin gave her farewell speech yesterday. She might be crazy. “With this decision, now, I will be able to fight even harder for you, for what is right, and for truth." What the heck does that mean?
  • Obscure song I like: XTC's "Mayor Of Simpleton."
  • Obscure note: The "Fans Insider" column by David Thomas in the Sunday Star-Telegram has the worst jokes. Ever.
  • Motorcycle death over the weekend.
  • When I linked to the youtube video of the fantastic wedding entrance last week, the number of views was listed at around 80,000. On Sunday night, it was up to 7.5 million. (Just to let you that we were one of the first group of people to view it.)
  • With little fanfare, ESPN2 broadcast a soccer game from the new Cowboys' stadium last night. I guess it's the first television broadcast from the stadium ever (I TIVO'd it because I knew I'd forget about it but I could only stick with a soccer game for about five minutes.)
  • Something called "Comic Con" happened over the weekend. I'm not sure what it was, but it sure was all over the Internets.
  • WBAP's Mark Davis wrote in the Morning News that "the American health care system the envy of the world." A lot people call many things American "the best in the world" when they really haven't seen much of the world.
  • And Gov. Perry spoke again of "states rights" the other day suggesting Texas might refuse to be part of any national health care plan. I know what he means, but he sounds like a nutcase when he makes those statements.
  • And I agree with him from a Libertarian point of view, but I've given up any hope of seeing that form of government a long time ago.
  • I have a hard time going to a movie unless it's at a Movie Grill.
  • I watered my front lawn all night on Saturday. Unintentionally.
  • Obama always mentions "having a beer" with someone to resolve a conflict. I'd like to see a picture of that.

I was eating at a bbq joint last Sunday (July 19) and noticed a soccer game on the television, I don't recall the channel, but the announcers were speaking the Spanish. I didn't give it much attention until I noticed the game was in the new Cowboys Stadium, then I was sucked in with the great sight lines and the feel that the crowd was actually close to the field. So I think the first televised event for the new stadium was brought to the public by a Spanish speaking television station.

Why doesn't Perry raise some concerns about property taxes! I love the great state of Texas, but they are raping us on property taxes. If property owners didn't have ridiculous property taxes to pay every year, they could afford health insurance. Plus he looks like Tommy Lee Jones aka. Jim Jones the kool aid man

We go nuts when the President makes a "remark". Rick Perry is no different. His mouth is out of control.

Perry IS a nutcase. He should stay locked up inside his rental house and enjoy the luxury that WE are paying for and continue the overseas trips that WE pay for.

I sincerely hope KBH defeats him in the primaries.

Perry is an embarrassment to Texas!

Obama saying "having a beer" sounds so much better than Obama saying "we can hang out on the front porch and drink a couple of 40s".......

That Harvard education was good for something.

Governor Perry is NOT a nutcase for refusing to be a part of national health care reform. Arizona has already passed legislation to refuse care. Arizona understands what will happen when public health care opens to illegals crossing over the border. Texas, another border state, will have no choice but to refuse, not only because of expanding public health care to illegals, but the impact on Texans over 65 years that depend on Medicare.

Anyone who understands the impact of adding millions and paying for it by cutting costs, can figure out someone is not going to get health care. Many Texas doctors will just turn off the lights and go home before they will allow big government to dictate mandatory consultations on who lives or dies.

Rick Perry is tuned into what most people are thinking about their health care, especially those who are over 65 or getting close to it.

Health care can be reformed but little by little by overseeing fraud and abuse by the small minority and insurance companies who are responsible for high health care costs. Also, tort reform is needed.

I guess your lawn looks pretty good now after that watering.

KBH is the most selfish politican in the history of Texas. How in the wide world of sports can she justify (or even help Texas) by giving up her seniority in the Senate and subjecting Texas to a Democrat taking that spot. Is that doing the right thing for the state. Nope, not even close.

I am not a huge Perry fan, and agree that his state rights comments are, at best grandstanding. BUT, he has worked through his party, getting elected to better offices for decades, while KBH has been in DC in an ever deminishing role in her party. As a conservative, give me Perry as gov and leave KBH in DC.

What bag of nothing as Governor will she pitch. What path away from obama is she paving for us now from DC, nada. She should focus on doing a quality job in the senate or go home.

Anonymous said...

Just FYI...The bottom picture is a thousand times better. Gives you the thought that they might actually go home and try that!!!

8:38 - maybe he isn't a nutcase on health care, but wanting Texas to leave the United States? Remember that outburst?

Also, what of his excessive use of taxpayer money..... Living in that expensive rental house? Come on. A tight Republican who takes care of Texas? Oh sure, and he takes pretty dang good care of himself too.

He is a narcissistic spendthrift.

Barry, care to elaborate on the meaning of the women on the car?

Anonymous said...

That "having a beer" with someone comment powers me down every time I hear it. That's just his way of thinking he's connecting with Joe six-pack American. As if any problem can be hammered out, if only the parties involved could sit down, sip a beer, and talk it over.
The problems he wants to solve by "having a beer" all carry with them a right-vs-left (sometimes black-vs-white) in which the parties are usually diametrically opposed. Those discussions usually result in a fistfight when drinking is involved

Whenever someone mentions anteaters, I always think of (besides the obvious crude joke) the old Pink Panther cartoons that had the anteater with the Jackie Mason voice. Okay, maybe it was an aardvark, but they both eat ants. So sue me, already! Meshuggener

That's a nice thought 8:56, but those gals are probably posers. The top pic has girls in bikinis. Now if only they were jumping on trampolines...

9:18 Scank, ho, white trash, the list goes on. No respectable woman would do such a thing.

Real classy president - have a beer at the White House with the players of a situation in which he should have kept his "stupid" mouth shut. We have come quite a ways from Washington, Adams, Jefferson...etc.

Anonymous said...

Wonder what brand of beer the President and his guests will be partaking of?

The gals on the car......another pic for Barry's Sunday School Class.

Obama has the makings of a great President.

Perry is one of the worst governors in the history of Texas (and that is saying something).

---This message is provided to prove to the outside world that Democrats do survive in Wise County, albeit as an endangered species; and that the light of intelligent thought remains here, albeit hidden under the collective bushel.

I liked "Million Dollar Baby", but I can't watch the end. After 'the punch', I have to turn it off.

I think what Mark Davis and others are referring to is the various stories of the personal experiences people have had and the fact that a lot of dignitaries from other countries come here for their health care.

I still don't understand the Palin bailout.

Anonymous said...

I for one am tickled that the President offered to have a beer with the officer and the professor, instead of inviting them to the white house to bust back some forties of malt liquor.

Our Governor may well be crazy, but if so, the cynic in me says he is crazy like a fox. How long has he been in office? How many serious challengers has he had? And before this spring, how much talk has he uttered about "states rights?" One plus one plus one equals three...or in this case, more voters. Health care is a serious hot button issue, especially here in Texas where we will be impacted more than in other states that do not have the influx of illegal aliens we have. By tapping into that sentiment early, Perry is making himself the champion of the State to Texas first and Republicans and Democrats second. He is banking that Texans in droves will want him to pick this fight, and he is probably right.

Easiest way to put a stop to the health care talk is to require Congress to pass legislation the says they get the same health care package they pass for the rest of us. It won't come up for conversation again. Ever.

I thought Palin's references to fighting for right and truth were fine. Of course, her speech was no "Hope and Change," but "H&C" reflects a rhetorical standard that's reached once in a lifetime. Compared to "fight for what is right, and for truth," "hope and change" is practically Shakespearian, isn't it? (And it has turned out so, so well.)

Your pic today is much too "pornish" in its implication. Have some class, fella!

Maybe Rick Perry and Todd Palin could pull Alaska and Texas from the union and form the Twonited States of North America.

I'm tired of Rick Perry. He's been in office too long and he hasn't really accomplished much.

I hope KBH gets the job.

i think niggers should be whipped for claiming racism when they are just making it up, and it makes our president look like an ignorant fool for siding with the nigger without having the facts, his ass should be bull-whipped too..!

Rick Perry is appealing to his base.....those with IQ's less than 90. Sadly he gets re-elected again and again by that base.

As native Texan, I can only hope that the migration from the north and from Mexico will somehow raise the average. Let's hope.

KBH's base is slightly more polished. But not any smarter.

Here's hoping they don't do anything to health care here in America.

My premiums increase at twice sometimes three times the rate of inflation. At this rate, I think I have about two more years before giving up food.

I get to call (some dude in India) and ask permission from my insurance company if they want to pay for what my doctor recommends.

Their recommendation is usually to choose another doctor from their little booklet informing me of all my rights and privileges.

Dear Congress, don't mess with this. This is the finest health care system in the world.

Dear Congress, you didn't ask in advance what our wars of choice would cost before you rubber stamped them. Thank God you have learned from this and are not going to approve any changes until you know exactly to the penny what it will cost.

I feel better already.

Hopefully you are sterile and only interact with unfortunate farm animals.

Pitiful.

your mind is almost as small as the commenter from 1:41 (and that's mighty small)
No Democrat has been able to unseat Perry; what does that say about the contenders you've been throwing at him?
Claiming to be smart or "enlightened", as a previous commenter did, isn't really helping your cause

And no true Texan hopes for more migration from the north

However, the blonde actually got smaller, this could be a first.

So, if you do not agree with the bigoted statement made by 1:41, you claim that person to be a "Hitler wannabe", whereas bigot 1:41 wishes he were Hitler and probably has the tat to prove his devotion.

I am only hopeful 1:41 cannot reproduce, but would lay money that is not the case.

Yawn.

That whipping thing ain't gonna happen. Instead they are just given jobs in our runaway, illogical BHO cult some still mistakenly call a government.

Your premise is, however, otherwise sound.

so what punishment should a nigger get for claiming racism every time they don't get their way ?

413 i'm not a bigot, i'm a person who has live a lot of life and knows that niggers always want something for nothing..i've seen this for nearly 50 f'n years, and i am sick to f'n death of niggers, thank you very much. the last time i checked this is a free country to express myself as i see fit..so f you if you don't like it and no i don't have any tatoos shithead..!

Anonymous said...

2:20, why is 1:41 a vile, stupid idiot, is he not entitled to his point of view. After all it's a so called "free" country. I don't understand why you berrated him for expressing his views. That's the trouble with most liberals, they scream discrimination if they are not permitted to express their views no matter how irrational they maybe, but as soon as someone says or does something they don't agree with, its time to bring in ACORN, Jesse Jackson, Cindy Sheehan, PETA, NAACP, Gay rights activists, Keith Olbermann, Bill Maher, Barry Green, or any other left nut out there. Please explain. During George W. Bush's tenure in office, I have heard and read him referred to as Nazi, Hitler, baby killer, Antichrist, redneck. These sound like racist comments to me, but they don't make national headlines. So do not criticize somebody because your beliefs may differ

Regarding something for nothing!!!

As an educator for the last 35 years in Wise Co I can tell you those on welfare, free lunch, medicaid, etc pretty much mirror our population: majority white, followed by Hispanic, with a very, very small group of African Americans.

So those blanket statments about blacks just wanting something for nothing seems not to fit here in dear old Wise.

Also as an educator all these years, I can tell you where the vast majority of our scholarships based on scores go......not to whites, but those little industrious people groups who still value education.....Asian.
Now they appreciate something....

Anonymous said...

No Democrat has been able to unseat Perry is true until you look at the Republican Party....former Democrats!

What the modern day Republican Party has proven is that one-party government, whether Democratic Texas back when, and Republicn Texas today is really not government at all......just more of the same.

Anonymous said...

Wow, you let 5:38's comment thru but my little baby-back ribs joke got the thumbs-down.

Your standards are a little ambiguous

wordkyle said...

People are judged by those with whom they associate. For example, I don't associate with people who I know have 1:41's point of view, lest I be judged to share that view. Likewise, Barack Obama can be judged by his association with, and defense of, Lewis Gates Jr., who used the term "whitey" in a written document.

From his associations with Jeremiah Wright and Lewis Gates Jr., to his choice of Sonia Sotomayor, can it be more clear that despite his rhetoric, Barack Obama tolerates, encourages and even participates in racism as long as it is directed against white people? (Have we forgotten his reference to "a typical white person?")

Micheal Savage Weiner had the best thoughts this evening on 570 AM. He said Gates was a loud mouthed smartass. Crowley was a thin skinned cop. Even though Gates was being an asshole, Crowley should have acted more professionally, and not just got pissed off and arrested Gates because Gates was verbally abusing him. According to Weenie Savage, a law enforcement professional should be above arresting Gates just because Gates pissed him off with mere words.
