Sports Tidbit

I couldn't stand Bill Parcells when he was here, and I think he's full of crap now on ESPN. But I love this tidbit today from Jason Witten found here:

When word circulated last January that Parcells was officially resigning, the coach called the tight end into his Valley Ranch office. Jason, take it from here.

“I went in there expecting some kind of sad farewell, but his message to me was that I sucked. He gave me about 15 things I needed to improve on and told me if I didn’t do them I’d always be average. I didn’t know if there’d be a hug or anything, but I didn’t see it going down like that.”

There's no doubt Parcells was great at evaluating talent - the 2007 Cowboys were drafted/acquired mostly by him. But he was way off base where Witten is concerned. It was obvious last year that he was a clutch player.
And Big Bill sucked at interpersonal skills. His inability to connect with personnel kept them from shining on the field, otherwise they would have won the division last year. Wade took basically the same team and let them play, and be themselves, without fear of incurring the wrath of the Tuna.
Last year they got into the playoffs because they feared losing; this year they may get to - and win - the SB because they want to win. Big difference!

Amen to 9:53 PM. There's a lot of difference between playing to "not lose", and playing to win. You do better mentally when you are doing the latter.

Big Bill, the man who can suck the life right out of a man and an entire team!

Truly a blessed subtraction!

Bill the Tuna may know talent but if he doesn't know how to treat them then the talent is worthless. I guess Bill was so proud of himself he never thought he needed to learn management 101. I don't care if you manage the Dollar Store, McDonalds, a Feed Store or the Dallas Cowboys, if you treat your employees like crap you will get crap in return in some form or fashion. I don't care if you are making a million dollars a year or minimum wage, if the boss treats you like dirt your performance will be dirt. It's human nature. Look at the Cowboy's now and if T.O. is being a big fake, so what, he is not the trouble maker he was last year, he's a playmaker. I'm glad Bill's fat a.. is gone. He's where he needs to be, on ESPN running his loud mouth.

Suck on my sloppy fat man boobs...just because the player has made few catches does not mean that the player has the right to be the biggest ego in the room. I orchestrated all of this and am now playing Wade Phillips on puppet strings. I always upstage my players!

Parcells considers himself "above" everyone around him. When Tuna is coach, it's ALL about Tuna. Any Cowboy head coach that refused to even do an interview with Brad Sham (Cowboy broadcaster for almost ever), is an a-hole. Tuna's desire to be closesly associated with Bobby Knight is just more evidence that he's a nutjob.

Also, let's not get too thrilled about his talent evaluation. He did bring us Testaverde, Bledsoe, and the horribly slow/white linebacker Bobby Carpenter as our 1st draft pick (you can see him on special teams...sometimes).
