That whole mess has been blown out of proportion. Skip Nichols gave the best perspective on this in his editorial in today's issue of the Messenger.
What gives me tired head is the report (also by Skip) of Phil King's visit to the local Republicans.

What stupid people don't realize is that the perception of a Racism friendly environment in Wise County will bring an eliment Wise County Doesn't want. It should be dennounced by all Leaders of this community that Racism is unacceptable and Will not be tolerated. I still haven't seen anybody do that yet. They are too busy defending D.A. Sharp. What D.A. Sharp failed to mention in his letter was that he WAS NOT A RACIST.

I was not the original exposer of Wise County’s dirty little secret, Bud Kennedy was. I did not alert Bud to the issue, someone else did and I have no idea who it was. A few years back, I did tell Bud about the wonderful burgers at Greenwood but I had no idea he was interested in the racism in Wise County. I do now though.
