Number Crunching Gives Me Tired Head

From The Update: ROBIN HOOD - Decatur Superintendent Gary Gindt said Thursday, the Decatur school system should prepare to begin paying into the Robin Hood system next year. He said the district is likely to get Chapter 41 status, meaning the district would collect more than $305,000 per student in property taxes, which would make it subject for state recapturing. From an email: By my calculations, with 2,813 students in the DISD, the budget should be a little over $857,000,000 . . . . I don't think that's accurate . . . .

Chapter 41 District – A school district with property wealth that is greater than $305,000 per weighted student is considered to be a property wealthy school. These districts are subject to the recapture provisions in the Texas school finance system. This type of district is defined in Chapter 41 of the Texas Education Code, because specific finance-related rules that apply to them are contained in that section of the Texas Education Code.

He meant to sa it's $305,000 of appraised value per student, not that amount in actual collected taxes.

Hey! It's the "Decatur Astonisher" that's doing the reporting. Kind of like them jumping on Jerry Howard because he questioned something they did, even though he votes in the DISD and PAYS TAXES in the DISD. They can't help but distort the "facts" when reporting a story. The saddest part is my kid thinks because they report it must be true.

Like I've said before, if the Messenger reports something--think of the opposite, and you'll be right more than you're wrong!!

Something to think about--all those "awards" the Messenger brags about getting--did you notice that NONE of them are related to ACCURACY? The media likes to congratulate themselves with all kinds of awards--but none are titled "The Accuracy Award"!! No wonder our modern "free" press stinks.
