My Vote For Funniest High School Kid

From the Update this morning regarding whether DHS should be an open or closed campus at lunch: DHS junior Dan Decker gave a different reason, however. “School is like a prison,” he said. “Our lunch off campus is like our hour in the yard.”

Such a different image than what the Principal tries to explain through the paper.

Now, that comment shows some good use of the educational system.

What a douche

This fine student seems well aquainted with prison routines.

Sounds like an attitude adjustment is in order. I'm sure Mrs. Reeves is proud of such an image.

She is so clueless (Reeves). I think the lunches should be closed and Reeves fired. I have only been here four years so I don't know how bad the school was, but it still has a long ways to go.

Rumor has it Reaves does not intend to be the Principal of the new high school, she intends to be the supt. of the school dist w/ the new high school, starting w/ a change in May's board election.

Some of you need to lighten up. The comment was funny and should be taken lightly. Do you all expect the students to skip around claiming to love every minute they spend in school? Nope. At least this kid uses an analogy to convey his ideas...and a good one at that. Those are on the TAKS ya know. So, it appears he's ahead of the game.

And lunch should remain off campus. It's been that way for umpteen years..why change now?

Maybe we all should "Lighten Up" alittle

Why change it?

My daughter is a senior and in her 3 1/2 years of high school at Decatur she has:

- Got caught off campus as a freshman smoking with her new upper classmen friends.
- Has been tardy to the class after lunch a dozen plus times.
- Got a speeding ticket.

She was a good student up to the time you started high school, now she is getting low C’s. Is the open lunch the problem? No, but the whole attitude of pampering to the students as long as they do well on the TAKS sucks. It is apparent from the post to the Messenger forum that most of the kids can't write worth a darn, but lets not worry about that, lets worry if they are happy.

It must be terribly discouraging to raise a good student thru 8 years then have them go goofy at the High School. I have grandchildren reaching this critical age and only hope their parents can sustain their high requirements and expectations. Apparently there is some question about the current Decatur principal, Ms. Reeves. Hope the board is critical in their superintendent considerations.

then tell your child she cant leave, good grief. did you forget you are the parent here? dont blame the school because your child smokes. grow up and learn how to raise your child and dont make others do your parenting.

Anon 11:14, Tell me you are a kid up past your bedtime. First off you write and punctuate like the current group of high school kids and second you are as clueless as them. Lets see, she went off campus as a freshman, not even allowed by the school mush less me. Speeding, that is something I've encouraged her to do. The point is kids are not mature enough to be given an hour of free time to do what ever they want. They have shown their lack of maturity in the comments they have made for keeping the lunch open. They are at school to learn. If they want an open lunch make it for the A-B honor only.
