Say you are a city worker in New York City making $27,000 a year. (Which probably doesn't go very far in New York). Let's also make you a six year employee.
Add to the equation that you occasionally play a game of Solitaire on your computer.
Add the fact that the billionaire Republican Mayor happens to see that game of Solitaire on your computer screen.
Result?
The mayor just fired your butt.

Hey BG; do you still believe that any should be allowed to be fired anytime w/wo reason? (Ref. an article in "The Muse")
People all over the country are getting fired over this issue. To suggest it has anything to do with conservatism is crazy.
Does that mean that Wise co. could get a refund for all the articles you wrote while DA? Good thing Judge Mcdonald was "caring" Democrat.
Here goes the liberal SPIN again!
I like the way Barry puts his liberal SPIN on his blog.
The improper use of company time and equipment is a very broad problem. Hey, just have your IT services dept remove all these junk games from the company equipment. There are also several programs that companies can install that track every use of their computers. I think that's appropriate (unlike NSA tracking every call or e-mail made for whatever reason). The claim that "everyone" does it, does NOT justify it.
It has nothing to do with liberals or conservatives. It has everything to do with good judgement. I certainly wouldn't fire someone on a first offense and would want to know why the employee was playing the game. I'm responsible for the overall personnel policies at our company and I know we have people playing games now and again. I just want to know if a) they are doing it during a break or for a momentary distraction and b) if it is having a negative impact on anyone else around them. In some situations, we have issued warnings and in others nothing is done. I think Bloomberg went a little over the edge.
MS put Solitare on the computers way back when Windoze (3.0 - I still have those floppies in my computer museum, along with 3.1, 3.11, Windows 95 - get the picture?) was introduced, just to get people used to the mouse - it worked - I actually installed it on computers at companies for that very reason - mouse training - guess that dates me, huh? I've also been told to take all games off company computers, because the users tend to over-utilize their theraputic values - go figure.........the guy should get his job back........wonder what the boss does at his desk all day long..........I think a lot of people have internet access at work that actually don't need it, in the business sense. I'm just glad I work for myself, and I can do what I damned well please, including wasting my time on this site!
Maybe the mayor has money bc he knows what it takes to make it, i.e discipline and hard work and not playing games while you are at work.
What makes this story really interesting is it happened in New York (Pro Employee Union State). If this happened in Texas everyone would have said .... Yeah ... SO ???
Big difference between the "Right to Work State" and Texas were you have no rights ...
Also this Mayor .. is said to be so stupid ...he wanted to know how many people it took to play a game of Solitaire :)
exactly.....Anon 1:38....simple solution
