Baptist News

I noticed that the pastor of First Baptist Dallas appears to be headed to the First Baptist of Jacksonville, Florida. I found these two tidbits interesting: (1) Under former Pastor W. A. Criswell, First Baptist became the largest congregation in the Southern Baptist Convention and at one time had 26,000 members. The church and its private school occupy six city blocks. The membership is now about 10,000, according to Associated Baptist. (2) Associated Baptist Press said the Jacksonville church has 28,000 members and covers nine blocks of the downtown area.

Is Brunson the cause of the church in Dallas going from 26,000 to 10,000 or what? And if he is I'm not so sure I would want him coming to Jacksonville, which is sitting at 28,000.

I also noticed the writer of that article was named Jim Jones. Isn't that the name of the Kool-aid suicide deal years ago? Random question.

And neither one of these companies (because that is what they are) pay taxes, why?

What is happening with Southern Baptist? Was it this past week that Rick Warren led evangicals group to take a different view on global warming?

Perhaps the time when the old guard led by Criswell and First Baptist Dallas have lost some of their appeal among people looking for something postive at church instead of negatives.

Fundamentalism certainly doesn't appeal to me.

As far as I'm concerned, Cathedral of Hope in Dallas is the best. The baptist should attend and hear positive messages.

12:24 made good points - people are tired of negative preaching, etc. in churches. Maybe this is part of the huge turnouts that the newer churches are having who have gotten rid of denominational labels.

And most have even gotten rid of the church look. If it weren't for the Christian cross, it would be hard to tell a church from a business.

Twenty eight thousand people? Course to most preachers that spells two things: "money" and "success"

I agree with anon 12:22 - the big church corporations (regardless of denomination) should all be paying taxes......any of ya'll seen the "Farting Preacher" video - Rev. Tilton from that big church in Dallas - I think that mega-mess got torn down a while back. I still have a copy of it and LMAO every time I watch it.

Have you ever noticed that whenever these preachers get the "call" to go somewhere else, its always to a bigger church, never a smaller one?

WOW! I have never seen such consistent responses! Is this one issue everyone in Wise Co can agree on? Hope. Tax responsibility. Eliminate preacher frauds. Compassion.
