The Campaign For DA

Random Tuesday Morning Thoughts

  • There was a "lock down" at Byron Nelson High yesterday because of a bomb threat? I'm no security expert, but a lock down doesn't sound like the best way to handle a bomb threat.
  • Trump fired the Attorney General last night for not enforcing his Muslim Ban Executive Order that she found to be illegal. Putting aside whether or not she has that discretion (she 100% does - an AG is not the President's private lawyer), did Trump have to go off half-cocked and fire her? Isn't the new AG going to be confirmed today or tomorrow at the latest?
  • Two horses have died during the saddle bronc events during the Fort Worth Stock Show this year. That's disturbing, isn't it?
  • With college football signing day upon us, the Washington Post went back ten years and tells us what happened to the top 100 from 2007. Hint: There are as many in prison or dead as there are who made the Pro Bowl. And Texas fans looking at the list will see how the Mack Brown era had entered the beginning of the end.
  • "And another":
  • Iran has tested a ballistic missile in defiance of U.N. Resolution. Now all of us can be nervous as we await the White House's reaction.
  • By the way, let's check in on Trump this morning:
  • (Note to Melania: I don't think your anti-cyber bullying campaign is working too well.)
  • Greg Abbott gives us the "State of the State" address this weekend. The latest Texas Monthly cover story says Dan Patrick, not Abbott, is now in charge. It will be interesting to see if Abbott goes Full Trump to try and regain that perception.

And another.

Nope. Still no Debra Lafave.

Just wondering if the media will EVER show a "neutral" Trump face/pose. Yet another way the media "cyber-bullies"--because they can. (Just check out mainstream media Obama face pictures.)

Hmmm, let's see...the Attorney General serves at the pleasure of the President. The acting AG, appointed by a man diametrically opposed to the current President, follows her old boss's philosophy and acts insubordinate by actively opposing what her new boss wants. Do you think it might be the now-fired ex AG who went off half-cocked?

So you lockdown a building that has a bomb threat instead of evacuating. Is the fire plan break out marshmallows and hot dogs?

The POTUS was right to fire the Acting AG

I understand you are a lawyer so you work for yourself. The majority of us work for a company and has a boss. If my boss told me to do something and i refused i would be fired. She needed to be fired or quit.

The Lieutenant Governor has always been legislatively in charge in Texas. That's what Texas Monthly said. But the last thing we want is those two peckerwoods battling it out for the "most in charge" award. It will not end well for Texans.

I don't care that Trump fired the AG. He has that discretion. But his rant about her "betraying" America was infantile. It's also hilarious that when people say this is unprecedented, Republicans respond with "huh-uh, Nixon did it!" as if a president trying to fire the AG who was investigating his crimes is where we should set the bar.

Sucks for the horses. Maybe they need a rule that they can't lead with the head?

Wordily claiming Iran has a missile because Obama let them in 3, 2, 1....

In Texas, the Lt. Gov. is in charge. No?

We don't know what Trump's reaction to Iran's missile launch will be but we damn sure know what Obama would have done....nothing!!!

Anonymous said...

9:51: Obama actively thwarted the Iranian ability to process nuclear material (only to have Israel blow the lid off the operation), then got Iran to give it all to us so they have no material with which to arm their missile.

So, I guess if that's "nothing" to you, then you lack a basic understanding of the world around you.

On another note, your head law enforcement lawyer saying "that's not legal" is now "insubordinate." Interesting perspective on that one.

Borrowed credibility ain't real, even in Harris County.

8:42 - maybe they will decades later like they did with Reagan.

We have to do a preemptive strike on Iran. I hope Trump realizes this.

President Trump should have installed a Muslim ban. He is already getting the fall out like he did one. 43 Muslim majority countries are not on the list.

Did you give Obama flack when he did the same exact thing to Iraq?

Obama actually made the list used in the "Ban".

90 days, hell that isn't a ban, its a timeout.

"Iran has tested a ballistic missile in defiance of U.N. Resolution. Now all of us can be nervous as we await the White House's reaction."

I think you misspoke, Skippy! I think now all of Iran can be nervous as they await the White House reaction.

" did Trump have to go off half-cocked and fire her?"

Ever heard of draining the swamp?

"Trump fired the Attorney General last night for not enforcing his Muslim Ban". I see two errors in this sentence, (1) Trump fired the acting Attorney General, not the Attorney General and (2) The ban is not on Muslims but on immigrants from the five countries, regardless of the religion of the individuals. Christians from Syria seek asylum, but sorry you are not allowed.

I'm just curious how many more internet websites Trump is going to pull department heads and cabinet positions from.

If you really believe Iran handed everything over you are really dumb they handed over enough to look like they were complying to get sanctions lifted and a bunch of money from Obama that was it.

I thought Wordkyle didn't read or respond to Rage? But somehow he thins that when Rage points out his lies he's for some reason borrowing his (non-existent) credibility?

I wonder if that's anything like borrowing Ted Cruz's credibility?

At some point Abbott is going to have to stand up for himself. He just can't keep running around the issues.

Question: If you have to deliver bad news to the governor, do you ask him to sit down beforehand? Probably not would be my guess.

When you have a president and AG with the right letter after their name, state's can defy federal statute and get away with it. ie the federal statute says marijuana is illegal, yet several states have legalized it. All while Obama was in office. I'm not sure what Trump's view on marijuana is, but I read where a Texas state legislature has written a bill to make having or performing an abortion a criminal act. If that passes it will be interesting to see if the Trump administration will ignore it just like Obama ignored the marijuana dilemma.

There is an interesting juxtaposition in our nation. Either the GOP is really terrified of terrorists, or they are stripping civil liberties under the ruse of fear. Both are probably accurate. I personally consider them little bitches.

Some of us find success, and some of us make excuses. Most people know which side they are on...but few will admit it.

Rage, dearest, please try to pay attention.

The Acting AG drama queen Yates did not find the order illegal. She said she's "not convinced" that it's just and right and defensible. If she were interested in doing her job, she would have been busy getting convinced so she could either state that some portion of it were illegal -- and then help to cure it -- or that it is completely within the President's powers. That would have required some integrity. Her weaselly "not convinced" statement while refusing to do her job was just a beautiful mix of incompetence and insubordination. And she was only willing to do that *because* she only has a couple of days left before she's out anyway.

It was right to fire her immediately. Any person in that position that isn't willing to do their job even when the Administration has changed -- and who doesn't have the integrity to simply resign and go away -- should be fired.

"Obama actively thwarted the Iranian ability to process nuclear material (only to have Israel blow the lid off the operation), then got Iran to give it all to us so they have no material with which to arm their missile."

And yet, for some reason, Iran just keeps building the missiles. I wonder why they do that if they can't be armed?

1:25--technically, states are just not prosecuting pot cases because they have taken possession off of their books. This is the exact opposite of the immigration issue. States told feds "if you want to prosecute someone for one joint, you do it, but we're not paying for it." The feds have yet to push back. But, they are pushing back on immigration, telling cops "you do our job for us, or we're withholding funds."

In other words, they're hypocrites where brown people are concerned.

As for the abortion statute--if you will remember, Trump said in an interview that gay marriage was legal because the Supreme Court said so two years ago, but that abortion would have to be revisited, despite the fact that the Supreme Court legalized it 40 years ago. Good for him on leaving gay marriage alone, but it shows that he is having to repay some favors on abortion.

He also said in that interview that people in some states that did not want abortion would have to go to other states to get one. So this new Texas law is playing on that stance--they are setting abortion up to be a states rights issue.

Legally, I think it's a good way to go about it. I'm pro-life, and think that there is more at stake than a mother's "choice".

Of course, I also think that the best and cheapest way to prevent abortions is to fund organizations like Planned Parenthood, which pass out birth control like candy. Fewer unwanted pregnancies = fewer abortions, period. It's one reason why there are fewer abortions today than there have been in decades--education and birth control.

Maybe when they replace Obamacare, Republicans can replace Planned Parenthood?

Comparing illegal aliens to a stoner with one joint is just too hilarious. Even for Rage's way of thinking. Did you ever figure out a way to ban lightning for 120 days yet there boy wonder? If PP is going to sell baby parts, why do they need our tax payer funds to pass out birth control? HUH?

Anonymous said...

Comparing one instance of state cops enforcing federal law to another instance of state cops enforcing federal law makes perfect sense to me, 2:49. How about you get past all that anger and learn to read?

Anonymous said...

Pretty sure "states are just not prosecuting pot cases" because they legalized pot by way of election in those states. Colorado, Oregon, Washington, Alaska etc. They made it legal to buy, grow, smoke etc.

Anonymous said...

Skippy Guy, the swamp is being drained and replaced with more swamp water.

They showed that whole PP for body parts thing to be false.

Anonymous said...

4:41, Really? They had people admitting it on tape. Just saying it was false, doesn't make it true.

4:38, I love your sense of humor. Need some hot chocolate and a coloring book?

Anonymous said...

4:41 - No, it was all true. You just can't believe what you did.

Anonymous said...

Less politics, and more RTGs with big boobies is what we need.

Anonymous said...

If it were true, I'd be fine with it. But it was proved to be false. They never said that on the actual tape footage. Go watch the whole thing, and push away from your ignorant daddy's dinner table. Grow up and do a little research you inbred piece of sh;t.
