The Campaign For DA

Oakland Manager Of Property Where 36+ Died Gives Emotional Interview

I saw him giving interviews last night, and I said out loud, "Shut up."  He has no idea about the wrath of the government that is about to come down on him. The DA out there is already talking about "murder" charges -- which is insane since we might want to figure out the cause of the fire first -- but that should put them on notice that they will be out to get him.

Stop talking, man. Stop talking.

Not that he was getting any in the first place, but he is not getting any sympathy. Especially when his first tweet afterwards was only concerned about his property loss, not the lives lost.

Not an attorney myself, but it sounds as if the condition of the building would have made it harder for people to escape in the event of a fire. That may be what they want to try to get him on.

If someone would have attempted to shut down this property (fire marshal, police) all these hippies would be rioting in the streets (and your usual, too many cops comment would follow). They're were left alone without supervision and it snowballed in to the situation which we now see before us. They are (were adults), the conditions inside were the fault of the tenants, no one else.

Even I thought that! Shut up, man!

I get the feeling Derick Ion Almena is an attention whoring drama bomb and is loving being in the spotlight. One of Almena's more outrageous statements, “I’m not going to answer these questions on this level. I’d rather get on the floor and be trampled by the parents. I’d rather let them tear at my flesh than answer these ridiculous questions,”

Is there any way we can grant Almena his preference?

There are a few more tidbits of info that will seal Almena's fate. Almena is not the owner of the property, he merely leases it. Evidently, Almena's $5,000 per month lease with the owner, Chor N. Ng, specifically states Almena is forbidden from sub-leasing any part of the warehouse and/or using the warehouse as a habitat. Almena, who isn't an electrician, has admitted to having done "electrical repairs" without permits or even under the supervision of a licensed electrician.

I suspect as a defense attorney you probably have to scream "shut up" about 20 times a day.
