Random Thursday Morning Thoughts

  • I'm not sure what that Misty May gal has to scream into the camera after every volleyball win. (Side note: Didn't she used to be hot?)
  • They were talking about hyphenated names (maiden-married) on the radio this morning and how that was a fad of the 1980s.  But they also mentioned how the children of a hyphenated named woman were burdened with the hyphenated name they were given. Huh? I can't think of a single person I know (or who I have seen on any docket) who has a hyphenated last name they were given at birth.
  • Hot sports opinion: The Rangers will not get out of the first round of the playoffs.
  • Hot political opinion: President Obama will win re-election. (OK, haters. Bookmark this one. You'll never get to use it, but go ahead and do it.)
  • Watched the premiere of Hard Knocks last night. I love that show. (Note: Chad Johnson will not make the roster of the Miami Dolphins.)
  • There continues to be rumors of Chris Christie being named the Republican VP nominee.  That would be a disaster for the GOP.
  • I will not mention that Randy Travis walked out of jail in a paper outfit while wearing a University of Texas cap.
  • Lolo Jones and Hope Solo are the two coolest names at the Olympics (although Lolo might have turned out to be a bit of an overhyped fraud.)
  • Mrs. LL has now become obsessed with Casey Anthony books. The odd thing is that I don't remember her even mentioning the case while it was ongoing.
  • I'm not sure what this "Report a DUI" site is about, but this report about a Bridgeport man yesterday seems to be a set up.
  • I saw six Corvettes with Alabama plates go through Decatur on 287 yesterday and they were paying particular attention to speed limits.
  • "Decatur ISD's 2012 Secondary Teacher of the Year, Erin Griffith, was named Region 11 Secondary Teacher of the Year this evening." Look out for Region 12. I've heard their loaded this year.
  • I watched about 15 minutes of Go On last night. It was what I thought it was.
  • I'm not sure about the scope and size of the property, but how can the resort "Atlantis" in the Bahamas afford to advertise so much?
  • According to the Update, we've had a fatality wreck in Wise County this morning. Here's the location on Google maps.

Obama has to be considered favored to win. He's got The Machine going for him: Incumbency. Expanded power of his office, including Executive Orders to bribe voters (e.g.,welfare work waivers.) No minimum-sleaze limit to Democrat attacks. Media accomplices willing to give legs to those attacks. Limitless funds. (It's easy to raise money when donors know you'll pay them back with taxpayer money.)

Against that there's Obama's record. We'll see if Republicans can get voters to pay attention to it. They couldn't in 2008, so Romney's got to be considered the underdog.

Check their vacation package prices and you'll see how Atlantis can afford to advertise so much. Good grief, that's an expensive getaway.

The Atlantis resort in the Bahamas is massive. I couldn't find the number of rooms online anywhere, but I'm sure it's in the thousands. Not only do they house that many guests onsite, but they allow cruise ship passengers to pay an outlandish fee to use the grounds and waterpark on their days in port.

In short, they can afford to advertise as much as they do because the place is a factory to print money.

You are way too overconfident about Obama's re-election chances.

I think this is more just a reflection of your own wishful thinking!

Atlantis is a money factory. They had big money backing in the beginning (a south African?) to do the facility right. They really know how to promote, although they are pricey. Used to be a favorite casino of several former Dallas Cowboys coaches & players.

Old people, professionals, and mom's with babes dominate my memories.....what about your memories. Be honest.

LoLo is an "overhyped fraud"? WOW! She places fourth in the Olympics by one tenth of a second and she's a fraud? Good Lord I would hate to have to meet the bar you set every day. The New York Times ran a rip piece on the kid a few days ago, which was pretty sad, considering that she's an American fighting for a medal and that is an American newspaper. But it is generally considered a part of the "liberal news media" and while I don't normally subscribe to that sort of thinking, I gotta say, calling anyone who made the finals a fraud is sort of silly and the only reason that I can think of you calling her out like that is that you have been brainwhashed by the liberal news media New York Times. Good night and good luck!

I think Obama has every chance of losing this election due to the state of the economy, high unemeployment, Obama's and do-nothing Presidential record---and this is just not wishful thinking. Fellow Republican and Tea Party members are united in their commitment to vote for Romney--even if they do not agree with him politically or religiously to oust Obama. When you have the philosphy working that anyone is beter than Obama---the chances are very good that he will not be re-elected---many of Obama's base, while still believing in his policies, are not very happy with the state of America right now. They want for better times economically as badly as Obama's detractors, and I think they are secretly willing to gamble on "anyone is better than Obama" in the voting booth, too.

Mitt Romney had 14 “Pants on Fire” Statements (9% of all statements by Romney which were reviewed by Politifact), while 65 of his statements as reviewed by Politifact were in the “Mostly False,” “False,” or “Pants on Fire” category (43%), and 45 were “True” or “Mostly True” (30%). The largest single category of statements by Romney as reviewed by Politifact were “Half-True” (43 statements, or 28%).

How do these numbers stack up? Well, let’s see… Mitt Romney had 14 “Pants on Fire” Statements, whereas:

Michele Bachmann had 12 (23%).

Newt Gingrich had 10 (16%).

Sarah Palin had five (9%).

Rush Limbaugh also had five (33%).

And finally, Harry Reid had two (13%).

In fact, in terms of the absolute numbers, we were unable to find any individual or group with higher “Pants on Fire” statements than Mitt Romney (although we’re happy to hear if you were able to find more). It’s worth noting, though, that the percent of statements rated POF was higher for Bachmann, Gingrich, Limbaugh, and Reid than for Romney (still tied with Palin!).

"The DISD/Region 11Teacher of the Year is no longer teaching in DISD. She left for greener pastures."

Ditto with her moving with her husband AND she was sad to leave.

Some yahoo the other day stated that 20 HS teachers resigned - that is also false. It was less than that and they were because of various reasons (health, family, retirement etc.) - not because they were disgruntled.

I have said it before and I will say it again - people like to make shit up.

Anonymous said...

9:13 are you a DISD teacher? If so, I wish you'd get the hell out so my kids won't have to have you for a teacher. You disgrace the profession with your negative attitude. I know plenty of DISD teachers who seem pretty happy and I'm always thankful when my kids get one of them. A positive attitude goes a long way. And don't blame the administrators. They seem to be doing whatever they are told by the state. There are good ones and bad ones, but essentially the whole world has bosses and we all have to do what they say.

I've been browner pastures than DISD. Some needed to set on fire. You can do worse than DISD, for sure.

If you think Obama is getting re-elected, then just listen to what Dick Morris has to say. This guy got Clinton re-elected and is a political genius. He says Obama is losing in a landslide, and that many of the polls that say otherwise are seriously flawed with their internals and give Democrats too large an advantage.

Besides which......shouldn't an incumbent president have a HUGE advantage right now? It doesn't seem that Obama does.

wordkyle said...

1037 - Politifact is hardly nonpartisan. In calling Romney's ad about Obama gutting welfare reform "pants on fire," Politifact cites the "left-leaning Center on Budget and Policy Priorities" as its expert advisors. Politifact classifies as "mostly false" Romney's claim that "In June, jobless ranks were higher in nearly 90 percent of U.S. cities." But then Politifact goes on to say that well, yes, the claim was technically true. "True" as in "not false."

Has any president, in the history of presidents, been required to release their college transcript as part of the vetting process?

Or even done it as a matter of tradition? Hell, Bush wouldn't release his military service record until it had been fully edited. And it's clear, fake letter notwithstanding, that he didn't finish his service and got cushy appointments instead of going overseas to fight. Of course, if you don't take your flight physical, you don't get forced to go into combat, so maybe that was his way of being an objector.

Show us the tax returns. Show us that you complied with federal law. If you're running for president, you should be able to prove that you did. You could put all this to rest Romney, just show us that you weren't involved in some tax shenanigans.

Anonymous said...

It's all about the electorial college folks. The first one to break 270 wins. The polls showing Romney at 47% and Obama at 43% have no value because the President is elected on a state by state basis.

http://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2012/president/2012_elections_electoral_college_map.html

Like it or not, THIS is how the winner and loser will be decided. The key will be the swing states with significant voting weight, like FL, OH, VA and NC which are all considered toss up states at the moment.

If all the states vote as expected and Obama wins any 2 of the 4 toss up states or wins FL outright, he's the next POTUS. The only way he will lose is if there are some upsets at the state level to throw more votes over to Romney.

There's a Lost in Translation moment for you. We mention the Obama campaign (via their PAC) releasing an ad accusing Romney of causing the death of a guy's wife. First, the details given in the ad are proven demonstrably false. Next, the Obama campaign says they don't know anything about it, but are shown to have used the same guy and the same story in a conference call a couple of months ago. (Not that the Obama campaign and PAC would ever violate federal law by coordinating their activities, right?) And somehow that makes me "on the defensive" (in addition to a complete non sequitir involving Romneycare.) Ritalin will set you free, pal.

Anonymous said...

Romney's campaign said of that woman had been in Massachusets when he was governor, she would have lived! You know, because he started socialized medicine!

Romney on why he's not releasing tax returns: When pressed on why he’s not releasing more tax returns in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek, Mitt Romney justified it by saying: “I’m not a business.”

So you can see his business experience, but only during the years that he wasn't actually in business!

By the way--buying companies, firing all their employees, and selling the parts is not "business experience."

Show us that tax returns, you tax cheat!

You can be blind, deaf and dumb and still be the Prez. if you meet that criteria, like Obama and Romney both do.

College transcripts have no bearing at all, thank God.

If all presidential candidates don't want to be open about their entire history, they have no business being in the race.

Forget about the Dems demanding Romney realease his returns, his own father says that he should.

In spite of the fact that a sitting president should have a huge advantage in re-election, Bush II, who actually lost the popular vote in his first election, won re-election by the smallest margin in recent history.

Before you use an argument about a candidate, use the same argument against your own and see how they hold up.

We all need to be asking hard questions of everyone that is running and demanding that we get full and complete answers so we can choose.
