He Got Weed! He Got Weed!

Hey, kids, want to know what the 1970s were like? Well take a look. This is Channel 8's coverage of what was commonly referred to as the Texxas Jamm from July 1, 1978. Think it's a good idea to have a packed outside concert in the Cotton Bowl at that time of year?

Among the headliners that day: Aerosmith, Ted Nugent, Van Halen (glimpsed briefly), Journey and Heart.

And a ticket would run you a hefty $12.50.

Can you believe that was nearly 33 years ago?? Wow!

It is too easy to idealize the "good old" days, but in many ways those times were better.

I was there, also. Took too much LSD & wound up attacking people bigger than me. Man, was I dumb!

Lord, I had forgotten Texxas Jam. Yes, I too was there. Lots of bare sunburned flesh & wafting smoke of an illicit nature. I was upstanding and did not partake, but I had a contact high from the drifting haze. And I guiltily now admit before my blog family - I enjoyed Journey. What was I thinking?

PS - Also attended Willie's 4th of July Picnic at Texas World Speedway in 1974. Saw Priscilla Davis there with several of her social girlfriends. Fine looking lady in those days. Mighty fine.

This clip should have shown how they turned on the firehoses from the stage to wet (cool) the crowd and the "floor" area. Guess they didn't realize that only created more HOT humidity!

Oh my gawd!! Texxas Jams were the best!!!! 1984 was a good one, too--Astrodome, for me this particular year, though--Brian Adams, .38 Special, OZZY, and Rush!!

Also: Scorpions, Journey, Aerosmith, Van Halen, Heart, Cheap Trick, Bon Jovi, Ronnie James Dio, Loverboy, Whitesnake, Tesla, Poison..ahh it was great to be living back in the 80's!!!! Rock on!

Funny how concerned the reporter was about the weed....
90% of his story was about people smoking it and not getting arrested.
