I Had Heard Rumors About This

I had always thought, perhaps naively, that the office supply part of the Messenger empire is what brought in the money. Now the Messenger newspaper is left to survive on its own.

I've said it time and time again, I love the Messenger. But something doesn't feel right.

The Messenger had a supply store also? Did they sell things right out of the store where they also printed?
Did they sell everyday office items such as paper clips and paper?

They don't do their own printing!
Yes they sold office supplies, evening office furniture.

The Hendersons are the best. I love doing business with them. They know how to take care of a customer.

Only older people read printed newspapers. Online is how people get their news and unless your kid plays sports or you want to read the social section of the paper, save your money to afford the higher cost at the pump.

The Messenger is probably having cash flow problems. It is not the same since it sold. The news of what is going on is not being covered.

Ican't stand the Messenger. It is supposed to be the WISE county messenger not the DECATUR MESSENGER. It has allways been about Decatur. Screw the rest of the county

Newspapers and public libraries: two very odd anachronisms.

The mess has gone way downhill in the past couple of years. I won't be renewing this year. Now instead of the news anyone cares about like school board meetings, all they cover is their brand of human interest stories, which glorify teen pregnancy, having kids out of marriage, and other such drivel. Even the comments are crap...Ken Hughes is a joke and the rest are just fluff.

I am a former Messenger employee. I was told from the time I started that the Eatons used the office supply store as a way to bring in extra revenue for the paper and help pay for employees' travel expenses, supply needs, fuel for company cars, etc.

Either the WCM is indeed having money problems or the new publisher just doesn't want to fool with the added burden of an office supply business.

Loev Joe Neil and Marianne! 2 of the nicest people around. They will do great things with this.

The WCM is probably having to cut costs.

Forget this.

Bring in Office Depot instead!

8:01 from Bridgeport? Decatur can't do anything right in your green eyes can they?

To re-paraphrase a greater thinker than I:

"Bridgeport is where the west begins, Decatur is where the east peters out".
He also said "I belong to no organized political party! I'm a Democrat". But sounds more like the GOP these days.

"evening office furniture"....most lawyers buy that kind, don't they?

Bridgeport is where the trailer trash lives. Decatur is the home of the educated and well-to-do.
