DPS is an odd bunch. The troopers follow strict protocol more than any other agency in Texas, yet at the "end" of a chase they tend to open fire with an unusual frequency. It was just about five years ago when two separate individuals were shot dead in Wise County after a chase.
But, man, they dodged a bullet (horrible pun) when a three year old wasn't killed when they fired into a car this time. This would be nationwide news if that little kid had been killed.
And the only thing the driver was wanted for at the time was speeding.

How about the fact that the driver was putting the child in the car at risk by driving over 100 mph and fleeing from the troopers? Wasn't the driver also placing the child in danger?
Typical DPS Gestapo. Wise County would have used more commone sense.

They opened fire because he attempted to run over a trooper, they didn't know the child was in the car...the guy driving the car is the idiot, and he is the one to blame for putting the child in harm's way...just stop, stupid!

Can one of you people that think the DPS was wrong tell me what they should do when somebody runs from an officer? And continues to run for 40 minutes? And swerves to avoid a roadblock?

You sure hate cops dont you? Every chance you get to gig at those who consistently take your drunks off the road, you take it. Why dont you sit down with Jackie Murphrees family sometime and see how you feel then. How about some time with Randy Whites wife? You stare down the barrel of somehing other than the one you put trash in and then you can gripe. Walk a mile in their shoes or shut the hell up.
Person one was shot because they pointed a gun at a cop. Person two was shot for same reason. Why dont you print the whole story.

So the obvious solution to protect the child from the vehicle operator is to fire at him? Oh and blame the driver if/when the child is hit by a bad shot and/or injured.

They had the info they needed to make an arrest if they had stopped pursuit and did a follow-up. But they had to be Hefe Macho Coppo and shoot 'em down for doing 72 in a 55 and failing to submit to their authori-tah.
My only question is how long before Wise County's Super Constable is involved?

I've always heard police are supposed to PROTECT and SERVE the people. Most in law enforcement forget this, and instead, are just out there doing whatever they have to do in order to make a "name" for themselves. It is us taxpayers who pay for ALL gov't employees salaries. It is time for us Americans to take back our country by whatever means neccessary...
The article states that the officers on scene didn't know the child was in the car. The dispatcher did but the radio was being drowned out by the helicopter noise.
Either way not a good situation but the driver ultimately held all the cards. Just pull over and the child is safe.

DPS And most cops around here shot first and then look for a gun!!
They shoot cause their to fat to run.
