Northwest ISD News

The Messenger always prints Northwest ISD news that I refuse to read because I don't consider the school to be part of the "old Wise County." But, alas, times change.

Northwest ISD announced today the creation of a new high school that will be located in the very high tone town of Trophy Club. (I must admit that my very first home I ever owned was in Trophy Club, but it was in "the poor section" to the west so I'm not sure it counted.)

Back to the high school. It will cost $96 million and will include, get this, an indoor football practice facility. Which, I guess, means that Trophy Club High School will have its own football team. And, I guess, it will need its own mascot. It will certainly have to have some type of Republican flavor considering the demographics. The Trophy Club Desert Storm? The Trophy Club Trickle Downs? The Trophy Club Shock and Awes? The Trophy Club Capital Gains?

I would say that a bunch of white boys will get killed in football but Highland Park and Southlake have proven that ain't necessarily so.

we live in rhome and our daughter attends northwest high school. we are every bit in wise county. why would the newspaper not cover northwest schools since there are more than 500 students who live in wise county? not to mention three schools in wise county. kudos to the messenger for looking out for us in the little communities.

Northwest already has an indoor football practice facility. Ridiculous for a high school! Tax dollars completely wasted! Word was Story wanted one too...but that got nixed after the Title IX stuff. Good!

The Trophy Club Weapons of Mass Destruction and when they win state they can hang a big "Mission Accomplished" banner at the town hall.

Very good, anon at 9:27am.
Except, in that scenario they would have actually accomplished something.

News said the school will have a "coffee shop". Why does a high school need a coffee shop? It's ridiculous!

Three thoughts:
1. The Eaton's are from that area and went to school at Northwest and still own their family farms down there, so it does get special treatment.
2. As mentioned above, they currently do have an indoor practice facility and I'm sure don't want the boys from the new school to feel slighted. By the way, the current indoor facility was constructed illegally, by diverting funds that were passed in bonds for other projects and postponing those projects to use the funds to build it.
3. This will split their enrollment between the two schools and make each school smaller so when district alignments come around they won't be in the same district as Southlake. Don't you know the coaches will breathe a sigh of relief.

11:33...uhhh, because there are a lot of older high school kids who like coffee? Do you think maybe that's why? And more than that, it's trendy right now for kids to meet, study and hang out in Starbucks and other coffee shops...even IHOPs. Lots of high schools have coffee shops and other vending. So do lots of churches. Give me a school full of kids whose worst habit is drinking coffee and I'll show you a pretty good school.

Good one 9:27, and they could also hang a banner that says, "Take that you liberal weenies."

How about the Trophy Club Left-wingnuts!

Yeah, how 'bout 'em.....

In touring the current high school, after which the new one will be somewhat fashioned, I could only think, "Wow, wasn't like this when I was in HS!" (and it wasn't said with a negative tone either)

I hope all you affluent white people, whose children are attending these nice new schools with indoor sports complexes and coffee shops are sending some Robin Hood money to the poor black folks over at James Madison.

B's blogs about these two schools just draw a sigh of disgust from me.

2:12, How much money are you sending over there? Is that the only school that you care about or would things be better if we sent all of our money in to the state and let them distribute it as they see fit.

2:12 I think Northwest ISD sent about $29 million to Austin last year under the robinhood plan. But as you can tell, it hasn't helped schools like James Madison. Money is not the answer to improve education.

Amen 5:41, money can't solve the problems in education, at least not locally. I don't know about the others, but Decatur HS needs some good, strong, ethical, honest and most importantly, fair-to-all leadership. The good teachers are dropping like flies up there on the hill, and it's time we do something about it.
