Gettin' Liquored Up

It seems like in the blink of an eye Wise County has gone from relatively bone dry to very, very wet. From the Update: LIQUOR PETITION — Folks in Bridgeport could soon be voting on the sale of alcoholic beverages for off-premise consumption. Wise County Clerk Sherry Parker said Jennifer Walker picked up a petition from her office on Friday and will gather signatures to hold an election.

It has only taken Wise County 73 years to get with the times. There's hope yet.

Anonymous said...

Yea! In another 10 years maybe we'll be as well off as Arlington or Ft. Worth or Dal'ass! ( Anyone know where the new Stop Six will be?)

When do we get the stip clubs?

Anon must have started at noon.

Anon 2:35, Are you inferring that because Wise County is no longer dry it is going to turn to crap?

It's not the alcohol that turns cities and counties to crap, it is low income housing. The kind the idiotic Decatur City Council keeps insisting we need more of.

Low income usually means poorly educated or stupid to put it bluntly. And yes stupid people tend to drink a lot but don't make everyone suffer.

Drugs, booze, yep - now all Bridgeport needs is the strip clubs to go to hell.

Geeeeeeeeeeeeez!

Anonymous said...

We have a strip club, go to Frilly's on thurs. and watch the karoke chick who's Butt looked like it was beat with a sack full of nickels!

Anonymous said...

The are no stip clubs in Wise County because there is a sexual oriented business county ordinance against them. Call Judge Dick CHase for a copy.

Anon @ 3:17. Your words clearly show that YOU are not educated. If you were, you wouldn't have made such an idiotic statement. That is some of the stupidest shit I've ever heard. What a jerk!

We're Wise County, and we only want well-heeled white people to live here!

Anon @ 4:26. I have a Bachelor of Science from SWTSU 1995, MBA from University of Dallas 1999, and I am working on a PhD. I believe I am educated. Anon 3:17 makes a strong point, which this education person agrees with. You on the other hand just call him an uneducated jerk and do not back up any of your name calling with facts. You are the one that really looks uneducated.

The problem is NOT the alcohol. In fact, I would rather the alcohol be in Bridgeport so drunk Bubba does not have to drive Decatur or RAB to get it. Hopefully there would be less chance of Bubba killing someone on 380.

I would like to see some of that tax revenue stay in Bridgeport. Also this may actually help the restaurant business, I have heard that 40%+ of restaurant revenue comes from alcohol sales.

So I would support the petition even thought I have never had a drink in my life.

I remember well the advertising for Decatur's alcohol election. The tax revenue generated would repair the streets. Anyone driven through Decatur as of late? Perhaps medical science is correct....alcohol does kill brain cells.

Chico is already Stop Six. A few homicides and one suicide.

To say that low income people are stupid is well...very stupid and once again...uneducated. I don't believe you have those degrees. It shows in your writing and your opinion.

Anonymous said...

Make the firewater accessible and what will you have--knifings and more shootings.
Certain people cannot drink and stay sane.

Anonymous said...

5:01PM, do you really think Decatur has the right to talk about obnoxious shopping centers? Prada Shops is all that you describe, and then some. Forced ambiance isn't.

Anonymous said...

Who cares if the shopping center is ugly. A guy from Decatur owns it. The businesses that will go in there will be better for the city.

And people who want to drink will always drink. They still drive to RAB or Decatur to get it so why not make a little money off of it.

I guess that is an indictment on our school system. I guess my “uneducated” writing and opinion has earned TWO degrees and a high paying job. If this “uneducated” person can do it, why can’t the low-income person do it? If the low-income people are not stupid then they must be lazy. Either one can be fixed if they truly want to change their life.

Oh, and name calling still does not change the fact that the majority of low-income people usually have lower IQ’s. I know the liberals cannot accept that fact. But it is true.

I think the last poster said it well. A lot of people in Wise County are worried about other people drinking or gambling say the feel the need to protect us from ourselves. The problem is either (1) education or (2) motivations/drive. You don't have to be educated to be rich but what you lack in education you better be willing make up for in motivation. Either that or have it given to you. The government gives too much to the poor so they will always lack motivation.

Stop worrying about the booze and focus on the real problem.

Is your educated mind really that narrow to say that poor people are either lazy or stupid? Have you ever even taken at least ONE sociology course? Maybe the problem here is that while you may be qualified to speak in the business world, you ARE NOT qualified in this arena. You say your working on a Ph. D, well go to the sociology professors at your university and tell them that your think all poor people are lazy and stupid. See what they have to say. I would never speak about business issues, because I know I'm not qualified. The bottom line is that you do not know what your talking about. Your comments are making you look like a fool. You are speaking on a subject that you ARE NOT educated in.

I guess Republicans have to hold on to the old "rugged individualist" ideology to justify the stupid shit they do in the governtment.

The Republicans have even managed to decieve the Christians. Christianity is about love, not hate. Wake up God-fearing Americans.

I DID take a sociology class at a Junior College. It was a waste of $90 plus books. It was an indoctrination class for the liberal way of thinking. You say I am not qualified in this arena. I ask what arena, the life skills arena? I think I have a very accomplished understanding on how to get out of poverty.

You say I need to ask some lazy college professor what he/she thinks about my view of the poor people. The Prof probably could not cut it in the real world so the run back to academia and preach the liberal gospel. Why in the hell should I care what they think of me? Is the Prof the final say in who is a good person and who is not? F. Them. I am out here busting my ass to provide for my family and all the other POOR FAMILIES I support through my tremendous annual tax bill!!!

I may be a fool in your eyes, but I am an extremely happy fool that loves my life, and loves to tease bleeding heart libs. I am not some dejected soul that is worrying about all the poor people. Trust me, the poor people aren’t worrying about enriching my life. Why should I care about enriching theirs?

some people care about money, some people care about people.

Pretty scary guy

So you have the solution to poverty...wow, please share it with the rest of the world. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that.

Anonymous said...

Anon 7:19

There is NO solution to poverty. There will always be poor people, no matter how much we care about them. That is because about 4-6% of our great nation will not work, Period. If you ever took an economics class, you will see that even in the boom years, there is a minimum of 4-6% of the population not working. Why is that? I only see two reasons, they are not smart or they are lazy.

We have generously given the poor BILLIONS (maybe even TRILLIONS) of dollars over the past years through government programs. I believe more people are living below the poverty line today than ever before. What has this quasi-socialist system solved? How can you think the current system is helping the poor? I answered your question now answer mine.

So either the poor are not smart enough to get out of poverty, or they are too comfortable with the money we give them. I believe that I do care about these people. Keeping them on a measly government check is not a great life. I want them go out and work they WILL improve their life and our society. All I am saying is maybe it is time for some tough love, because this quasi-socialist system is not working.

Also, I really wish you guys would stop saying that I am scary, narrow minded, money hungry and stupid. Instead of the childish name call why don’t you actually counter some of my points? I honestly believe that there are many people that agree with me, maybe even the majority. But name-calling is usually a last ditch effort to discredit someone when you know they are right and you have no logical response to their rationale. :-}

The majority of those in poverty are women, children, the elderly, and disabled. Most of the women on public assistance are single "working" moms. They are working, but they are not getting paid enough. It's called the feminizaton of poverty. There is more people in poverty because of the single moms. No doubt there are just some lazy people, but that is not the majority. Poverty is way too complex of an issue to narrow it down to stupid or lazy. Life is not that simple. It's not black and white. This will be my last post, because I can't debate someone about poverty when the other person is not educated in that area. Although, I can post some very interesting statistics concerning poverty if you would like to see them. The current system does help, but it is not enough.

For me, it is not a Rep/Lib thing. It's a GOD thing. The poor are mentioned over and over and over again in the Bible. Jesus spoke many times about the importance of helping them. He did not say judge them first. As a matter of fact he warns against judgement of the poor in James 2: 1-12.

God bless you

I bet a majority of the people on government programs are black women!!!!! Who are stupid, lazy, and won't stop having kids!!!!! Then the rest of the stupid lazy people who keep reproducing are next who are white, brown, pink, blue. They keep making babies b/c the money the govt. gives them keeps them poor.

Anonymous said...

I think we have beaten a poor dead horse. Poor women keep having babies because they are too stupid to use birth control and they can't pick a decent man to save their life. I guarantee if the money stopped so would the babies.

i think that every single one of you need to take a good long look at your comments and thin at your selves. "judge not that you may not be judged" life isnt about trying to figure out how stupid other people are or who is the source of the problems in our world. i think that every one needs to stop blaming and realize that we are all responsible in some way for the way this world is. good and bad, and the only way we will ever figure out the answers is by looking towards the only person that has them... GOD.

Then God can start paying my taxes.
