At least on Cingular, why does your cell phone prompt you that you have "missed a call" after you have already checked your voice mail and listened to it?

There is a bigger problem with the phone companies than that. Why when you dial a "1" and don't need to does the phone company tell you to hang up and call again???? Wouldn't be simpler to put the call through with a message "For future reference, this is not a long distance call from this phone number."
I mean, I am sure they have updated their computer program since 1970. Well maybe not.
