The Great Wall of Texas?

Headline: "Momentum builds for fence along U.S.-Mexican border." There seems to be a growing firestorm storm in the area of illegal aliens. Bush's right wing critics are constantly harping on how he had done nothing to curtail illegal immigration (Bill O'Reilly is at the top of the list). Now throw in the local story of the Dallas cop that was killed over the weekend by an illegal immigrant. It's getting kind of tense. It's getting a little tense.

You know if we didn't give them jobs and etc they wouldn't come. We are moving jobs into Mexico via the Maquilladora's but only paying them about $1.50/hour. So, our jobs go down there but they leave and come up here where we pay them $8.50/hour plus lunch to mow our grass and plant our flowers and do all kinds of other day labor jobs. No wonder they come up here.

Oh yeah, then we take their kids into our schools where they are taught to speak 2 languages from the time they enter (my kid doesn't get that) and we give them free health care and etc.

It is kinda like prostitution and drugs, if there weren't a demand we wouldn't have a problem.

I don't know if some of you realize the trials and tribulations that these folks endure to "cross" the border. They leave behind poverty and hunger in a way that you and I could not even imagine. The majority of these folks are law abiding, family oriented people that just want a chance to better themselves. I am white and blue eyed and believe in their journey.

I wonder how many remember the inscription on the Statue of Liberty - something like give me your tired, your hungry, desperate and let them be welcome here...

Guess we've changed the rules but not the inscription. Should we give the Statue of Liberty back to France because it no longer represents what it once did?

Yeah, maybe France needs it. They are not very nice to their muslim brethren who have burned 7,000 of their cars.

If you want to close the borders, why does that only apply to Mexico.
Anyone and everyone is allowed to enter from any country, except Mexico. They want what every American wants, the right to have a decent life for their families.
What's wrong with that?

I don't know what the solution is, but put the shoe on the other foot.
