Arrgghhh
Did you see the story about the pirates attempting to attack a cruise liner off the coast of Africa last weekend? This picture was taken of the "evil doers" before the cruise ship out ran them. That's not exactly how I pictured a modern day pirate ship but the guy holding the rocket launcher would get my attention.
And then there is the story today that the cruise shipped blasted the pirates with an earsplitting noise in what is called a "sonic weapon".

What the pirates deserved is to have a "lethal" weapon "trained in their direction"!
I like the idea of a sonic weapon.
I just couldn't believe that my newscast had a story about "pirates?" I thought, "Wow, and I'm not 6, nor is anyone reading a story to me!" It was kinda trippy!
--and yes, the little boat of pirates didn't look terribly threatening, but the rocket launcher did give them some serious "yikes" effect--
what a great job on the part of the captian as for the pirates where was the ships defense system a sonic weapon good thing they didnt have earplugs i agree with anon 8:34 why werent they blasted out of the water if all the cruise ships were set up to do that i have my doubts that pirates would try this stuff
Johnny Depp was probably so disappointed. Captain Sparrow wouldn't be seen in such a crappy boat.
You guys act as if this is something new. I live in Key West, and we worry about this problem constantly heading out to the Bahamas. Once you are into International waters, you are fair game to anyone-and there is nothing the U.S. Coast Guard can do. That is why if you ever come down here and want to go on a fishing trip into deep waters-us fishermen will always carry a couple assault rifles since they are legal now.
I went on a trip to the Bahamas from Key Largo about 10 years ago. I know what you mean. There really are a lot of crazies over in that area. I would not go south of Florida either, you are apt to getting your boat hijacked by Cuban nationals trying to swim to florida.
I think I saw the same group on Lake Bridgeport...
