Flashback

Ever wonder what Love Field looked like in 1972 when it was the only airport in Dallas?

It has always been the only airport in Dallas. At that time, another airport, Great Southwest, was operating just south of where DFW sits today. It's runway was where Amon Carter Boulevard is today, with a piece of the old runway and taxiway still visible just north of airport freeway. This was Fort Worth's airport, and provided commercial service also. When Dallas and Fort Worth agreed to build DFW, both cities agreed to bulldoze their respective airports, GSW and Love. Only one party held to that agreement.

free southwest they have always been the best airline to fly and the only reason american wants them to move is so that they might have a chance at controling the market

Tell SW to go to DFW or go to H*#@%. They can either compete w/ the "big boys" or let AA move flights to Love. Dallas reniged(sp?) on an agreement, and Big Boy Herb wants his cake and eat it too.

well in my times of travel i must say you have a small mix up in you comment. going to dfw is going to hell. south west was the only airline after 9-11 who was not asking the goverment to give them tax money and so far the only airline to post profit. besides this whole thing has taken enough time away from or congressmen and women they have much more important things to do than worry with this bull crap

Southwest will soon have to start paying the same price for jet fuel as the others. Then they will be bleeding money like everyone else.

Southwest makes money because it has limited routes and chooses not to go places that are not as profitable (such as out of DFW). That is their choice and I don't think we should change the rules just because they don't like them. I have only flown out of Love field once and would much rather fly out of DFW just because it closer if nothing else. I like SW but if they chose not to fly out of DFW it is their loss.

It is stupid to keep dumping money into two airports when DFW can handle more flights.
