Can't We All (Still) Just Get Along?

I've seen the video of the elderly man be "beaten" by New Orleans police, but, I've got to tell you, it really doesn't get my blood flowing. Yeah, the punches were excessive, but it just doesn't seem as "outrageous" as the media portrays it. Maybe Rodney King has made my Beating Threshold too high.

I am not sure but if you watch the video a couple of times, it becomes more apparent. Yes, the black dude was drunk-in public no less. But, if you watch the entire video there was no resistance. I mean the guy is like in his late 50's I believe. There were 5 cops trying to get him handcuffed? Comeon.. Yeah the N.O. police dept. has gone through some hard sh*t, but does that give them the right to go around beating the sh*t out of people? Obviously this has happened before, because the cop on the horse even backs up to block the view of the camera-so I guess they have some experience in this area.

The guy is in his sixties, a retired school teacher, who claims he hasn't had a drink in 25 years. Hey Barry, how quick does a defense attorney ask for the blood alcohol level rport on this case?

anon 9:12, How exactly have you been able to determine from watching the video that this guy is drunk? I agree he didn't seem to be resisting so why does it take 3, 4, 5 officers to cuff him? Do they have to do a blood alchol test on this type of arrest? Wonder what it showed?

Something caused a bunch of police to decend on this guy but the information so far doesn't look good for the cops.

I wonder if the guy is diabetic? I know dibetics can appear drunk while having a sugar shortage. How do cops recoginize the difference?

And since when did drunk in public in New Orleans constitue a crime?

The police are trained to deal with this without all the punches!

I'm changing my mind about the policemen in New Orleans!

I still think this has happened many times before. I mean the cop on horseback knew exactly what to do while the other cops were beating the crap out of that guy. Remember in the early 90's when there were a bunch of murders attributed to New Orleans cops? Recently looting-N.O. cops, walking off the job-N.O. cops, lying-N.O. cops, and now battery-N.O. cops. Corrupt is my final answer.

Wow, Runaway Bay must have sent officers there for training. I thought the video was from Harbor Inn!
