Texas has some weird laws regarding showing a driver's license. Under the Penal Code, you do not have to identify yourself unless you are arrested. If you are simply "detained" it's not a crime. See Texas Penal Code 38.02.
But under the Transportation Code, a person is required to display a driver's license "on the demand of a magistrate, court officer, or peace officer" if that person is operating a motor vehicle. And even though it's a "fine only" offense, you can still be arrested like this sweet, dear lady with a bladder infection.
Duh. The Cop was right. If she was "in a hurry", then she should've hurried up and showed him her license and insurance. Yeah, it "looks bad" to us civilians, but if you resist an officer, he/she is duty bound to take control of the situation--they can't just "let it go".
I say bad bad cop..shame on him. He could have broken her spine. He should have just called an ambulance and written a ticket. I hope his wife beats the crap out of him.
If she can produce some documentation from her physician proving there actually was a pre-existing medical condition, then she might have a case. Otherwise, she's just a dumba** about to get a ticket, and trying to brass it out Old doesn't necessarily translate into dear or sweet. Sometimes, a-holes just become older a-holes
People in her generation think they are above any rule or law that does not give them their own way...it is mostly a spoiled generation but also dimensia.
What ever happened to being reasonable. That cop was in a pissing match with a 77-year old woman. He has the biggest pen**. Sure showed her.
He was an ass. He could have followed her to the nearest restroom, and then continued his "traffic stop". How would he like his mother being treated this way?
Well...I think she was just upset that he was going to give her a ticket, and she didn't want one...but, he could have called for backup, and an ambulance, and a tow truck, and all the kings horses and all the kings men, and it still would have been on the news... @!$! media.
She pushed him in a corner. Cops aren't supposed to lose control of the encounter. She was definitely trying to control whether or not she got a ticket. The cop wasn't making a suggestion about getting her license and registration.
But when lawyers look at this all they see is $$$$.
Everytime I drive through Keene I am afraid of getting pulled over. That speed limit is ridiculous for that location. If these are the local cops, I will try better to slow down. I probably would have been arrested -- for driving off.
Made me pee from laughing at her arrogant ass getting yanked and cuffed! I bet she drove right by a dozen public restrooms. If she really had to go, there was ample opportunity to do so.
Throw her in a cell for a few weeks peeing in her water fountain/sink/toilet and I bet she will have a whole new attitude when asked for her license.
Only a U.S. citizen is allowed to get treated this way. If an illegal visitor were handled this way, can you imagine the crowds and human rights activists that would already have set up camp?
I saw the full video tonight on NBC at 10pm...she was asked many time to show her license and did not, and actually told him no, and then "wait a minute", but I think where she is not going to win this is where she was in the police car and denied everything she did, when according to video, she did....look it up...I think she felt because she "knew" some big people in town she would get out of it.
It is a "bladder infection", if she really has one! 5 minutes would not kill her.....and I am NOT sure that's really a "medical condition!"
He tried to be reasonable - she was NOT!!!
He did call for backup. I don't agree with him pulling her to the ground BUT.....he asked her to give him her DL and she said, "I'll give it to you in a minute!" and then would not get out of her vehicle when asked, REPEATEDLY, and then flat out tells him "NO!"
If she is suffering from a medical condition that is preventing her from following directions maybe she shouldn't be driving. Maybe she should be in a nursing home. If she was doing it to try to prove a point then she deserved what she got.

I tend to sympathize with the civilian in these cases but this time the police officer did everything right.

Just give him the license. Say I going to bathroom, follow me.. Duh
There was nothing dear or sweet about that lady.
She got what she deserved..
She asked for every bit of what happened. Just give him the license.
I think she is from Runaway Bay. Thinks she is above the law or it shouldn't apply to her.
Cop was right. She was a mean old lady who wouldn't follow directions.
Just display it, but not hand it to him...problem solved

She could have done the right thing and chose not to. That will get you pulled out of your car.
Jack booted fascist thug. He should kill himself.

He should have tazed her. She resisted. I will agree, she didn't want a ticket. That is where the I need to pee excuse came in.
He should have tazed her. That would have made her pee.

If you fail at everything else.....

She deserves the ticket!

I guess she should have used the facilities at the church before she left. She is an old biddie who was trying to get out of the ticket.
